So...I'm really excited about today. My boyfriend (aeternus lumen, here on MW) and I moved into our house about 3/4months ago and we love it. It's 3 bedrooms and we are the only two living here. Well, we aren't technically together anymore but we still lvie together and share the same room. We are close and are like best friends and we have spiritual bond as well. One of the smaller spare rooms, we decided when we first moved in, would be perfect as a ritual/spirituality room. It'd be a room specifically set aside for rituals, spells, celebrations, meditations, his reiki practices, etc. We never got to it b/c we have sooo much stuff and we haven't completely unpacked yet but we decided yesterday that we are gonna clear it all out...even if we just have to take the packed stuff from that room and put it into the other spare room full of packed things. I'm sure we will throw some of it up into the attic. Anyway, I'm just super excited about this possiblity and I've ALWAYS wanted a room such as this. I just can't wait. Any decorative ideas? I'm sure we'll put stuff up in there but all we have so far is our altars and we are thinking about making a 'household shrine' or whatever as well. Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas as to how to decorate. Maybe we could paint the four walls the four colors of the elements and decorate it with things from each of our paths? Thanks ahead of time guys.:fpraiseyo

I think its awesome that you have your own magic room. I have as well and I love it! As far as decorations go, I didn't paint the ways any different than the rest of the house, but you certainly may do so. I have my altar cloth that covers my altar so it brings some color to the room. It has a celtic pattern so it brings a little something extra. I have a book shelf in there and on the top of it I have a fancy scarf as a cloth and I put candles and my BOS on it....lots of little things, really....my collection of different stones are arranged everywhere, candles, of course, I have a stereo in my magic room so I have a small cd holder specifically for my meditation cd's. I have a cabinet for my herbs, candles, etc that my husband painted for me (he's an auto painter by trade). The big thing I"m going to do is make a large pentacle stained glass window as soon as I learn how to do stained glass. :flowers:

Awesome, congrats :D
I had a ritual room in our last house. It was painted a deep burgandy when we moved in. I bought a fall themed amy brown fairy poster from hot topic and framed it, I also got a few spice racks from goodwill, refinished them and put them up to hold oils and miss. vials of stuff. I bought two bookshelves at garage sales and put all of my pagan/mythology/philosophy books in them. I also stuck a big overstuffed chair covered with an offwhile crochet blanket to read in. I put in various statues and knick knacks I already had, added a shelf with pegs for my jewlery and as a little shrine. Finally, I bought an octagonal coffee table at goodwill for 5$ and painted it for an altar. Man it looked so cool and was so relaxing. I wish I would have taken a picture before we left. I think the whole thing cost me less than 60$ to do.

Congrats. I just LOVE having my own room. I can leave my alter set up and no one bothers me when I'm in there.

My it would be so nice to have a space like that. When our circle meets at my house we have to celebrate in my living room.
Do you have a dollar store in your area? Most of them have framed pictures for only a dollar or two apiece. I'd get four of them, one to represent each element, and hang them on the walls. You know, a ship or seashore scene for west, something firey or a desert scene for south, a sunrise for east, mountains or rocks for north.
If you have a color printer you can even find some great artwork online and print that off on photo paper and frame it. I have two awesome goddess paintings hanging above my computer that I found online and printed copies of. Have fun setting it all up and using your sacred space.

Yeah, actually there is a dollar store near me. Thanks for the ideas. I've also been thinking about finding pics online and printing them out and then framing them. :floating:

The house I just moved into has a spare room that I am going to convert into my ritual room...
My mother and I are both artistically inclined, so she is going to help me with the decorating.
I am going to make the whole room look like a forest clearing by painting the ceiling dark blue with stars, then I will paint large trees on the walls...
I also have a lot of art that I have created of fairies that I will hang on the walls...
It is so exciting, I can't wait to get it done!!! _witchball

In a room like that I would want to put up some of that mural type wallpaper, because they come in really beautiful forest scenes. I would get one, but, my altar room is a closet so it's kind of impractical, lol.

The only ones I have seen are online, but I am sure that any place that carries wallpaper will have them or at least be able to tell you who in the area does.
Most of them don't cover the whole wall, but man some of them are gorgeous.

I'm in the process of clearing out my extra room to make into a meditation\ritual room. I had one in my last had on in my last home and it was great! I'm in school right now for interior decorating so if you have any questions feel free to pm me. I have to turn in pictures of a room I've decorated so I can graduate and I'm going to use my ritual room for the project. Congradulations on your room!

Okay...sorry to disappoint you all but these pictures are so lame. That room is too small to try to fit in corners and take pics. haha. Also, I did this at night time, like an idiot and there is no light in there yet so I plugged in a lamp and sat it on the floor. I'll post the pics and explain. Sorry the pics are so hard to see.
(PICS IN ORDER)
#1 - Closet Shelf - I figured this could be a place to store jars, herbs, the like
#2 - Closet - this pic is a bit back and there is a ledge inside that will become a shrine
#3 - Closet Shrine - this is SUPPOSED to be a pic of the ledge on the inside
#4 - Corner - this shot is from inside the closet looking directly diagonal
#5 - Furnace - this little door holds the furnace Hmmm, how to use it?
Okay, well, that's all the pics I could fit so the next two will be on another post.

both of these pictures of of this little border thingy that goes over the door to the room from one corner to the other. I was thinking about paiting it differently from the other pars of the room or either putting a phrase or something in a magickal alphabet. any ideas?
EDITED TO ADD: I forgot to tell y'all that we've decided to dub it "The Temple"

You're so lucky. I'd love a room just for my ritual use, but unfortunately I live with my parents in a very small house. :( If it were me I would paint it lilac or purple and make or buy magical/pagan artwork to hang on the walls. But it's your room, so I would advise to just go with your instincts. :)

Yeah, I've got to be subtle about what I can do... I've kind up set up a mini-altar on top of a bookshelf and my dad knows about my candles and incense, but anything more than that I think would attract suspicion ... but there's been so very interesting suggestuions in this thread about what I could do ... things that I'd know the significance of but which wouldn't be obvious to evryone else. Thanks for some of the ideas!

I have some sucky news...we were getting things around and it was pretty nice and we used it a couple of times but someone just moved in with us a couple of days ago. She had to take over that room so we don't have a ritual room anymore. *sigh* I guess it was nice while it lasted.
