pardon my french, but that's just a bunch of bull-doody. cards are like blank slates until you put your energy into them. buy them anywhere you find a deck you connect with. if a store creeps you out, then don't get anything from tht particular store, would be my advice generally. but if a store has good energy and you like the people who work there and/or own it, why not buy cards or anything else there?

i told him i have read so much things on it for 1 year and i never ever come across people saying that your deck need to be blessed or cursed and he's reply is:

him: some more all these are very spiritual thing
me: so u get all these information from books?
him: so you need some kinda blessing for these to work

he sound as if he knew alot about tarot....
something like this :

T shape and pyramid shape, spread is jargon, jargon is the topic technical term, spread also have different power too.....
and what if it magic, then you need magical power.
if it magic trick then you need to know the trick

i was totally confused...

this is how i explain to him...

me: u charge it with your own energy
me: so that it will work better
me: if it is blessed or curse by people
me: it won't work well with you
me: because it had people's energy field
him: no matter how good the deck is, it won't work if your mind is not clear
me: and you actually need to clear it
me: yes
me: that is why there's the need for meditation

did i explain it correctly to him?
hope he really understand what i'm trying to say... _inabox_

honestly, there is no right or wrong approach to tarot, but it seems like he's been watching too many cheesy horror flicks... you did a pretty good job of explaining things... tarot reading is basically about the reader, not so much the cards... it reflects how the reader is feeling.. you can't just get a deck that has been "blessed" or "cursed" and automatically be able to read them. it takes time, starting with a fresh deck, handling them, getting the feel for them, pouring your own energies into them that makes them work the way they do... you seem to have a pretty good idea, and i think you did a decent job of explaining things to your friend... you will run into people like that occasionally, and sometimes you just need to smile and nod and get on with things... i was doing tarot readings at a school thing, and one of the parents came up to me, asking me if any of my decks were "real". after trying to explain that there are several different decks out there, none are really "real" or "fake", he just looked at me odd, and walked away...

I have heard similar things before too, and I don't believe them ... I do think that you should be careful when using tarot cards though, because it's kind of like you are opening a portal ... although, I agree that much of tarot reading, comes from the reader, rather than the cards themselves ...
But, my deck was given to me ... and tarot sort of followed me into my life ...
Anway, hope that helped ... don't let your friend scare you ... :)

That's just ridiculous. I got my cards from Kinokuniya, frankly because no other bookstore stocked them. They work fine.

MM ~ He gets what he gets, doing whatever he does, you get what you get. The cards speak to everyone on their own level.

A lot of people consecrate their cards, I've done it, so I can see where the blessing comes in, but I don't understand the "or cursed", I mean, what is the reasoning? "O cards, may you never find peace unless you blah, blah, blah..."

Honestly, the guy sounds fishy to me, like he's playing that old "I have the True and Most Powerful Keys and you have squat" game. (This is where you're supposed to go, "O Most Powerful One, I am nothing, go ahead and use me"...Yeah, right.) Or, I could be wrong. Best way to find out is to question him. If he's all bluff, the holes should show quickly.

American Tarot books and culture are sorely lacking (have you noticed how most of it seems to be for beginners?), he may have a better way. But I doubt it.

PS The cards are accurate without "cursing" them. Keep an oracle journal and write your spreads down. The information is always there, even if you misinterpret it at the time.

well, if he wants an old tarot deck, he might try looking for one at a thrift store instead.

and to tell you the truth, he sounds like someone who hasn't done his research.

I agree with what's been said. His information sounds flawed. Like when you're rtying to explain yourself, he suddenly changes his mode from your cards to your mind? be careful of this friend.

no offense, but that's kinda stupid. accuracy comes from putting the right energy/clearing out the wrong energy from your cards... and knowing how to read the cards well.

Well,i hate to sound like a broken record, but my cards was a gift from the Goddess.

I was bummed out one day not to long ago,and went to a book store, and wasnt even thinking cards. So,when I was looking at a deck of Fairy Festival cards,to see what they looked like,I opened the box,and three cards fell out at my feet,in a row, turned over. So,I kept them seperate, and put them back in the bow,and bought it.

The three cards were the Ace card,Ariel, and 2 Fairy Festival Cards,Samhain and Midsummer.

And this was the day before Halloween that this happened. So,I felt a strong urge from the Goddess to buy them and to read and study the book.

i'm not sure i'd go looking for a tarot deck in a thrift store.. .the cards DO carry energies, after all... and i'd rather a fresh clean deck in a shiny wrapper that i got to put my energy into than one i had to first cleanse ...
