ok i really dont know where to post this cos its quite random...
this always happens i find the sie after i post!!! http://www.bezoarstones.com/index.htm
a couple of years ago i was searching for stones that represented certain animals and found a site that clamed to sell stones that were formed inside animals i cant remember what the stones were called or what the site was...
but basically i would like to know the reason why stones from animals are... er... extracted... (or if they were just lying) because they were colourful like gemstones... and of corse there were dragon and unicorn ones aswell...
have you ever seen a site like it or anything?
thanx...
(btw it wasnt to do with oriental medicen)

It was a mediaeval belief that you could extract stones from certain animals, and that they had magickal properties. Not a bit of fact to it, really, other than some birds carry stones in their gizzards or crops.
They're just trying to sell you something...their stones look like agates in various levels of polish, and glass.

dont worry about finding stones that represent different animals
instead go buy a bag of inexpensive river rocks, some paint and
paint the animals on the stones you want them to represent, then
work with them in that way,its just as good.
its a pracitce ive been doing for awhile now,and i promise that if
you work with it,it will work with you.

Bezoars are real. Gross, but real. They are found in humans and other animals.
This is the link to Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bezoar)

Yes bezoar are real and usually are formed in the gut after ingestion of something like hair or persimon. Ox bezoar is used in Chinese medicine medicinally.
Animal pearls are primary used and regarded as sacred by vedic shaman, who may hunt the animal, I believe, or collect bezoar specimens from animal residences. Some of the vedic pearls are of unknown origin and have been passed down through generations of shaman. I was asked recently to perform a zoological analysis of these specimens to determine origin and characterization and initially agreed, though I believe I will not be continuing with this project due to my current circumstances. There is at this moment competition between the group who I was corresponding with and another group in asian to hurry up and publish a book on this topic in English. The group I was speaking with will have video documentation of bezoar collection by shaman in India, and their stone collection will be on a US tour, which I can keep you up to date with. Sorry no unicorn or dragon pearls.

Are we talking naturally occuring stones from the bladders. Ah then yes they are real. The site made it all sound a bit to fantastic with dragon stones. Besides dragons do not get gall stones. They have a fat free diet.
But humans do and so do other mammals. I must sleep off the medicine the Dr. gave me. Been in a purple cloudy haze all day. I hate the feeling.

No these are not stones from bladders, neither gall stones nor kidney stones. Bezoar are formed in the gut. For more information see:

Not all of the stones in the animal pearls link are bezoar. The bamboo pearls are obviously not bezoar as plants do not have a gut. The bamboo pearls reputedly grow only near monestaris near pious monks. Sounds strange.
The cobra pearls are very unique in color and reflective properties apparently. I suggested to them to take a look at them under black light to see what is the result.

very interesting thread indeed. never heard of those stones - at least not in lapidary business terms
well, if anyone wants to buy them and spend that fortune on them,
but strange anyway

I very much agree with mtpathy.
what a very good idea, to paint your own stones !
here are other ideas too: Try looking for stones with patterns and inclusions: agates for example but other stones also. sometimes they form an animal. powerful medicine!
or go the easy way, and get a stone carved animal.
hehehe for 2000 USD you can get quite a collection of wonderful stone animals, i would say :alol:
