^^; LOL so it's been done before. But what (if any) music do you use during meditation? Do you meditate? Or just dance? ^_~
I know that for me, I usually use new-agey stuffs. Unless I'm dancing, during which I'll listen to several up-beat almost-techno but not really techno songs. ^^; tis very good for getting a happy rhythem going!

Well, when I meditate I usually use relaxing nature sounds... I find that it works best for me as it isn't enough to break my focus or the atmosphere itself, rather make me more comfortable and block out any outside noise.

When I meditate I usually don't listen to music. I may use a mantra but usually complete silence. I like quiet. It usually stays quiet until my dog comes down and bothers me. :boing:

This is a hard one for me! I voted for "nature-y sounds" as I think that is what I'd like to listen to if I meditated often enough! :)
There are a few key pieces of music I like to listen to for certain purposes. An example: There is a piece of music by Moby that I use to calm me down and help me feel safe. I listened to it every night to help me sleep for about six months after a good friend of mine was raped and stalked by a monster (i.e. less than human). Now, all I need to do is to think of the first few notes of the piece in my head and I'm instantly taken to a place where I feel safe. The effect is not as strong as it used to be, but at one time it was almost as if the first few notes could put me instantly into a trance-like state.
Very powerful, music is!

I find goa and trance can be good for meditation; but I seem to be doing a lot of chanting lately, although background music, candles, and incense really help set the mood inside

Depending on what type of meditation I am doing I use different types of music, or none at all. If it is a meditation that needs my concentration (like some sort of visualization) I don't use music since that usually seems to disturb me. But if it is some sort of relaxing meditation I like to use music, mostly pagan stuff but sometimes other stuff. :)

I like nature sounds myself, but right now I'm using the 3 Musketeers soundtrack (cuz they're all instrumental except the first song).. Usually if I listen to music with lyrics I'll start to recite the lyrics in my head while I'm listening to them.. :)

I don't listen to music because my mind will latch onto the different parts and analyze it. Probably because I was raised with music and musical instruments from as long ago as I can remeber. I could block it out and meditate, but why play the music if I am not going to hear it?

Depends what the meditation is about. From Enya to Rammstein to nature music from Exile to 90's dance music or techno (matrix sdtk and gone in 60 seconds sdtk's come to mind).

I usually don't listen to music when I meditate. Although, when I simply need to clear my mind while working around the house or doing crafts I like to listen to nature sounds. It helps to keep me focused on the task at hand.

I think my answer in the last one was different. But I'm still having trouble with the whole meditation thing. I know, time wise, yes, i'm having trouble reminding, or just making myself sit down and do it. Then when I start, I sometimes have trouble quieting my mind.
Anyone got any suggestions???

hmm. . . . when I first started meditating, I'd do it when nobody else was in the house. I would set up a bunch of candles (in safe places) and lay down on my back on the floor, just sprawling my arms and legs out, just feeling like I'd melt right through the earth.
Sometimes just that is enough. Try to just focus on melting. I know it sounds silly but melt. I wrote down in another thread a good bedtime ritual thingie. . . works good for meditation, too. I'll find it for you ^_^

have the child lie comfortably, preferably on their back. Light some favourite insence or put on some soft relaxing (prefferably instrumental or new-agey) music, if you like. It's not required. Do anything that'll make the child feel secure and comfortable.
Have them breathe slowly and deeply, perhaps do it along with them. Have the lights low, or whatever is most comforable for you and your child.
Starting with their toes, follow this example:
"you feel a warm, tingly feeling in your toes. . . they feel so heavy. . . and it moves slowly up your feet. . . . warm and tingly, so heavy.. . . and up your legs. . . up past your ankles. . . so heavy and warm and tingly. . . up past your calf. . . . up to your knees. . . . your whole leg feels so heavy. . . up past your thighs. . . . up to your hips. . . . and you feel so relaxed and heavy, it feels so nice. . . and up your waist. . . ." etc. You go up the body to the top of the torso, then down the arms and back up, then up the neck, then to the tip of the head. It's a very relaxing thing. And if you like, you can perhaps use your hands over them to illustrate it, and if you wish to, use a little energy work at the same time. But you don't need to do that.
At any rate, the technique is very relaxing, I've even knocked out my boyfriend with it hehe. It will help have a very peaceful rest.
hehe try adapting it to you hehe

Aah, I still do the candles, lying down on my back thingie...Except I do it on my bed (I wish I had more space on my floor to spread out!!) all I gotta do is make sure I don't get too relaxed or else I might fall asleep! :D

I like to meditae to drums, Middle Eastern Dance music, Enya or Gabrielle Roth. I like to let my mind foat upon the music...very relaxing for me. If I want to go deep, drums or Native American flute is good. Sometimes I just follow my breath.
I use music cause following music can help shut up the inner dialouge without putting me to sleep. When I first started meditating, as soon as I quieted my mind I'd fall asleep. That used to upset me. Now if I fall asleep, No problem, I figure I must need the sleep.

I'm a musican so my mind is always going over music in my head. It is kinda strange what I would listen to and not listen to during Mediation.
Vocals- Big no no, I find myself singing along.... and then I am not really centered
Easy Guitar- Can't do that either.... cause I find myself wanting to learn how to play it
I like allot of celtic stuff...... but during Ritual, I made up a CD of my own that has allot of "Moving Breath" on it.

I like alot of different stuff for meditation.
Usually some by Godsmack (Voodoo, Someone in London etc)
a few songs by Soundgarden (head down, fourth of july etc)
and alot of Radiohead (Idioteque. Climbing up the walls etc)
i dont have any special music for meditation, just what i normally
listen to, but I pick the really intense songs, or the slow relaxing songs depending on my mood.

May sound weird and even a little creepy but I meditate to my heart beat breathing and the heart rates and breathing of those around me. When alone I do a beautiful meditation with the Earth Heart, and when in a group I do a meditation on their hearts, occasionally I can get them syncranized, it is weird, but interesting.

I don't think that sounds weird at all. Actually it sounds great. I will have to try that.

What a wonderful idea...thanks Radocs!!!
I haven't done much meditation because before moving it always seemed like I'd be interrupted by one of the roommates. And lately my mind has not wanted to quiet down. I'd been pondering using different music in order to enhance the meditation....and I think I'm going to try my gregorian chant CD.

I usually don't use music, it seems to disturb me. Sometimes, though I listen to nature sounds, especially when I'm not alone and I need to "turn off" other sounds.

as opposed to Zen, Music For Airports by Brian Eno has given me vivid visions of angels.
