Not to exclude any of the lovely men we have here on this sight...But does anyone have a technique you use to help overcome this nasty urge to snap at anyone and EVERYONE!!!!????

Chocolate releases endorphins (sp?...pleasure causing chemicals) into your body. When i'm feeling moody I have a nice hot bath and a hershey bar :D
Peaceful music can also help

Carbs won't add fat while you have PMS. :D It's natural for a woman's body to crave these things ~ and they're put to go use. So, do your body (and your hormones) some good!

Ok, assuming you have an access to herbs, this tea should do the trick.

Ingredients:
Valerian [2 parts]
Black haw aka,Sweet Viburnum [1 part]
Chamomile [1 part]

Preparation:
Combine the ingredients in the above measurements and make a tea with 1 heaping teaspoon of ingredients, letting it steep for 5-10 mins. [stemy herbs take longer to steep than leaves!] drink 3 times per day.

Comments:
The valerian acts as a natural sedative. The Black haw relaxes and sedates the uterus and related organs. The chamomile is a natural soother for mind and stomach alike.

Warnings: DO NOT USE if you have aspirin sensitivity [black haw] or allergies/hayfever [chamomile]. Also, valerian is a natural sedative akin to Valium so, it may cause impairment in regards to driving etc.

My Girlfriend swears by this and I think it has kept me alive this long. Just kidding honey! I LOVE you...gulp!! Good luck. :)

Peace,
Twig :elf:

Let's not forget that men also suffer from PMS. This is a scientifically proven fact.

When I was with my ex, I would suffer through the once a month thing right along with her. Of course, mine was worse than hers would be. In truth, I'm such a bitch. You women think you had it bad, she had it ten times worse...from me.

Of course, I just discovered that I pick up on emotions and magnify them.

I don't have any way that I deal with it because it is still new to me, so I am taking all of your ideas into consideration for the next time, if ever, I suffer from the male version.

How right you are, Carmelo. I just to joke that "when I stopped, Mr started", then I realized how true it was. Why, just the other day, he was complaing about his "apostrophe" ROTFLMAO!

Yeah, men really do pick up on our hormones and it effects them...
My brother would get bitchy with me just before I got into serious PMS stages. It was scary!
Reese's peanutbutter cups always make me incredibly happy! :)
I also crave caffeine, which I'm told curbs PMS somehow... I just don't remember how...

Let's see, chocolate releases endorphins but could be fattening. So, what releases endorphins but does not have a lot of calories?

SEX!!!

(ahem)

Perhaps I'm just projecting...

When I get irritated easily or "bitc*y" and start snapping at people for no reason (or no conscious reason anyways), I seperate myself from others for a few minutes and relax. If this doesn't work I retreat to the bathroom and stare into the mirror at my reflection. Sitting on the counter with my feet in the sink (don't laugh) I focus on one pupil and I visualize myself being drawn into my eye. Everything at this point begins to change shape, ghost-like vibrant colors surround me, there are no external sounds to be heard, and images become dream-like almost as if viewing them through a warm haze that is very comforting. I do this until I become so relaxed that I have to prop my head on the mirror in order to remain upright. I slowly stand up and collect my thoughts and venture back out into the world. This method of meditation (?) leaves me so peacful and content with the world that I'm just floating through the rest of the day. Maybe you can find a way (like meditation) that works for you and allows you to center yourself or at least allows you to purge the negative energy?
Just a thought.........

Create a good day!

I always have bad pms as well... I have a new herb to try out that I got as a suggestion from a coven member with bad pms as well.

Red Leaf Rasberry tea.
I have never had it until today and I think it helped. I actually haven't started with the actual cramps but I always feel sh**** an entire week before. Anyway, try brewing a cup of that and it might help. Also taking Vitamin B-6 is good for pms. Calcium, Magnesium, and zinc are also good for helping. If you have thyroid problems that can also cause worse pms symptoms so if you have a problem with that you can either take the herbal supplements to help with it or go to a doctor and get thyroid hormones. Valerian will help relax you. I have a problem with panicking on my period because of the intense pain so if I stay relaxed it helps alleviate some of the pain. I also always stay doped up on ibuprofen beginning a week before I start which is supposed to help with the pain.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone!! I tried the carbs and ok maybe a chocolate bar too!!! I'm feeling better but fat. I am copying down the recipe for the tea for the future (great recipe!!!). I do meditate on a frequent basis but think I will start trying a new method. And well sex to cure PMS...well I don't think anything beats that!!!!!!!!!!

Now I also have a little more insight as to why men are the way they are now too..(HEHE)

Blessed Be

A long hot bath with relaxing oils, scented candles and calming music always helps me. The hot water helps eleviate cramps while the scents of the oils and candles work on both body and mind, as does the music help relax.
If you're in a public place, sometimes just escaping to the ladies room for five minutes to close your eyes and focus on your breathing helps.

PMS the dreadful thing most women get once a month. I however, get once it every so often. Mainly when my menstral cycle is induced. I suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Diease. A condiction of which creates havoc with my cycle. Every three months I have to induce my period. Believe you me, it is very very painful. Image storing all of your PMS days through out three months and having to live them in seven to ten days each time it is induced. And you know this is going to happen. It's not like you don't know already since your husband is still recovering from the last time. HEE HEE He even thinks it is best for you to continue doing this. Go figure. I pitty those around me. Mainly myself, but thats another story. :D

Midol is a wonder drug. Considering I have craps for three months in the time spand of seven to ten days. You would not believe that this is actually a living hell compared to a dream. Most people would give anything to have their period as often as I do. What are you thinking, is all I can say. It is not all what's cracked up to be. Believe me! :smash:

If you want advice on how to deal with it, you can't. It is something that happens whether you want it to or not. Unfortunatly it happens to some more often than others. I am glad I do not have it every month, but compared to how it is now, I'd gladly have it every single month!!!! Just so my husband will survive with little to no emotional and physical scares. HEE HEE :bad:

i was really just wondering about the reasons, and i think that mystique must be on to something because when i take my super-duper-nifty vitamin-thingies fairly regularly, i barely get any painful symptoms. this is probably because mine aren't that terrible to begin with, but i say, if it works on me, why not try it on you? any little thing to help, eh?

hope it does,

....my husband has picked up some of my pms symptoms every now and then, anything from the crankiness, the absent mindedness and the munchies! What's even stranger is that I think my cat picks up some of it too!

Something that has been helpful to me is taking Evening Oil of Primrose capsules. About a week before my cycle I'll start taking 2 a day and it really makes a difference, especially with the irritability. I also use a pms relief spell from Dorothy Morrison when it gets bad.

Charm for PMS Relief--
Carry a moonstone with you starting one week before your period and continuing through the end of it. Empower it by chanting:

Stone ofMoon and Tide and Sea
Chase pain and bloating far from me.
All menstrual symptoms, now relieve.
As I will, so mote it be!

Y'all have listed most of the ones that I use. I also will use a warm compress on my abdomen when I've got muscle aches from the cramps. All of the women in both sides of my family swear by raspberry tea. If you can get the leaves from the bush itself, not mixed with another tea, it makes it that much more potent. You want to pick the leaves between the time when the bush first get's the blossoms and the first fruit matures. The closer it is to the mature fruit, the more potent the tea is.

Aside from that, my mother taught me *waaay* too much about the female body. My gynecologist winces when she has to deal with me or my mother because she can't dumb it down and avoid explaining stuff to us. <laughs> I just love giving her that stunned dear in headlights look when I ask that infamous question "why?" But, I'm rambling again. I recall somebody asking about why some women get cramps and others don't, along with other stuff like cravings.

All women get some degree of cramps. The ones who say that they don't most likely get very mild cramps. Usually, how strong and well toned the muscles in your abdominal area has a direct impact on much you suffer with cramps. The weaker your abs are, the worse your cramps are, as a general trend. If you are like myself and a few others here, you may still suffer with bad cramps when you are in good shape. That is usually seen in conjunction with a few other things, like having an irregular cycle.

Cravings and bloating are actually good things. When a woman is dealing with her menses, her body will experience a dramatic drop in various nutrient levels and be dehydrated if she doesn't drink enough water and *doesn't* have bloating. When you have cravings, that's your body's way of making sure that you have enough nutrients so that you stay healthy. Bloating keeps you from being dehydrated. After all, you are loosing *alot* of fluid from your body when you menustrate.

Mood swings are a result of hormonal imbalances. If you make small changes in your diet during your menses, you can compensate for this. Raspberry tea, for example, eases severe cramping, acts as an antidepressant, and clenses the body when you are experiencing PMS or your menses. When you are *not* in this situation, it is a good blood clenser and it acts to tone the uterus and bladder, however it may possibly act as a mild depressant. Aside from diet changed, physical activity will help with the mood swings. A fine example of this is sex. Not only will sex go ahead and get those endorphins going (woohoo!) but it will also help with cramps by working the muscles in a slightly different way.

Aside from that, my mother has always told me that cramps is your body's way of getting ready for pregnancy and the actual birthing process. <shrugs> Of course, when you only have your period once ever few *months* it makes you pray that labor will be easier. <shudders> Bless who ever it was that realized that the Pill makes your cycle regular. I'd kiss them if I could because my life has improved dramaticly.

Hope this helps. :D
