Been finding this article all over the place, and both wanted to warn that another retarded 'Satanic Panic' could be starting over it, and also see your responses.

Wow they sure got me pinned. This isn't general AT ALL.

Adolescents from white, middle-class and upper-middle class homes.
Above average intelligence but easily bored with schoolwork.
Creative and curious.
Overachievers.
Some have a history of family abuse or sexual abuse.

OMG I MUST JOIN A SATANIC CULT NOW!!!

WITCHCRAFT:

The practice of the white arts and black arts dates back thousands of years. The conjuring of spirits from the dead, prophesying the future, and casting deadly spells are part of this quasi-religion. The practitioners of Voodoo claim they can cause illnesses as well as cure ailments. Although gaining immense popularity in the US today, Voodoo worshipers are very secretive about their rituals and ceremonies. There are no reports of animal or human sacrifices, but there have been reports of spells cast upon enemies of witches and warlocks (male witches) causing fatal illnesses in its recipients.

Yup. Witchcraft, therefore of course Paganism in general=Voodoo.

Those living the lifestyle of Satan-worshipers rarely commit murder and rape during their religious rituals.

Rarely... thanks.

We can laugh, but seriously, I think he needs some help. Maybe a dose of healing energy might calm him down a bit?

yeah, i dont think that really narrows it down, and i jsut love the fact that in article they never stated that wicca and paganism are different than satanism, so yes, it is still helping with the same ignorance and contempt of our religion

They seem to think that only young people are involved in any type of religion mentioned... and to blame it on black metal and RPG's. ?

I also don't think they did their research... kept referring to witchcraft as voodoo... and also referred to male witches as "warlocks". And used Paganism and Satanism interchangeably....

But...

The scariest thing is... the people that are going to read that and believe every word.

Read the whole thing. Found this part. Which I take exception to.:

I can't read the entire article right now because I am at work, but three things have occured to me thus far:
1. The Blue Oyster Cult is NOT heavy metal.
2. Objectivism in journalism has all but disappeared, as is evidenced in this article, and
3. I hate people.

What an utter load of shit! This part: "The world of the Satanic cultist is filled with ritualistic violence, perverse sexual activity and abuse, Heavy Metal music and the use of illegal drugs such as marijuana, amphetamines (crank, speed, meth, crystal), psylocybin (an hallucinogenic drug similar to LSD), heroin and other others." pissed me off so much I had to stop reading. I'm not sure if this guy is just willfully ignorant or just stupid. (Both, which BTW are considered Satanic sins. :p )

About the ONLY thing he got correct was this bit: "...more people have been murdered in the name of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. than in the name of Satan."

Educate yourself on real Satanism before spouting this crap. And a cult is a cult and dangerous despite what religious label you slap in front of it.

I know at least one group who does do that. they worship lucifer or someone but I don't know their official name.

On the Black Mass:

the gold chalice may contain a bizarre and nauseating mixture of blood, urine and turnips.
Ewww...turnips!

Seriously, the writer does make an attempt to separate "Religious Satanism" from drug-filled sex-and-violence fests. He's got a source from the Temple of Set and probably didn't want to annoy them. ;) Onthe other hand, the rest of his sources are obviously believers in Satanic panic, and he conveys their viewpoints without much critical thought, either.

Haven't read it yet, but based on a small amount of realistic information that was included I'm inclined to believe somebody in the editorial process(from the original draft to final admissions) tried to fix the damage. A writer could submit an article and I'm sure the boss could bleed all over it before sending it on to be published. Not sure what the rules for newspaper journalism is.

I was watching CNN the day after this broke on there, and I heard the word Vampire...did you know, that we Vamps go around killing farm animals now? Wow. And, that we go about raiding cemeteries for bodies? Hey, the last time I was in a cemetery, I was helping clean it up! These people go on about us(Witches/Pagans/Vamps)using drugs and all sorts of BS, but it really makes me wonder what drugs THEY were on, when they thought up this ignorant BS.:nuhuh:

I'd like to point out in the article, the repeated insistance that the Temple of Set is legit, but all other pagans are insane satanic drug addicted, sex fiend, baby eating, animal sacrificing, murderers. Also, the man quotes a reporter and another investigator as credible sources of information, as well as Mike Warnke (which they spelled wrong and who is a Christian preacher who claims to have been a pagan high priest. Somehow though, no one has ever heard of him being active *in* the pagan community at all. Please see: http://www.watchman.org/occult/warnke.htm and http://answers.org/satan/warnke1.html Even the Christians don't put much stock in him since it was revealed that he was lying.) He doesn't quote any pagans, doesn't differentiate between Satanism and any other group in any appreciateable way, and is simply regurgitating misinformation. Only an investigator and writter who's got an agenda researches a topic without actually interviewing more than one member of the group that's being investigated.

However, unless we come up with a counter statement in our own defense, who do you think they'll believe? Personally, I think the 80's were bad enough as far as this was concerned. Do we really want the public as a whole believing this shit because they have no *decent* word against it?

Gracecat

But who will counter? Paganism is so diverse, there's nobody that can stand up and give an accurate statement. You don't hold to the threefold law Kay, will you settle for that being a global message? All Pagans do X, Y or Z...

Personally, I think it's laughable that we get this upset. It's only one instance and we're ready to say the sky is falling. I believe we'd look only more silly if we riot our news association than if we rolled our eyes and went on.

Because really? What did the 80's do to us? We weren't imprisoned, we weren't tortured, we weren't burned at the stake. We had bad publicity, but so does Hollywood.

In spite of mankind's advances in the arts and sciences, there remains a large number of people who have not been able to -- or refuse to -- shake-off the practices of pagan rituals.

And to think I was thinking of heading to my local art musuem to day. But, as it turns out pagan folk avoid art and science. Things like these are bad enough whats worse is there are people out there that actually believe it.

well not only does this make all practitioners of paganism and voodoo look bad, but i am sure that satanists are good and sick of getting bad raps too, they are probably reading this right now, saying damn! I wish these people would get there stories straighjt, that satanists don't practice animal sacrifice or kill babies, and that we are not pagans or practitioners of voodoo!

Being in Wichita, KS, this is the kind of garbage that invites the KKK to your door. Fortunately, no one in the entire neighborhood knows we're occultists, and I don't exactly go painting pentagrams on my rooftop or pasting bumper stickers all over my car. My home is messy and gives no hint of occult leanings. Only my bedroom does, and that's why NO ONE goes in there except for myself, my fiance, and other like-minded folks.

I think that *we* should counter. I'm sure there would be plenty of pagans right here on MW who would like to put together a collective response.

We don't all have to agree on what paganism *is*, but we do agree on what it isn't. The things in this article are wrong... why not set him straight?
