View Full Version : Hesio?

In a dream last night, I was writing down something that, as best I can remember, was along the lines of 'hesiotheosis.'
It was supposed to be some sort of charm or talisman for protection from a goddess named 'Hesio.'
Now, I'm not sure about the spelling, as it's usually hard for me to read things in dreams. The spelling could have been much different, but that was the general pronunciation of it.
What is bothering me is that I have heard the word some place and cannot now place where I've heard it.
Anyone have any idea what it could be? Or other words that sound something like Hesio?
edit to add: in the dream, I want to think there was more to the word than hesiotheosis, and the break down of the words was something to do with protection from gods, hence theo, and I want to think that hesio meant protection or something along those lines.
(in the dream, i was preparing to combat some weird guy in my grandparents' yard)

Hmm..apparently, theosis means roughly 'to become god.'
What a strange twist. Perhaps this should be moved to the dreams forum? (sorry for putting it not there in the first place)

Only reference to hesio I can find is a Greek poet called Hesiod: this fella http://hesiod.iqnaut.net/
otherwise, the only other reference to hesio i can find all sorts of stuff about esperanto.

Yeah, I looked into Hesiod as his name was immediately familiar to me. Curiouser and curiouser..

Another possibility would be the prefix 'histio' which means..body tissue, or so. In the way my mind works, it's highly likely I wrote 'histiotheosis' which could translate through my thought process to 'the flesh becomes god,' which would make sense with it being to protect me from physical harm in a fight.

I just know of Hestia, which is sort of similar. And when I searched for "Hesio Goddess" the search engine corrected it to Hestia.
....so that could be a possiblity.
Oh and there is also: Hesiod, the poet
Greek poet. The major epics ascribed to him are Works and Days, a valuable account of ancient rural life, and Theogony, a description of the gods and the beginning of the world.

Last summer I spent tons of time reading about her, she's my favorite of the Greek Goddesses.
I also sent tons of time reading about Vesta and the Vestal Virgins [I even started a short story about them, heh.]
Hestia also means "Hearth" so it's possible that in your dream that was the message being communicated...?

Well, I'm not sure if this'll fit at all into your dream or word, but there is the Greek God Helios, God of the Sun.
Oh, this place mentions Athena (Minerva, Pallas, &c.) near to "Hesio": http://www.uni-mannheim.de/mateo/camena/schur1/books/schurtzfleischpoemata_12.html
I started switching letters around. I got info on the Sohei: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sohei
That's about it. Good luck.
Okay, no, just kidding. Here are a few other ideas...
Hermes had various epiphets (as many deities seem to have), and a couple are Maiados Huios – Son of Maia and Dais Hetairos – Comrade of the Feast (Meat).
I'm also going out on a limb and suggesting Hermione (daughter of Helen and Menelaus), Hero (a priestess of Aphrodite in Sestos), and Herodas or Herondas (Greek writer of mimes).
Since Hesiod has been mentioned, I'll also mention Homer and Horace, even if they're not as close. Ovid also wrote poems called the Heroides.
...I'm going to edit this post like no tomorrow. Anyway, I found a few more things...
I came up with the following words: hedonist, heliocentric (from Helios, of course, which is not far off), and heresy. I just saw "hermaphrodite", which isn't too near "hesio", but it is Greek (as is Helios, again).
I can't believe I forgot Hesperus, the evening star (Lucifer in the morning)! There's also Hesperia (Italy; Spain) and the Hesperides (keepers of a garden in the far West, though I'm not sure who they all are...).
In any case, it seems pretty Greek, so I'd go with the likes of Helios and the poet Hesiod.

Hmm..interesting. I think I looked into Helios earlier today when trying to figure it out.
It definitely looks/sounds Greek - but, given that it was a dream, I probably just thought up something Greek sounding because I've been looking into Greek mythology lately. Kind of like adding 'us' on words to make it sound Latin.
Instead of trying to find other spellings/meanings for the word, I thought more about what actually took place in the dream, and how it applied to my life. As could be noted from my thread in Gods and Goddesses, I've been looking into deities of Protection the past few days. It's basically consumed my thoughts.
So, if the word I wrote was simply 'Hesiotheosis,' that could be (in a butchering way) translated as 'Hesio becomes divine.'
I've never been one for 'making up' deities, though I do believe that faith in a deity, ancient or made up, brings it into being. That could have been playing out in my dream - I needed a Goddess of Protection then and there, and did not have time to find one so I made my own - Hesio - by writing 'Hesiotheosis.'
It's a stretch, but not nearly as far as 'histiotheosis' or anything else I've considered.
In fact, if I knew what the word theosis meant last night (i just learned about it today, reading up from this dream), I'd say that's probably what I was meaning to say in the dream.

Reading up on Greek legend can do that. :)
Perhaps you should wait for another dream or vision or other happening in order to figure out this mystery?

Perhaps. Or perhaps it was just a dream influenced by my recent musings :)
Sometimes I read too much into my dreams.
