I've decided to purchase a table for an altar, with the money I accumulate from the holiday season. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to purchase nice tables?

Thanks :D

hehe that's what I was thinking

any table will work. Maybe a hope chest or other such thing would be good too, so you can store your tools inside?

I just use one of my coffee tables or an end table. :)

One of those round 3 legged tables make a nice alter. Just through an alter cloth over it....or one of the tablecovers made for it. (these are usually solid prints)

I, personally, use my "Sofa Table". It a long rectangular table with a bottom shelf. I think mine cost about...$300-400 dollars. I have a corner couch but bought this with the rest of the set. (coffee and end-table) It just sort of turned into my alter. :D One of those Happy Accidents! :D

I have alter's all over my house! lol I use the top of my boyfriends foot locker in the bedroom. I just threw a sarong over the top of it and went from there. I also have an alter on top of a low bookcase in my livingroom; this is across the room from my "official" alter. The bookcase is where I have placed most all of my witchy supplies. :D

you could find a beautiful one at an antique store. than you would have a treasure for life.
since you are saving up. really get something great and take your time finding just the right table.

I took an apple crate and turned it upside down. I put 3 planks of wood about 12 inches long and 5 inches wide on it. I painted the element colors on their and the symbol for the Goddess on the Left and the God on the Right. So I can put the planks into the crate and slide it under the bed, a chair, or even under my dresser. I can slide it out and set it up and put it in the middle of my room and flop a pillow down on the floor and do what I gotta do. I love this and it's very convenient....Kinda like one of those exercise machines that slide in and out easily from the bed or closet....hehehehe.

Wait until after boxing day. Lots of furniture stores have great sales then. What about those Pine furniture stores? You can buy an unpainted table or cabinet & paint it to the colours that suits you best. Or the Salvation Army stores or thrift stores. You can find something there that you can refinish yourself. Or check out some books on building furnitures & make something that will suit you best. I have some books on making your own cabinets out of 2x4 planks. (All I ever built was a couple of benches!)

Ohh, so much advice. Thanks everyone ;)

I have my altar all planned out. I'm moving out my old bookshelf and putting it where it was (in the corner of my room.) I'm going to gather all my artistic work and pictures I've liked from books and hang them up on the wall in a huge collage.

I'm so excited ... I can hardly contain myself.

:boing:

Thanks again everyone.
