I just got a live christmas tree. Usually at my moms, it's a fake one tha tlooks real. But my dad uses live trees. I have thought about it before, but seeing my boyfriend wincing as the tree was cut made me think.
How many of you get live trees? How many don't? How many don't mind? How many HATE having the trees killed?
So answer the poll and post your view! hehe

My family gets the live one. But we don't cut them ourselves. We used to but it got to cold. I've never thought about how it's killing the tree and all. :ugh:

A Live tree is uncut.
A Real tree is either cut or still potted
A fake tree is plastic.
hehe
I like LIVE trees.. I want to have one, I'm intending on buying one this year actually, I'm researching different types of pines and other such conifers.
Ideally when I have kids when they have their first christmas\yule I'd like to plant a tree for each of them.
I prefer real trees in general, But thats because the tree my family gets is used an entire year.
First as a pretty tree,
Then as my maypole,
then as the yule log,
Then as firewood.
We also plant trees and flowers during the spring, so I don't feel particularly guilty.
Saddened a little at first, but then I make the tree happy, at least I think so, when I give it it's "new life" and "new purpose"

As a slightly humorous sidenote,
I wanted a little *live\real* tree this year for me and my bf in our bedroom.
He tried to cop out and asked if a ceramic tree would be okay.
To this I responded to the tune of "oh christmas tree"
"A scented tree, A scented tree.
I really want a scented tree.
A scented tree, for me and you
A scented tree to light my room.
A scented tree, a Scented tree
I really want a scented tree"
He then informed me that he would gladly get me a christmas tree
air freshener to hang over my computer.

I think Trees are important,
they give us oxygen and provide us shade,
they make neat homes for little animals. and birds
if it werent for trees we would not have fire wood, or for some people, there would be no jobs, or no homes...
I do however believe that if you do feel the need to cut down a tree, for whatever reason, (shelter, firewood, or religious celibration)
you should remember to plant a tree to restore the balance on Arbor day....
centuries ago, trees have always been adorned with gold and silver to celebrate the holidays, (yule and then later on the christian faith borrowed the tree from the pagans)
I think that cutting down a tree for no reason at all is bad..
I also think it is a matter of personal chioce and beliefs ...Personally I would go with an artificial tree becuase that tree can be used year after year and many good memories can be associated with it, (and you arent stuck vacuming up pine needles till march!)
I DO feel that some advocates take matters to extreme..by protesting against the cutting down of trees for any reason, that is a bit too much in my book, but still I respect thier views.....

Well. I do my tree\plant planting on Imbolc*for plants that have a slow growth and need to begin indoors* and Ostara *when it's time to wake nature*
But a living tree can be used year after year too. I mean living as in one in a pot, or one outdoors. They can also be decorated for everyseason, no just one.

I feel that trees are already cut down way too much. We use them for all of our paper products out there, which is a lot. In my opinion, this is insulting the earth by cutting down her trees and making them into stuff like paper towels and plates. I know and understand we do need paper to write on, etc ... but stuff like paper plates , etc is just a waste to me.
Hmmm, so thus can ya'll guess my stance on real x-mas trees? I'm pro-fake.
However, that is plastic and plastic is harmful to the earth too. But I'd rather not get started again, heh heh.

Well technically tree farms aren't much better because they destroy natural habitat.
then again believe it or not, farms in general are fairly destructive to nature. I should get my mom on here sometime. She went to school for horticulture and farming before she went into Landscape Design.
I agree that paper towel, and plates whatever are pretty frivilous and wasteful. I don't use them. Stick to ye ole napkins of the cloth nature, and ceramic. I don't believe in plastic utinsels either.
I'll suffer with the dishes.
This is why I continue to go for Real, Living trees over dead or plastic trees. There is absolutely no damage done to the world in having a living potted tree.

Only REAL trees. I don't like fake ones cause:
1. they're plastic
2. don't smell like real ones
3. I can make only fake feelings with fake things(trees)

We have a fake one. It looks moderatly real, but I'd prefer a LIVE one.
