Blessed be, everyone. Not certain if this topic has been opened before, but just wanted to ask-- what stars can you see from where you're living? With the naked eye, mind-- countless stars may be seen with the aid of extreme telescopes. Just the basics, and maybe we can tell each other what stars they are, because I, for one, am absolutely clueless about the skies above me.
Okay. That was lame. That was absolutely lame. But the gist is, list the stars you see above you and try to find their names, whether with the aid of others or not. Sorry if I sound like a bossy old broad. ;)

I usually am able to make out this really, really vague sight of three stars in a perfect row. Since I am really too lazy and simple-minded to try and dissect what astrology books I can afford :), could someone put a name to them for me?

You may be seeing the "belt" of the constellation Orion...that's the most visible one from where I live too. I was up in Massa. recently and was amazed by how much brighter the stars seem to be up there! Must be a good bit of smog and fog down here in Pittsburgh...I'm lucky if I can see the Moon most nights!

I'm luckier. :) Despite all the :smoking: and cars and all the other pollutions we Singaporeans are up to, the sky still remains pretty clear. Hm... belt of Orion... thanx, Kadynas! :bigredgri:

I see Orion's Belt...the Big and Little Dipper....
Has anybody noticed 3 dots in the sky beside Orion's Belt that looks like Orion's Belt but only smaller?

Honestly, I suppose those three small dots might be what you're referring to... don't think I can see Orion's belt from Singapore when I can't even see Orion... hey, on a good night i probably see a grand total of twenty stars. oh well. Between Kadynas and white_draco...
:bigredgri: Cya!

Orion is the most visible this time of year. There is also this 1 thing..i dunno what in the heck it is..but its a very very small cluster of stars, in the shape of a dipper. They are dinky..barely can find them. The big dipper is another one thats around and out a lot around here.

If you can't get outside to look at the stars or have a curiosity about a certain constellation or star cluster, have a look at Aaron Barnett's site and program:

Okay. Thanks people! MidnightSun, you nearly gave me a heart attack... :) I thought you were this long-lost once-met Wiccan acquaintance... sigh... same name (MidnightSun), though.

hehe... Life Savers! I know I'm being weird. Hey, it's part of my inborn nature-- took an aptitude quiz and it came out "Wacky". Whoa. Anyone know the diff. between ylang-ylang and ylang top? and how do you pronounce the darn word anyway? :o
