Here's my latest oil-painting. It depicts the ancient sea goddess Nehalennia who was worshipped mainly in the Netherlands. I'm looking forward to hearing your comments!

I love this piece. I'm very intrigued by her body design...especially her navel and breasts. I'm curious to know the symbolism.

Thanks for your comment! I'll explain the symbolism for you. Nehalennia was a sea and fertility goddess. Her navel and breasts are connected and the breasts are one with the sea: forming a circle of re-birth. Her legs are sperm cells (also fertilty), her arms are sea snakes (symbol of the sea) and the snakes are holding her head like an egg (fertility). The arms also become one with the sea. This symbolism was my own idea, because very little is know about this goddess. I hope this clears it up a little!
