Does anyone do morning rituals that they'd be willing to share? I do my prayers at night but am looking for a morning ritual to bring a little spirituality into my mornings, instead of the grunting and groaning and complaining I usually do. ;) So I'm out looking for ideas.

I sing. Just a silly little song I made up for one of the Mysterious Ones I'm in relationship with. I sing it to 'em in my car on the way to work. Gets my spiritual juices flowing, gets me moving my body in a different way, and I find, personally, that one little song can brighten an entire morning!

I like the singing idea.

Well I know of plenty from many different faiths.

There is meditating right after you wake up. Buddhists do this.

There is some Hindu Prayers and mantras.
The Gayatri Mantra is one. http://www.eaglespace.com/gayatri.html It's on of the most important mantras, I believe. The link explains the meaning of it.
I say many Hindu Prayers, they're great.
Here is the Asato Maa: http://www.saibaba.uwaterloo.ca/Asato_Maa_Prayer.html

There are Egyptian (Kemetic) hymns to the Morning sun: http://www.galileolibrary.com/history/history_page_7.htm

Here is a Pagan Morning Salutation I found:
http://www.nmrising.com/public/580.htm <-- just scroll down a little.
And one here: http://www.angelfire.com/realm2/amethystbt/devotionsmorningprayers.html

I could go on and on...

Other things that come to mind.
*Maybe make a list of things you want to accomplish, do, finish, etc and every morning when you wake up, go to that list and make that your goal of the day-- wheather it be cleaning your house or being friendly.

*I sometimes write a short poem-- Haiku form works best-- about my outlook and things I see. So like the sun hitting the trees, or birds singing. I have over 1,500 haiku and I find them addictive! I love'em...if you couldn't tell ;).
[For more info about Haiku: http://www.nhi.clara.net/gepm002.htm
There are also 3-5-3 ones and other forms, as long as it's 3 lines and under 17 syllables]

*Journaling. If you don't have much time maybe only a short paragraph. You could even have a journal for Morning and Night. Morning for beginnings and Night for the outcome. That way you can see how the day progressed and what you did and learned and things.

Well my morning ritual is "thank gods, done with work, bed/sleep time" but that doesn't help much, does it? :P

More seriously... what do you do in the morning as is? (Easier to not part from your routine too much.) What blessings could you seek in the brushing of teeth.... "blessed be my mouth..."... or clean your ears or wash your face or shower or etc.

Do you eat? Celebrate the consumption of the energy to see you through the day. Ponder the mysteries of the cheerio or coco-puff or whatever.

Etc.

You don't want something that takes too much setup/clean up unless you also can really dedicate that time to it. But just taking a few minutes to just try to experience morning is good... look out the door at the trees or sky and just enjoy them. Or really enjoy your orange juice.

And then once you figure out what it is you want to do with it, write bad short poetry or prose to drag whatever divinity listening to you out of bed too... misery loves company ;)

That was funny. Thank You. :yayah:

I really enjoy meditation in the morning, I also ground and center myself. It kinda gets me ready for anything the day decided to throw at me. If you don't want to do anything like that you could always try putting on some soft music and burning some incense and just apriciate what the Goddess has given and count the blessings in your life.

when i get up, in the morning to water the plants, I greet the earth, sun, winds etc. I know it's not a ritual but. I also write in my dream journal, or pull out a morning rune. If I have the time before anyone wakes up, I might meditate.

Very, very nice ideas folks :D I hope that topic will grow :)
If I have more time, I draw a daily rune or create a shield (sometimes I just feel that special protection will be needed during the day), sometimes I light a candle and pray, sometimes just "pentagram" myself (in a way described in "Pagan salutation"). I don't like meditating in the morning, because I'm often too sleepy to do it.
My only day off work is Sunday, so I make the most out of it: wake up at dawn and go for a walk in the forest, in the morning mist... awwwww... :abanana:

I wake up and greet the morning. I give thanks for a peaceful nights sleep. I give thanks for the blessings that I have like my job, my house. friends and loved ones. And I ask to see the beauty in the world and the good in people and that they see those things in me. And that I have a strong will to stand up for what I belive in. Sometimes I light candles in honor of the elements and the God and Goddess.
I hope this is of some help

I *try* (for sometimes I'm just too rushed or sleepy to remember) to say a morning devotional while in the shower because that is something I do every morning and it's a sacred time for me. It's dark or dim and the warm water is coursing over me, getting my body ready for the day. I took the devotional from Sylvan's The Circle Within . It goes like this:

Blessed Mother, Radiant Father
I open my heart to your love and wisdom
Help me to see you, hear your voice, feel your hands
Help me to see you all around me
And help me to see [the beauty] within myself

(It originally said "Help me to see You within myself" but I changed the last bit, it worked for me better)

Morning Rituals:

When I first get up (at 5:30 am X[ I am WAY to groggy to do anything except make DH's coffee and breakfast. But later as I wake up I streach and say a morning blessing "Blessed Be this morning that opens to a new day, May I find new opportunities to learn, grow and help" and do a little yoga Sun Salutation. Then I take a shower and do a little purification ritual "Water washing over me, so again my soul be clean" said 3 times while standing under the water.

Thats about it, just little simple things I try to do every day. If I have time I may medtate at my altar, do more yoga etc...

Morning rituals:

I like to perform the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) every morning, though I don't always have time to. It helps wake me up and afterwards, I feel incredible.

Well, a morning ritual I've always wished I could do more often is called "racing the sun". Basically, you get up, get some clothes on...and dash outside. Either to run to a hill or to sit and wait for the sun's rise.
It's kindof simple, it's to appreciate the radiant life giving energy of the sun. To start your day with the natural awe and wonder, of our world.

I also enjoy meditations and praises in the morning. I sing or pray occasionally too.

Problem is, my sleeping hours change alot. I wish I could do more morning spiritual things, but often sleep or family politics (which never seems to end), or even work (which I'm always rushed to prepare for) takes precidence. Ah, someday. *really looking forward to that someday*

I have a cup of green tea (or coffee, or herbal infusion) either in front of a window or outside, breathing and appreciating the world around me for a few minutes.

I dont have a specific Ritual in the Morning..but i do have to go outside early, usually, in my dressing gown and wellies..to feed Hens and get up My Rabbit Willow. I try to just stop and smell the earth and air, and listen to the Birds, see who is visiting the feeders, and just feel gratefull and glad to be where i am in life. Then, occasionally i take time to light a candle somewhere..or if i feel moved to, i write something down. I love my early morning in the garden.

I start with a hymn to Hestia at her shrine, and then go to all of my shrines and say good morning to the gods they belong to.
If I'm running really really late, I'll just blow a kiss to each god and hurry to wherever I need to be. :D

In the morning, I usually do an LBRP, LBRH, do a quick invocation of whatever planetary force is ruling the day, then run out the door. I say morning Resh in the car since I drive directly into the sun. :P

In the evening I put on all the funny clothes and do a miniature Thelemic mass I composed. Then another LBRP and LBRH.

And sometime between those, I have a chat with Meadb. :)

When I was a teen, I would always do this before leaving my room for the day...

I had a few stones that I would carry with me every day, which were in a circle on my dresser with my incense, cauldrons, etc.

I'd pick up the stone I was taking with me, "cross" myself in the shape of a pentacle (forehead, left breast, right shoulder, left shoulder, right breast, forehead) then bring the stone into a prayer position while saying a devotional that I can't for the life of me remember. I got it off a Geocities site when I was fourteen... I'm sure it's still printed off in a binder somewhere.

Then I would put the stone in my pocket and go about my day.

Recently, on occasion, I've done the same thing without the devotional, and with the added touch of burning sage during. It's a nice way to slow down and center, even if for a moment.

Immediately after I wake up in the morning, I light some incense, usually Nag Champa, and meditate for about 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, I say a prayer.

When I get up and after I've had my first cup of coffee I go do my daily prayers...
First I get a tea lite then which ever incense is jumpimg up into my hand that day.
I ask Lady Isis to bless the candle so it will carry my wishes, hopes and dreams to her, then to bless the incense so that it's scent may please her.
I have two daily prayers I say, one to wake Isis up and be ready for the new day. The other is so I may feel the power flow thru me from Her.
I let the incense burn out on it's own but not always letting the candle burn un-attented.

It's not always right at the beginning of morning because I am selfish and forget who I owe so much to. But if I'm in the right mindset I like to start my day just talking to my Father and Mother.

Something like such...

"Dear Father Eros and Mother Persephone,

I thank you for the day you've given me and all I might enjoy. It's thanks to you that I have this new batch of experiences waiting and I'm so glad to have you both with me while I go through them.

Forever and always, as your son I thank you."

It changes each time I say it and of course it's more of the idea of just talking to them each morning rather than what you exactly choose to say.

I sometimes sing a bit too (as mentioned above) but then I'm known to break into song all day long so it's not something I reserve just for the early hours.

You might also just want to concentrate on "What would XX like me to do for them in the mornings?" and see what sorts of ideas pop into your head. You might be surprised at how many things you can come up with that really suit you and your deities.

I don't have any particular morning rituals that I do, but, I do want to start some, like, I intend on trying to do some kind of Yoga and meditation in the morning, maybe some kind of prayer or affirmation, something to just get the day off to a good start.

Sweet! Thanks for the sources.
However, numbers 1 & 3 are dead or something, and I scrolled all te way down on number 2 and didnt see it . . .great site though!!! Thanks!

Ooh, will try!! I like the idea, also of .."to see (divinity) within myself" . .It makes it kinda like the original one, but I just like the sound and feel of it better.

Very nice. I'd like to learn that hymn!!! Spit it out!!

Currently, I get up and shake out a bit, and do some meridian tapping and hara tapping (to get the blood and ki flowing), then do some meditative bows, and if I have time do 30mins of yoga (if not, Ill do 5 mins of 2-3 poses) and consult my oracle for some advice on my day to come , but now Im gonna have to change it up so I can use some of the things mentioned here!!!
