hi guys :)
I'm going in for surgery on the 18th of December (coming up really fast) and I'm scared out of my wits. The hospital called today to give my parents the details and what we have to do. 11:15 am is when I'm going in. I've tried some stuff to keep my mind clear and to keep myself centered and focused on the outcome (no more pain!) but its not helping anymore. The quicker the day comes, the more I'm frightened by it :( Any advice?

Been through a few surgerys here and the advice I can give is try to keep calm. Visualize pure white light encasing your whole body.. Talk with your dieties and take care of yourself. I know how scarry this is. I am sending lots of calming positive energy to you. Good luck and please make sure you follow dr. orders.. Stay down and let everyone take care of you.

Hug a Pet, Hug a Friend. Read a good book, Watch Cartoons.. Drink Hot Cocoa and Eggnog.. Play word games like scrabble and stuff like that. help take your mind off of surgery.

Don't know what to say but good luck. Lots of hugs and I'll write on my calendar to light a special candle on 12/18.

Well, it sounds like your already doing the right thing!:) Just keep focusing on the "no more pain" aspect. Brightest wishes on a speedy recovery!:sunny:

Just keep focusing on the positive, and you'll get through it and be better than ever.
I wish you good luck. I know you'll do just fine.

I know its hard to do but it helps. What kind of surgery if you
dont mind my asking? Also, tell your doctor and nurses about
your fears, they can help alot and give some good advice.
I have had many surgeries and you will always be a little nervous.
Family helps, but friends help more! They let you know things are
gonna be normal.

This will be the 4th surgery on my left elbow from an old Navy injury, I've been informed that this is the 4th of 5, possibly getting a newe elbow replacement next summer, just call me the Terminator heheheh

The surgery..well..there is a very painful ganglion cyst on my left wrist that the doctor says I have to have removed. Thank God. No more pain. I'm still scared about all of it though. Mostly the IV :/

Your Wrist? C'mon, there's no need to be worried. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like there's anything sensetive or critical way over in that part of the body. As long as your anestesiologist isn't a complete moron, you're in the clear lady! You're in like boy bands!!!

First ask the IV therapist,Nurse, to apply some EMLA cream. This will numb the area, it take a few minutes to work. Then, since its
a little numb, they can give you a tiny local, subQ. This means a
tiny stick with an insulin style syringe just below the skin. Less
than a bee sting.
Trust me on this, I have had literally thousands
of iv's put in. I now have a port so that they dont have to do
them any more. A port is like a plug in under the skin. Dont
worry though, you're just getting a simple IV. Ask Semele about
IV's if you are still worried, she is a nurse, pediatric nurse, and a
very good one at that!! Love ya Semele!
Send her a pm.

I hate IVs too.. I can still feel mine from years ago when I think about it *in my head.. kinda like you can feel tinfoil feeling between your teeth if you think about it*
You've little to worry about hun. Be happy, think positive. Don't think on pain of such things. That little pain to cause such great pain relief, is well well well worth it!

My ex-H had a ganglion. His doctor said, "well, we could do surgery ... or you can just stretch out your hand on this table and I'll hit it with a book!" He had the surgery. I think it was a better idea, and I'm sure you do, too.
I hope all goes well for you.

Dang I missed you...........I'm sure your still in the hospital and to give you advice after the operation would just be asinine. But let me know how you made out. As a heart patient I've had seven operations and the only advice I wold have been able to give is to make sure you're comfortable with the dr who is doing the surgery. Other than that I really don't think there is any way not to worry about it. Hope all went well my e-mail addy is thetheologin (thetheologin@yahoo.com). Or you can reach me on AIM: UnbridledPoet
