View Full Version : Reiving and Wards - Psychic Nasties and Baddies
Myst

I'm often surprised to learn about people who don't magickally cleanse their home. I do it every 6-8 weeks out of necessity - I know it needs to be done again because I start having nightmares! I also reset the perma circle around my home (for protection), my return to sender stuff, wards, and guardians.
Being an empath and a channeller I find some nasty energy tends to curl up like dust bunnies in the corner otherwise. This kind of nasty stuff can be disruptive - like lines on a tv screen - and can thus cause arguments, poor feelings, and even illness!
Do you cleanse your home magickally (reive)? If so, how often, and how? Do you set up wards, guardians, a perma circle, or other magicks for protection? Do you have any good ideas for doing so?

I cleanse my house with a Sage Wand....all around the doors and windows....along the walls. I also like to chant....but it's nothing written nor is the same every time.....just whatever comes to mind while I'm doing it. :D
I like to do it at least once a month during the winter since I don't get any ventilation in the house. During the summer, I go a little longer (5-7 weeks) because I usually let the breezes sweep most of the ickies away. My home just feels so much cleaner in the summer when I leave my windows open all the time. :D
I live in an apartment building....so it's difficult to cast a circle around my apartment (as it would also go into the apartment above me....and their energy is just icky too~!) Plus my apartment isn't quite square, but trying to working on the Feng Shui of it. So anyways, I just draw a banishing pentagram on my ceilings with the sage wand to keep their ickies from "sinking" into my space. I do this with any adjoining and outdoor walls too. So, I don't have any other protection in place.
I would welcome any other ideas!

I cleanse my home regularly but I don't have a timetable. I can usually feel it's time & go do it. Usually, when we feel snappish for no apparent reasons & everyone starts to bicker more. I live in a house with a yard so I usually do inside the house first then outside. I use a smudge stick that I put together for that purpose and go from room to room. I use the smoke to draw a pentacle on each wall, ceiling & floor. What I say depends on what room I'm in. I usually say what comes to mind. When I'm done, I take the ashes & the rest of the smudge & bury them by the driveway. After, it just feels so much better, more safer & comfortable.

I am sure to do it everynight actually, I usually just cleanse the house with an enormous white light. Once every month or so I Get out my white candle and salt water and walk around the house chanting a protection Well chant:) Usually these two and they work remarkably well, not just in this case but in every case.
"I am protected by your might, oh gracious god of day and night."
"Round and Round the circles bound, cast the evil into the ground."
Welp thats what I do

Yes I do cleanse my house on a pretty regular basis...about every 6 weeks or so. I'm glad you posted this it reminded me it was time to do it again. I usually use a sage smudge stick but when I don't have one I use sage incense...works just as well in my opinion. As far as a protective circle I did this when I moved into my new home in August and I think I will do it again soon. Can someone share some more information about wards and guardians please?

Sure! Wards are basically symbols or sigils that you place somewhere for a purpose. For example, you might find some protective runes and carve them or paint them on your door and windows so no nasty people can get in. Or you might make a sigil for blessing (oh that's another topic) and paint or carve it on the door so everyone who walks into your home is blessed!
Guardians are spirits or entities you ask to guard your home. Basically you imagine something/someone protective guarding your home - for example I ask a dragon to protect my home, and keep a little statue that reminds me of him to help me think of him or focus on him. I've also heard of using wolves or big cats or anything else you would like to guard your home.

... but I am still a Pagan Baby.:D
I usually get some essential oils out and add them to my steam cleaner. I use white camphor and orange. In Cunningham's Magical Aromatherapy they are used for cleansing, peace, and protection. As I vacuum, I say some sort of chant, similar to Mist's. And I envision all the crud being sucked into the machine and then poured down the drain. The last time I did this, I also used a household cleaning "spell" from Cunningham's Magical Household. (Ya think I like Cunningham? ;)). I took each of the elements through the house and cleansed all the areas that way too, visualizing the elements dissolving any negativity.
I really noticed a big difference, even my mom said how peaceful my house felt a week or so after I did this. And yup- I thinkI need to do it again. Stress seems to build up in my house!

I usually go Dagda's root - sage. Smudge sticks are usually my saviour when it comes to anything like cleansing.
Some times, I also cleanse the room with the elements and create sacred space. Although I don't use most rooms for workings, I find it cleanses the room, w/ great result.

I usually smudge with sage every few months or so. Nothing major but i should try using the panthers/wolves for protection as well. Never really thought about it.

I'm another who swears by the sage smudge stick! I also make a decotion of sage, rosemary, lavender, some lemon and lime with a few drops of essential oils such as frankincense, ginger and orange. Then I mix it in my mop bucket (as I have wooden floors throughout) and I also spray it around the house, on the walls, curtains, furniture and rugs!
Frankincense granuals are a must, burn on charcoal and add the herbs of your choice. Plus, 4 white candles with a pinch of salt in each corner of your room is another goodie!
Wolves and big black Ravens around the house are also great! (You've all seen Hitchcocks 'Birds')!
I'm new to this page and I think it is SO COOL!!!
Love n' stuff!

wow thanks for the sugestions everyone. I too use sage and quite often there are black panthers patroling my house, tho that is only when I feel nervous since I have a mini one at home. I never really thought of using sigils on my doors, I'll have to try that!! Also I am creating some knot magic to hand on my door.
Brightest Blessings,

I like using an oil blend for this. It doesn't show but it's still there where it counts. It won't scare the neighbours as much as painting the sigils on with paint.

lol but isn't half the fun scaring your neighbors? :evilway: j/k That is a great point, hiding the altar is enough work. :)

Don't you paint the sigils on the inside? Then just never invite neighbours over... ;)

I usually prefer Frankincense, Myrrh and a touch of cinnamon incense in a nice smoking cauldron. (:D But then I tend to be one of those anal retentive ceremonials at times :D )
And will come up with some sort of chant (similar to Mist of the Sea's) and go around the house with it.

I find bad energies collect when I never leave the house, or never go anywhere new; anybody else ever notice this?
Dagda Moon~Lily

I have noticed this. ....and I notice it in winter too. I think it's because in the winter .....and when I'm playing the couch slug, there's no new air ventalating/circulating in the home. It's the same stale air.

Can you explain this about the wolves? I'd never heard that you shouldn't have them in the house/garage. I don't have them in the house, but that's because I've got sigils and my house gets cleaned fairly regularly... at least once a month to 'reinforce' my protection. I also don't invite too many people over - I have a small circle of friends who are always welcome, but I'm a little weird about inviting people over - sometimes people leave nasty residue, even unintentionally.

Me either, WolfWoman.
But then I don't really even try to control what kind of spirits wander through here, unless they're nasty towards me or mine.

It made me a little nervous at first, considering they're my totem and protectors!
I keep my house sealed up pretty tight, I'm into my 'space', but sometimes there's a revolving door when I'm sleeping and then I have to do a mean sweep of the place. Last week as a matter of fact, I actually had to call to a friend for help cuz I couldn't shake what was hiding out. I had to vacate the premises for the weekend (no biggie, spent it with a friend) and she came in and cleaned it out... nice to have friends that can help ya out when you don't have the strength to do it yourself! (had been ill)

Do you set up spiritual protection for when you sleep?
For instance I keep a perma circle around my entire apartment, and then Magestya recommended that before I fall asleep I envision myself enveloped by white light for protection as well.
The latter is because I'd been having nightmares and wierd dreams but I think it's a good idea for anyone who has problems when they sleep.

You know, I do, but since I do alot of my 'traveling' at nite, sometimes something follows me home. I've been under a lot of stress lately and I know when that happens to me, I'm a little distracted and sometimes I'll 'miss something'.
I'll try the white light thing tonite, can't hurt. Thanx!

I was reading your thread and I noticed that you are an empath. About two years ago, I have just started a new job and one thing I really enjoy is meeting new people. Well to make a long story short, after being there for two weeks I bumped into a woman who was on her first week. She looked very sad and depress. She looked liked she was crying. I asked if she was alright and she said that her step Father has just passed on and her ex husband was giving her a lot grief and she wasnt sure if she could do this job. (Oh forgot one thing...for as long as I can remember people who I did not really know, were some how compelled to tell me their life story...which I know is a blessing). ..So I did my best to calm her down . I asked if there was anyting i could but she no but it was nice of me to listen to her. She gave me a hug and went on her way. Well the next morning I woke up feeling like the world was coming to an end. i felt I had no control over my emotions, I really didnt know what was wrong. by the end of the day I would start to feel better. This happened off and on. This past summer was bad. it was the worst. This point I thought there was something really mentally wrong ....Well on day this past July my wife had a nervous break down. I didnt see it coming, until I realized after speaking with her dr, that she was keeping her feelings in and when I heard what she was going thru I was feeling about a month early....I realized that everytime i was near someone who depress or when i go out i can really pick-up the good vibes of crowd and just float along with the happieness. Could I be an empath ? I apolojize for being long winded, but this is the first time i am telling someone about this. ( this i luv this community..i feel welcomed :)...Well thank you for time.......Peace

Yup.
To be an empath basically means to pick up on the emotions of others, and often they can affect you very profoundly. I hope you can learn how to control it better and how to drain the leftovers from your body. There's some threads around here somewhere on that I think, if you do a search.

Thank you Myst...I am now just starting to learn how to control the emotions i pick up from others...I will take a walk thru the woods, I find that shuffling my Tarot Cards helps or i will go somewhere where i know there are happy people.....But I will search the threads for more info...again thank you....Peace

until now I had'nt thought of doing a clensing of my apartment. My neighbors create a lot of negative energy (yelling people downstairs, drug dealers beside) it seems like a good idea!

i never thought about putting pentacles on the ceilings before--great idea!
i probably would have had a better winter if i had cleaned more often--i do agree that its just not as nice without breezes flowing through the place like in spring. this fall i had to do a major whopping cleansing after an icky permanent houseguest moved out.
for cleansing, i use a sage stick placed in a circle of dirt lined with quartz crystals. the chant is always a song with galdr-sounds or abstract words that i make up as i go with the outflow of sparkling banishing energies. i move about each room deosil, presenting the smoke and invoking the Elementals in turn, making the whole place a sacred space. i always have uplifting dreams that night. . .
do any of you specifically clean out your place before major rituals or sabbats and esbats?
i don't use any overt warding or protection over the place--im able to block out neighbors' energies, and anything icky that walks into my apartment trespasses on my spider web. . . .
but then around here there isnt much spiritual activity. . . just void and nothingness in between the lines of quiet trees

I'm another one who cleanses and smudges when it "Feels" like the time is right. Usually, after something negative happens, or when I feel like i'm in a particularly negative mood...I feel "Prompted" to do so. Sometimes, even when nothing negative has happned, or my mood has been just fine, I do it. I just "feel" it is time. I use the elements, a candle for fire, salt and water, and incense, and go around all of the windows, doorways, and the rooms. Sometimes, I'll create mini altars in each room, with the elements, for the same purpose, Sometimes I use Frankincense, sometimes, Rosewater. Generally, whatever feels right at the given moment. I really enjoy using Rosewater sprinklings though. That is probably my favorite. I don't use sage too often, it makes my cat cough alot. Oddly, frankincense doesn't seem to bother him. Only sage. I used to use it often though.
Anyway, I usually chant something while sprinkling, or smudging...to the effect of...
"My home is my sacred space,
Bless and protect, and guard this place.
By the Elements of Earth, and the Power of Sky,
Protect it by day, and when the Moon rises High".
:)
I also have various magickal protecting symbols about the house. Pentacles, Besoms, Figures of Cats, An Iron Horse Shoe, Faeries, Gargoyles, Witches Balls, and Angels, all strategically placed at various points in my house, in windows, and above doorways. To add a little to the protection.
I also think of my cats as protection, as well. And oddly enough, At least ONCE a week, while I'm changing their water bowl (I change it every day, but I do this specific thing once a week), I place a quartz chrystal in their water, and let it absorb some of that energy for a little while, before removing the chrystal, and giving them their water. Kinda, filling them with extra energy :)
