hello all

i need to do a serious banishing - bad luck, negativity, stagnation, the works....

i was wondering which Deity i should invoke to do this best. i was thinking Kali, and one of my friends suggested Durga- but she is more terrible than Kali, so i don't know .....

any thoughts?

Kali is not really a positive deity, not one I'd (personally) use to banish bad luck or negativity, but maybe a nasty person. You might instead choose a more positive deity for strength and movement in this time - ie. Freya or Isis..

thanks for the reply.

the only reason i was thinking Kali, is because she is associated (to me) with immediate change in situations, and also no "nice-nice" but rather action action action.

i have never really worked with either Freya or Isis, so i wouldn't know quite where to start.

i don't really want to supplicate or beg - i want action and i want it now!!! (better be careful what i ask for!!)

If you are just looking for immediate change I'd suggest the deity Changing Woman . She seems pretty neutral, neither too "negative" to (probably) mess up, nor too "positive" for a banishing job...

Kali's likely to decide that you should end stagnation by losing your job and your boyfriend and being kicked out of your house so you have to "move" to find all new ones, even if it means getting you fired and leaving you broke to do it. If you really want immediate change and don't care how it happens or the consequences she's ok, but otherwise...

Changing Woman is also known as Estsanatlehi

And as always use your favourite search engine.

thanks for the info! :)

i have an idea that Kali's been dabbling in my life already! Last week we received notice to move out of our house by the end of December, and my husband had a car accident - he was not hurt, thankfully, but the car's going to cost a whole whack of money to fix before we can even get it back on the road!

suppose it could be worse :eyebrow:

Myst...are you basing this off your own experiences with Kali, or with the traditional mythology behind her? Pure curiousity here...:) Like if someone needs help finding a deep and true everlasting love type thing, should one avoid asking Aphrodite's help because she was usually seen as fickle?

Kali is not really a positive deity...

With all do respect, how can you call a deity "positive" or negative"? I feel that comments like that limit the gods and possibly disrespect who They are. Our vocabulary is limitied in our descriptions of Them, but "positive" and "negative". I'm sorry if I sound like I'm attacking you, Myst.

Hehe, I would chose Psyche for that sort myself  to end bad luck...I would callon Benten, the Japanese goddess associated with luck. Maybe even Fortuna the Roman goddess of fate, change, and luck.

I wouldn't let that put you off about her. Granted, I am bias given she is one of my patrons, but Aphrodite in my view and experiences has always been about attraction. It's up to you to be specific in what you wish to attract, however, or she may find a bit of humor in giving you your poorly phrased desire.

If you're looking to strengthen something or form a concrete bond, such a long term relationship you need attraction to get it going (if you have no one), but I would go to Hera for tightening cord that binds you two.

As for banishing, I myself would have to go with Hecate, Oya, or Amaterasu. Hecate is wildly know and debated about so I won't get into her here. Oya being the African goddess of winds and storms, and the winds can do bring change. Amatersau is the japanese Shinto goddess of the sun, so any change she brought would be radiant and very constructive as opposed to Kali who I feel represents destruction and tearing down barriers without caution or hesitation, so you must be careful or she could banish, remove, and destroy the wrong things.

I work with Durga, and yeah, she can be scary, but I don't find her to be more terrible than Kali. She is very protective, and I find that she is more about restoring correct order rather than rampant destruction, which I tend to associate with Kali.

Definitely do a lot of research on whichever deity you think you would like to invoke for your banishing. You might also want to consider doing a meditation to meet said deity to ask them if they'd like to participate and to get a better sense of their nature.

I've never really understood the differenece between the two. Kali and Durga just seem to similar to me, to actually be 2 seperate goddesses. If you could explain the differences, it would be greatly apprieciated :)

Hecate's awesome too :)

I was going to say the same thing.I haven't worked with Hecate but I read that she is appropriate for banishing negative energy and bringing good luck.
