So, has anyone ever studied or tried using the teacup method for divination.
I have only heard of it, but have never read much about it.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet.... I'm still trying to figure out my tarot cards... I think I would like to try a black mirror or cauldron scrying next.

Well, I am Ellegon Draconus, call me Elle if it turns your crank, Jim if ya wanna be more formal. I have been into the 'craft' for most of my life...I researched my family tree and found some interesting ancestors. It seems that on my fathers side there is a history of witchcraft dating back at least 27 generations. None of my immediate family practices, but my grandparents had artifacts in their possession, including a circular marble coffee table with a big black pentagram in the center...guess what I use for my altar? I am currently 45 years old and am a new grandpa...My daughter just gave birth to a boy...Stone James. I am an ecclectic witch that leans toward the Norse pantheon, but family heritage dictates the Teutonic influence in my practice. I am a student of and teacher of the runic tradition in particular...the term student applies above all, as there is never enough knowledge avilable to satiate my drive toward wisdom. I am single...woohoo...and am always up for new contacts...(gratuitous plug here). The name Ellegon comes from a series of novels written by Joel Rosenberg. Guardians of the Flame is the series title. Ellegon was a dragon locked in the sewers to burn waste and garbage. He was freed by a human warrior named Karl Cullinane and they became life-long companions. And, there so ends the drivel, if ya wanna know more, visit my website or email me...any questions????

Would tea leaf reading be similar to scrying, perhaps the leaves form shapes like visions one would get in crystal gazing?

I only know what I've read about tea leaf reading but I do know they are similiar to crystal balls but provide you with more of a map so to speak. From what I gather you look at the leafs in the bottom of the cup kind of like the candle burned out in your cauldron when a spell is complete. You are looking for pictures or shapes to work with and you use your psychic mind from there to work up a reading.
Sorry if I confused anyone...I'm beginning to confuse myself here. But then again I'm blond so I must fall into some of those jokes on the just talk board!!!

Greetings!
I have done tea readings but it doesn't work for anyone else...don't know why. But the key is to consider a question while drinking the tea and when you are almost finished, sit the cup down and stir with your finger three times and let settle for 15 min. when you look into the cup your answer should be there. But i notice that this doesn't work always either, i have gotten some amazing results but then again it only works for me.

What exactly does one see in the cup, do the leaves form a certain shape?

yes, shapes, letters, symbols, things of that nature and it serves as an answer to a question you were thinking before making the tea.
your concentration on the question gives the answer in such a way that it is immediatly understood, it's not like the runes that can have multiple answers depending on what is needed,(no offense) with this when you look into the cup you have a symbol, letter or shape that tells you exactly what you need to know.

Depending on the situation or question at hand, the runes too can have a specific meaning...just a thought to let all know...

Yes i can agree with that, but shouldn't the question be simple in nature? I find that whenever i cast runes the answers seem to cross other probibilities maybe because i'm looking for something simple in something complicated...enlighten me.

Adrian,
In answer to your question, I have found that drawing a single rune for a specific question oftentimes gives a more precise and/or concise answer. Sometimes, however, a simple answer is not available. Runic readings by their nature generally give us more of a path to follow for our answers rather than specifics. Certainly a simple yes/no question is usually not found in the runes, either. Most froms of divination, and I don't mean all forms, require seeking the answer based on the clues provided... you can even change the outcome of most situations by looking deeper into what the casting implies. Please let me know if this is not detailed enough and I will endeavor to delve deeper to answer you...thanks!

Yes your answer was very informative and reinforced my knowledge of the runes....what little that is. But i
never used just the one rune it was always three, i'll try this way and see what happens.
Thanx

There is a section on reading tea leaves in www.soyouwanna.com I'm not sure how accurate this is, but it seems pretty close to it. My best friend's grandmother reads, and she's awful good. You can see lots with this method.

I use this method most when i want to know something about myself, i don't use it on others and i have only used it once with family members and a friend i didn't care for the answers i got so i don't use it with them anymore, it works pretty well when i apply it to myself though so maybe it is my personal divination practice.

I just read a introductory book on tea leaf reading but it said nothing on how to brew the tea.
Anyone know if there is a special way of doing this prior to a reading :)?
