Why do some signs correspond with the elements that they do?For example Scorpio is a water sign, but being from the desert, One would think that it would be a fire sign. Aquarius (yay thats me!) Is air, but with the name and the symbol, shouldn't it be under water.

I have often wondered the same thing! Being an Aquarius, I know that my sign is air, yet Aquarians are referred to as "water babies." Makes no sense!

You'd think that the "Water Bearer" would be a water sign right? Nope. Welcome to the wide and weird world of astrology! :durrrr:
The signs gets their names and symbols from the mythology surrounding them. There are varying reasons I've heard for each, but it all goes back to the ancient cultures that created today's zodiac. For them, in the time of the year when the sun was in Aquarius (Janury-February) it was the rainy season, so the sign became known as the water-bearer. But why an air sign then? Astrologers look to what people who have a lot of Aquarius energy in theri chart are like. They are cool, unemotional, very mental, intellectual - quite unlike Water energy.
For Scorpio it can be either a Scorpion or an Eagle, depending on the culture. As mentioned above, Scopio folk are mysterious, deep and sensual, concerned often with death, the occult or anything hidden and mysterious - that's much more Water than Air, wouldn't you say?
So there is no *logical* reason for the symbols, but we accept as the way it is.

I've always seen the water bearer symbol kinda other than water. Because they pour the water...but the water is never really part of them it's in a jug removed from them. I've also also seen a human as a mental creature...so the air makes sense to me. Also the waves I see as a electrical waves.

Hmm, I never thought of it like that.
