so i was reading a book today that said half the astrological signs are feminine and half are masculine... so i was thinking... maybe your sexual orientation is affected by the signs you were born under... for example... a man was born under a feminine sun sign and a fem. moon sign, he'll me gay. or if he's born with a masculine sun sign and a fem. moon sign he'll be bisexual?
is that how it works?
just curious.
what do you guys think?

There's an awful lot of debate about this among astrologers. The problem is, that the theories people come up with have more to do with their own personal prejudices than astrology!
In traditional astrology, homosexuality was considered to be indicated by an "afflicted" Venus - this was based on the prejudice that homosexuality was a "deviation" and therefore something must be "wrong" with one's Venus. Also, masculine planets in female signs was supposedly an indication of an "effeminate" man, or female planets in male signs an indication of a "manly" woman.
In pyschological astrology, homosexuality was considered to be indicated by an afflicted Moon - this was based on the prejudice that homosexuality must have been your Mum's fault.
Nowadays, it's popular among astrologers to consider a highly active Uranus to indicate homosexuality - this is based on the (rather more positive) prejudice that homosexuals are radical mould-breaking exciting individuals.
As a gay man, I have quite a few gay clients, so I've seen a lot of charts of gay people. As a challenge to astrologers with their own pet theories, I've posted a dozen charts and said "tell me which are the gay charts". Nobody has succeeded.
This isn't surprising. You can't tell what sex, or even what species, someone is from looking at their chart - so it's no surprise that you can't tell their sexual orientation. What I have noticed is that openly gay men (I don't have enough lesbian clients to be able to comment for anyone other than men, sorry) do have a prominent Uranus. However, this doesn't mean that Uranus is an indicator of sexual orientation, only that Uranus is an indicator of an attitude that is prepared to confront prejudice and change society. The many "closeted" (not open about their sexuality) gay men I know do not have a prominent Uranus - and of course this is the problem with a "gay" signature. If a homosexual comes for a reading and is so closed about his sexuality that he doesn't tell anyone he's gay (and I would say only a relatively small proportion of the homosexual population are "out" about our sexuality), then nobody (including his astrologer) would know they were looking at a gay chart!
So I'd say a prominent Uranus is a possible indicator of an openly gay individual - although Uranus will also be prominent in the charts of straight people into unusual pursuits, such as astrology!

Hi Sybba Leigh,
I am middle aged het. woman but you can't tell it from my chart...well OK, you can tell how old I am, but that is all. The parts about me being a woman or being het. or gay; nope. You also can not tell how evolved a person is by looking at their charts. You can see that some people have bigger agendas for their lives than others, that their charts are full of challenges and hard weather, while others charts seem easy in comparison. But you can't discern whether folk have been developing or resisting their life's work unless you talk with them or have psychic gifts (which many astrologers in fact do have).
Usually about half of my friends are out gays/lesbian because I tend to gravitate towards people who are out. I admire people who are brave enough to be openly themselves even when it is dangerous and/or merely social suicide. It has been risky at times being ME this life too. I suspect we all need to get brave and come out stronger. Comformity limits us all so much.
Anyway, I too have looked at many charts for gay friends and come to the conclusion that sex is sex and love is love and social difficulties are a drag and sure some of us get into more trouble than others, just by being ourselves...but details like our bodies (dark, fair, fat, thin, ugly, pretty) and sexual wirings are not the point. We all do the best, or less than the best, with what we have been given. Being gay is still a difficult thing on this planet, being black and gay may well be harder yet. Being black, lesbian, Pagan and a commie is harder yet, no doubt, but it sounds like a fascinating and potentially very great life for all that!

There really is no way to tell. But it's as good a supposition as any I've heard.
I've heard all sorts of wild theories. One of my favorites - "aspects between the Sun/Moon and Uranus . . . are often present in the charts of homosexuals of both sexes." Yeah, and most other people on the planet. (Current estimates put about 1/6th of the human population as GLBT.)
Masculine and feminine were a handy way for those who codified the signs to define the energies. Masculine (like Yang) being active, warm, and energetic; Feminine (like Yin) being cool, calm, and receptive. They do not necessarily refer to women and men. As astrologers, many of us are also guilty of interpreting the myths TOO literally and taking the roles of the characters as gospel (i.e. a myth with a male protagonist become a 'male' sign/planet') instead of the allegories that they really are. I'm in the camp of Robert Heinlein, who proposed there were really six human sexes - Hetero Male, Hetero Female, Homo Male, Homo Female, Bi Male and Bi Female.
The only thing you can tell from my chart is that I don't act like the "good girl" my parents thought I would be. (I've wondered half-seriously if they'd seen my chart when I was born, would they have put me up for adoption? ) I like cars, electronics, math, computers and other 'boy' type things. I carry a full set of screwdrivers in my purse, but good luck finding any lip gloss. My father calls me "the son he never had."
Interesting article on this topic for the astrologers here: http://www.aplaceinspace.net/Pages/PClampHomophobia.html

I don't know a lot about astrology so i'm not sure what signs i was born under, i do know i'm a leo and the sun is my sign (is that masculine or feminine?).
I personally don't think that people should even be trying to find out why people are GLBT since it's normal just as much as being straight. I'm gay and i think that being GLBT is something that makes you, you like being creative or good at sports, it's not something that you can suddenly make a vaccine for and try and discover why (maybe it's in your soul - the stuff that makes someone unique).
I also don't like it when someone might say that gay people are gay because they were females in a past life (i heard it a lot on a few wiccan forums and sites) since that would make you transgendered and most GLB people aren't, i just think some guys like guys, some girls like girls and some like both :).
I hope that made sense.

I think what you mean is that Leo is the sign that your Sun (which is a planet) is in. For your information, both the Sun and Leo are considered masculine. So there you go!

@Fluffmeister
I also think that a highly active Mercury, or having planets in Virgo/ Gemini might add to being gay...
4 friends of me (2 guys: 1 bi, 1 guy; 2 girls: 2 lesbians)
The guys, 1 is Gem sun (conj Merc in 9) He has Mars on the rise, out of 12 in Libra (early Libra rising, so Mars rules the DC) and Mars quincunxes Venus...
The other guy is a virgo sun (Merc also in Virgo but very near his Virgo Mc)...
He has a Moon in 8 (8th house ruled by Gem)... opposed by Neptune...
I think Neptune could also have to do something with being gay or at least confusion in sexual matters...
The Girls
One has Gem Moon in 8 (Gem on 8th cusp)
Other one is a Gem Sun conj Mercury in 10 (Merc near 11)
The last one is a intresting case... Neptune approaches her DC (her natal DC is Aqua) for the moment and Uranus entered her 8th house last year somewhere in march... she came out in march, april somewhere... 'the power of transits' (maybe) also her Venus (in 11 in Cancer) opposes Neptune (in 5 in Cap)
But off course, you never can tell which the gay charts are...
There's always something as free will
If you look at me astrologically, i'm a highly effeminate man (8 out of 10 planets in female signs and sun conj mars in Cancer)
But i'm straight
I had doubts, when i was 15/ 16, but then i had my first experience with a woman and i knew that was it.
