I'm a working mom trying to find a job I can do from home and I want a career at the same time. I'm trying to define myself. I have a degree in phytotherapy but I have no idea on how to get started to make a living off of that.
So I thought, maybe I can try massage therapy? So I signed myself up for an initiation course at a well renowned school. I thought this is a great way to get started. People might not know herbs but they know massage. I had a whole plan laid out for the next year or so. I figured great this way I can provide for my family and care for my children and get rid of daycare.
I went to the first day of initiation today. Guess what? I hate it. Now all my year long plans are down the drain and I'm back to square one and I'm really sad/mad at myself for not wanting to stick with it.
i feel like such a failure.
GAH!

What is phytotherapy? You mentioned herbs, if it has to do with natural nutrients and such, maybe you could contact some chiropractors since they are into the more natural methods instead of man made pills....

Might sound weird but... touching people! Who knew! I know I'm friendly and caring but I'm not big on massaging people I don't know. Which I found out today. LOL
Phytotherapy is healing with herbs. A phytotherapist is kinda like a doctor that uses herbs instead of "traditional" pill form products.
I've got my diploma, but I just don't know how to start. I don't know if I can make a living off of it either.

What starfire said.
There are all kinds of new age healing centers that might be interested in a phytotherapist. You know, the sort of places that hire a variety of professionals: a chiropractor, massage therapist, nutritionist, acupunture, homeopathy - they might be willing to add a phytotherapist to their ranks. :] I expect at a place like this you could certainly make a living.
Where to start might be narrowing down some locations that staff these types of people. Get your resume together and maybe an information pamphlet on what phytotherapy is (and why they need it.) Then you get to go out and try to sell yourself and your expertise.
You could also register a small business to work out of your house. Make cards - pass them out - offer "just getting started" discount.
Finally get some internet tools ready. Make yourself a website and logo. And never underestimate putting your resume on monster.com

I'm sorry this happened to you. But maybe it was for a reason. Don't give up hope yet though! You will soon be able to plan another year and it will work wonderfully for you!!

I was also wondering if there is an organic store in your area, maybe you could put up flyers, or even hold informational classes at your home.
Also many people who are into martial arts as a way of life and exercise believe in the holistic approach, so this may be another avenue to take. My son is very into this type of things, and I thought he should go into herbalogy (sp) is that the same type of thing?
There are doctors that practice holistic threapy and approaches, contact them.
Good luck, one day at a time.
It is good that you tried the massage, just like other medical fields, you are always touching people, it is a way of soothing. Unless you can look at it from that view, then you at least know that is not for you.
