View Full Version : Are you giving your cat (or other pet) a Yule gift?

This was brought up in another thread, so I thought I'd start a new one.

If you have pets, do you give them Yule gifts? If so, what?

Since my cat Raven is on a special diet (he just had bladder stones removed) I can't give him those great little kitty treats anymore (you know, the ones that are the equivalent of junk food for cats). I will be giving him catnip toys. I may also get the lumber and carpe/sisal/other textured goodies and put together a kitty jungle gym for him.

Anyone else?

All family pets get an upgrade or refill for their current toys.

catnip ball gets new nip, new scratching post..
and the like

Well..usually, we only buy the "Top of the Line" Cat food (eukanuba, or Iams, or Science Diet) for our cats, and occasionally, give them Tuna (ok..it's more than occasionally...)..1 can to share between all four of them, as a treat. So..since they are SOOOOOOOO spoiled anyway...we are probably getting them new collars, new toys, and a can of "Fancy Feast" each, as well as the kitty junkfood treats.

Neah..our kitties aren't spoiled, a'tall.

I'm giving my cat some catnip toys. We get the dogs those rawhide bones every year.

Naw... She's pretty much spoiled (well..between my dad & I she is 8O).. So, probably just new cat nip in her toy mouse... Unless my bro gets his act together and makes her a house/scratching post at school in his woodwork class. :D

Our budgie just passed away last week so there's only the dog left. My son usually picks out special treats for them. This year, we're going to put out some seeds for the wild birds in Spanky's name. We also bake special doggie treats for the dog.

Of course they do! :D:D:D:

BK (Before kids) they got big gifts, new cat towers, beds, etc. Now Santa leaves some small toys and treats in their stockings. Last year, my favorite pet dog was a stuffed squeaky toy for my dog, Harley. It was a Cruella DeVil doll! And she loved it- trashed the thing. My warped sense of humor thought that was hysterical.

Wildchild- I used to bake cat treats for the kitties- mouse shaped cookies. Sadly, they never ate them LOL!

Keeley- we have a cat that has had bladder stones/surgeries too. Hugs from our specially fed ($$$) cat to yours. :D

:D The dogs all get stockings filled with toys and treats. The turtles will get extra food. The russian tortoise will probably get a zuchini. Mousie will get mouse (hamster) treats. The new Cockatiel named Twinks (yes, I did name it after Twink! ) will get a new bird toy. Bird, who is practically senile will get its favorite alfafa sprouts.I'll clean all the fish pools especially good for the goldfish. But for the life of me, I don't know what to do for the hermit crabs.:boing: :boing: :boing:

I've been growing a big pot of catnip, and I'll give that to my beautiful cat come Yule. I used to get her those toys on strings, but she's about 18 now and can't really use them as much as she'd like.

For my dog, probably a good chew toy or two.

They'll both get groomed.

Wildchild - my condolences about the bird. I absolutely adore budgies...

well the dogs get a giant bone that they get every year. the cats will get..... (checking to make sure the cats are not reading over my shoulder) 2 cans of sheba cat food a piece. The fish get a new air pump and a new air wand. The snakes get new heat pads and maybe a new cage for the red tail. (depends if I can scrape up the money this month)

hehe. They actually have painted shells in their aquarium,(hermits like to change their shells a lot), they seem to prefer natural shells. I swear. (holds up palm, honest Injun like)

I've had cats that don't like catnip.

Catnip is a relative to Marijuana, and it does about the same thing for kittys as does marijauna.. except it's more of an upper.

some cat's don't like the effect, just like some humans don't like marijuana. I try to avoid giving a lot of nip to my cats. It is after all a drug. You may want to just try having a cat plant.. find a shrub or plant that your cats just love to chew on has leaves to play with.. i've done that a few times.. it helps keep MY plants and herbs safe hehe.

We give our cats catnip once in a great while. But..oddly enough, one of our cats is a very highly stressed cat (he's very territorial, and doesn't like the other cats). The vet reccomended we give him catnip every once in a while, to help with his nerves.

The kitties will be getting a new house this year. Assuming the mortgage company and the lawyers finish farting around in time. I don't think the kitties will really appreciate it, but that's what they're getting.

They will probably also get a tuna or salmon treat, some catnip, a new insert for their cardboard scratching toy, and a change in diet. I've been reading about the truly atrocious things that are in commercial cat food, plus they're all getting fat, so I'm going to be putting them on homemade carnivore foods. I hope it works!

Heh, I always thought catnip was a member of the mint family. Does that mean that mint and mary-j are related? (Showing my plant ignorance here).

I've seen catnip addicts. I'm lucky in that Raven self-regulates. He'll go gung-ho on the catnip for a while then leave it alone. Kinda like me with my occasional tequila binge:bubbles:.

I've also heard that some cats just don't react to catnip. They'll sniff at it and it is like "yeah, and you gave me this mess of weeds because?" I always refer to it as the cat not having the 'catnip gene'.:D
