Um I know there is a term for it but I dont know it so... Any way, I was wondering if any one else experianced seasonal mood swings, cause my whole family does, and if it werent for magic pills none of us would sleep at these times, as it stands now I am the only one awake till 6 in the morning any more (cause I dont like to take pills or drugs for that matter but no one else I know has that hang up  )... If so is it sever or just like mild head aches and irritability? My mood is like weird, it all depends on the weather the moon and the season, I could be at my best but if all three are set unfavorably (winter, wanning, low tide, and sunshine that combo is really really bad for me...) nothing else matters. Or irritability when it hasnt rained in a few weeks... Does any one else experiance these things, if so what have you done to stabalize your emotions during the bad days/times?

Seasonal depression..

Yeah my mom has it real bad, and I have it mildly.
I find the best cure is turning on all the lights, heating up the house to summer heat and blaring music.. dancing up a storm!!
Inviting friends over to enjoy the time.. yapping.. parties small or large.

Excersize helps to knock me out at an earlier time and helps me sleep better.

I tend to get it bad. The dr. says it may be from lack of u.v. rays. I try to get outside as much as possible. but lately the cold weather is kicking my butt so I spend as much time as I can in the herp room(snake room) The heat lamps seem to help a bit ( they put off u.v. rays) I have to say if it was not for simply sleep (over the counter sleep aid) I would prob. be unbearable to live with. Try a grow light(found at garden shops and some pet stores)They not only help plants durring this time but you also.(why else do you think plants dont realy grow in the winter) ( lack or u.v. rays) Hope this helps. If you cant solve this on your own and start resting please go see your DR. it could be something worse like sever depresion.

Dr.s can actually prescribe a battery of specially balanced lights for S.A.D. If your health is being affected adversly (or the people you live with are about to throw you out) you might look into this. I hope it brightens up for you real soon.

i get S.A.D. every october it starts. and last till maybe february.
it is only bad some days mostly in the beginning. it helps to recognize it for what it is and that it will pass. and being creative helps, me when all the world seems so sterile and dead

and the days will be getting longer soon :bubbles:

I get SAD every year too. I know you said you didn't like drugs, but I take St John's wort form Oct to March and that helps. There are the light boxess, but they can be expensive. I try to be outsied as much as possible, but I hate the cold and tend to hibernate in the winter. I also crave crabs which is another symptom of SAD.

This year is my first as Pagan and I find it helpful to look atthe wheel of the year and see how it turns and each day that passes in one more closer to spring. And I also try to focus on this as a time that is natural for introspection and slowing down and soon the Earth will be reviving again.

Sorry if I am babbling!

Mato: Lots of people have it. In some countries where its dark a great deal of the year they have public sunning room thingys where everybody gathers and sits under these big lights.

Humans are kinda like hobbits.. they definitely need sun to survive.
Otherwise we can turn into gollums.

My mom once asked me if i was a couch potato. I told her to water and turn me periodically.
