Drawing patterns on dark fabric

I have been having trouble drawing patterns on certain kinds of dark fabric. I bought the softest chalk pencils I could find, but a lot of the fabrics I am trying to work with are still resistant, and some start to fray if I press down too hard. It is made harder by the fact that the patterns I am trying to trace are very small, and pressing down hard on stretchy fabric can completely alter the shape.

Is there anything that makes non-permenant marks on dark facric more easily than chalk?

Tailor's chalk would probably be best, found in most craft shops, fabric shops etc.
