I thought a little chatting was over due. Any body got some cool stuff? My personal favorites are my cloak given from a long time freind as a gift of respect. And the reason for this disscussion - my sword "the gaurdian of fire" as it's called. I'm also aquiring a Celtic war-sword and a sword from a long time freind. So anyody got any cool toys they want to brag about?

My wand/staff....I say both because it's kinda large for one, and too small for the latter. Found it while hunting for a place to hold my first Samhain ritual ever. It's about armlength and spiralled like it grew over a vine.
Speaking of drums, Mair, you know a ballpark price on a bodhran?

OOOOOOHHHHHHHH TOYS!

Let's see, I've got this big knife called the Isis blade hanging up in my living room that looks like it could puree somebody. I have a friend that calls it a Klingon blade! :p But I collect knives and I'm waiting on a Celtic war sword that I ordered to come in.

I recently got a hold of an Ozzy Osborne action figure that I keep in my bedroom (little hands and Ozzy don't mix). There for a while that was the first thing I saw in the morning when I woke up, because the table with it and all my other toys sits right beside the bed. Carmelo has taken to sleeping on that side of the bed anymore, so when he wakes up it's the first thing he sees. It's kind of eerie, kind of like Mol is watching us......

This was originally just about swords and stuff but I thank Dextra for bringing up other toys! I won't even mention all I've got(biiiiiiig list!).
My best pecies not previously mentioned are the Janis Joplin figure by McFarlane toys, man that thing is sweet! Ash from Army of Darkness, and Snake from Escape from New York we're great too( What no Ox Baker figure?). Should have a new sword to report on monday. Oh and for any true geeks I'm getting a Playstation2 this weekend!

I'd have to say that my pride and joy are my two cloaks, my ritual dress, and my grimoire! The ritual dress is made in medieval style with the long flowy sleeves. It's yellow because I'm an Aquarius which is an Air Sign (yellow for air) and the cloak is deep red, actually more like maroon. These were made for me by my mom and they are very dear to me because of the bond of respect, love, and friendship that we have. The other cloak is for those forays into the woods and such. It's made of a light weight wool on the outside and lined with copper coloured silky stuff. I'm very proud of this one too because I made it myself! Usually my sewing experiments go horribly wrong! ;) And my grimoire is a really really old imitation leather binder that I found one day. I was poking around in an old abandoned farm house and found it under a pile of junk and broken boards. So I took it home and restored it, and has become my grimoire.

As an after thought, I'd like to get a sword as soon as I can afford it but until then I just search for the right one!

*Brightest Blessings!*

Toys as in actual toys? I collect Pokemon *anything*. I have a giant Pikachu pillow I can't sleep without and slippers to match. I also have the card game without having a clue how to play, and plenty of tiny random figures.

Recently bought a celtic bodhran which I paid £40 for. Not sure what the dollar equivalent it.

My favourite pieces are a beautiful deep purple cloak which I made and my athame/sword which is a small replica of Excalibur. (A bit naff I know, but my son brought if for me and I do live in Cornwall). Finally my favourite piece of all is a white alabaster statue of Bast, which is 18 inches high and has the most exsquisite face. Again bought for me by a very dear friend, who always says I saved her life. Slight exaggeration, but my "reward" was Bast, so who am I to argue. :bigredgri

Depends on where you get them. I've seen them range from $39.95 to $300 for the same style/type of drum.

now there's a subject, i won't list the heavy ordnance unless somebody's interested (i don't see firearms as a big interest here) but my "pets" are a gerber fighting knife named "lady macbeth", a marine corps issue "ka-bar" an m1860 cavalry sabre and an m1832 "ames artillery short sword" with plans to get a "frasiers highlanders" regimental sword. my daughter prefers japanese swords and has a couple of fairly nice blades as well as an old british "fairbairn knife" and a navy mk 1 deck knife.

My brother and I bought a Claymore sword a few years ago and agreed he would hold on to it until he had children... Which I just heard will be at the end of this summer! I'm going to be an aunt! Yeah!

And it's a really cool sword... nearly as tall as me, but not quite.

Whoo Hoo... I have new toys... I have been seriously lacking in them.. until today. I didn't know that I was having living problems until after I spent all kinds of money but anyway... I went to Trader's Village here in Houston and found me three small knives. One's a hunting knife the other's are more decorative. I'm going to use at least one of them in ritual. I also got me a minature besom for only 50cents and a flute for $2 and some herbs and oils for reeeeaaallll cheap. Anyway, I just had to brag about my new ritual stuff... I happy about that...

(I'm easily amused and thrilled... <grin>)

Ooooh, fun topic! Here's my little list:

- my 5.5" cauldron, the first thing I ever bought, just too cute for words (and so multipurpose! :) )
- my small athame w/ hilt that I often wear to open rituals. I will be painting the currently plain wooden hilt with runes and the triple moon symbol )O( in silver.
- my pentacle necklace, featuring three silver pentacles, garnets and other assorted glass and plastic beads. Made for me by a wonderful guy at a fest I went to last year *blush*
- an assorted collection of trinkets; I seem to have several for every occation (did you know that Playmobile makes a Snake Goddess figure? Okay it's supposed to be a snake lady at a circus, but she looks like a Snake Goddess to me... ;) )

Blessed Be, all

Hmm ... there's something so overtly masculine about big, pointy things :D

So naturally, I have none ;)

My favourite toy is my bellydancing scarf - 1.5 to 2 metres of purple gauze, half of which is covered in gold coins that insist on jangling, no matter what you do with it (even balling it up doesn't work). I love noisy things.
But if it's genetic, I dread the day I have children.

A blade is the weapon of a warrior. I detest guns, but I wouldn't mind having a pair of nickel plated 45. automatics. It's what The Shadow carries. If ya gotta ask you'll never know.

Ok, I'll jump in here... I've got several medieval swords and a 16th century dagger. Had a complete suit of replica 16th century armor, but sadly had to let it go. As for magical toys, I've got a nifty crystal ball about five inches around, and a smaller blue one about two inches around. :)

Well, I am not big on the "Toys" ... but I do like a nice cloak or robe ... I am looking for a nice source for one that will not cost an arm and a leg ... I may be doing a marriage/handfasting soon (As I mentioned in the same sex thread) and will be wanting a nice robe or cloak. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank You ...

bluecat, see if you can locate a website for "museum replicas" of conyers georgia, the last time i saw their catalog they had a good line of reproduction medieval clothing of several different styles and patterns of several periods including cloaks as well as a very extensive line of edged weapons from many eras, some of which might be suitable as ritual knives. they are a subsidiary of "atlanta cutlery" also in conyers ga. and atlanta cutlery has, or had "build it yourself" knife kits that could help with making your own ritual knife which is of course preferable when possible (not all of us have the skills to make a knife starting from a chunk of bar stock after all, fewer yet can start from raw ore though the technology, for making steel in small batches, is not that complicated.)

but guns don't (cannot) detest you back, they're just inert tools until some person picks them up and wills to do good, protecting the weak and helpless, or evil, robbery and murder, with them. just as a ritual blade can be used for a blessing or a curse or a sword may be used by hero or villain.

by the way ozy, i've got a .45 automatic of the type "the shadow" carried though not nickel plated, it's the colt "government model" first out in 1911 and the u.s. service pistol for most of this century and a "warrior's weapon" as much as any sword. should you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods i'd be pleased to let you try it out on the range.

I've got that Isis blade up on my wall for a reason. It's the first thing you see when you come in my front door. It serves as a warning for those who think they're going to get away with something. ;)

"genetic"? as in "that's a guy thing" i'm not so sure about that, my daughter grew up to enjoy riding motorcycles, shooting sports and collecting edged weapons. but she also has a healthy interest in the care and well being of her daughter and is a bright lovely young woman (yes, i'm prejudiced!). are you a dancer? some of the music i enjoy listening to when i'm relaxing is belly dance music. "light rain" for one. and "sultaniyegah".

sounds like fair warning to me dextra, and i know of nothing in reede or word that requires you to stand helpless before evil. your life is precious to you and you have the right, and duty, to yourself and those that love you, to defend it.

Most recently I acquired a small cauldron. It is cast iron.
Question though?
Do I have to treat it like I would a frying pan before I use it?

I would recommend taking prudent steps to prevent rust, if that is what you are asking.

There may be other thoughts on this.

Yes that is exactly what I meant. I don't want it to rust Now, if only I can remember how to treat cast iron. Easy enough, I will ask me momma. She will know.
She will be so proud that I have acquired a new frying pan. LOL

the only thing i'm sure of about cast iron skillets is that they make an awful "boooong!!" when they fetch up side a head but i do have a dim memory of hearing that a cast iron skillet should be seasoned with olive oil before use and i'd wonder if a cauldron might want the same thing. not much help i suppose but the best i can do.

i've just checked in with my daughter's fiance who does, and enjoys, a good bit of cooking. he says that a cauldron or skillet should be seasoned by rubbing it with olive oil before use to keep it from rusting and that olive oil will not burn in use. and my wife agrees with him.

Thanks. I was sure it had to be seasoned too.
Guess, I know what I am going to enjoy doing this weekend....

After washing cast-iron, dry it thoroughly.
It will always need to be protected with a thin coat
of oil. :D :sunny:

Lets see... We have about six daggers. Two swords (one a replica of Sting frrom LOTR my love gave me as a Yule gift our first year together. Talk about trust:) ) A pewter collection I have had for years. No whips or anything but I enjoy what I have.

Lask year I picked up a sweet djembe at T.J.Maxx for about $30. I had been wanting a dumbak but I sure liked the tone of this drum and couldn't beat the price. I also have a very interesting drone flute. I'm not very good at playing either of them but I have fun trying. ;)

Many years ago I picked up a beautiful knife at a renaissance festival that has a marvelous scrimshaw handle made from a curved walrus tusk. I'm still looking for the perfect sheath for it.

I've been making and selling cloaks for years, I finally kept one for myself - really dark black with red trim, full length, so nice.

And I'll never part with the 12-inch-square mirror that my daughter hand-painted with a vine-wrapped pentagram, or the one that my best friend wood-burned onto a 10-inch-square piece of wood.

(edited)

Ack! How could I forget my whip? Only a 6 footer, but we've had so much fun together at renaissance festivals.
