This November we have a Black Moon. For those who are unfamiliar, a Black Moon occurs when there are two dark cycles of the moon in any given calendar month. It is believed that the second dark moon of a time of great power within the spiritual world and any magick worked during this time is especially powerful.

This year, we have a Black Moon on November 30.

I heard of it before, but never really understood its significance. Blue Moon everyone knows...Black Moon is kind of new.

From my understanding it is a great time to work on "shadow issues", like insecurity, weaknesses, or other things like that.

Is anyone familiar with rituals assocaited with the Black Moon? I found one that is developed for a coven, but I am solitary... so.....

What are your thoughts?

I agree that it's a good time to go inside yourself and do some work.

This is also refered to as the Sidhe Moon, and when it does occur it adds intuitive powers, psychic energy and wisdom of the Mysteries to that 3 day cycle. It is also a particularly good time to work with and honour the Sidhe, hence the name.

Because the Sidhe Moon is associated with the Otherworld some may go the extra mile with extra preparation like fasting through the day and a full ritual bath (using lavendar, linden, marigold & rosemary) as part of the preparations.

Altar would be to the West, with a cloth or either lavendar or grey.
Candles again lavendar &/or grey
earthy scented incenses
milk, Faery Tea, cookies, bread and honey for the Simple Feast and offerings.

Cleanse circle as usual, but for casting & Quarters go Widdershins starting at the West...

I cast this Circle in the name of the Lady (and Lord) of the Otherworld, to be a place between the worlds, in a time between time, on a day between days.
May only love enter within.

W-I request the Light between the Waters to illuminate & protect this circle.
S-I request the Light between the Fires to illuminate & protect this circle.
E-I request the Light between the Air to illuminate & protect this circle.
N-I request the Light between the Earth to illuminate & protect this circle.

Consencrations, blessings etc...would all be in the name of Lady (and Lord) of the Otherworld or the Queen (and King) of Faery.

You may want to including this as well...
I affirm my joy of union with the Divine in all realms and worlds and acknowledge your blessings upon me.

Meditations, workings, divination etc...

Opening the Circle...

Lady (and Lord) of the Sidhe, I am blessed by your presence. Please watch over, guard and guide me, here and on all the paths I may follow. I came with love and depart with love, and honour the Lady (and Lord) of the Otherworld, where the spirit is nourished with song and joy. May the dance be ever-moving and the song never-ending. So Mote It Be!!!

W-I thank you Ancient One of the Light between the waters, and fare thee well.
S-I thank you Ancient One of the Light between the fires, and fare thee well.
E-I thank you Ancient One of the Light between air, and fare thee well.
N-I thank you Ancient One of the Light between the fires, and fare thee well.

The Circle is open, but never broken, may the lessons of the Fae remain in my heart. Blessed Be.

*Notes
Lord is in brackets as I myself do not usually include Him.
The framework of this ritual is actually by Ann Moura, but adapted to my personal preferences.

is it different than the new moon then?
It is the second new moon in a month, so... no it is a new moon. However, it is considered especially powerful.

Do you think it will be a good time to cleanse and bless my new pentacle?
for me it would depend on what energies you prefer to work with, for those that work with the Darker forces of nature or the Fae it would be great for this, any others I might suggest waiting for the Full Moon on Dec 15th.

omg.... how you know that?

The exact timing of the moon depends largely on where you live on the planet. I use Lunabar, a free program, that will take your latitude and longitude and tell you the phase of the moon exactly where you are.

Here in Orillia, Ontario the moon isn't new until 10:00 AM December 1st, so it's not a black moon at all until the second new moon in *December*, which is the 31st.

But that'll vary depending on where you live.

What do you use in your Feary Tea?

Our new moon in Texas isn't until Thursday Dec 1st. That makes the black moon for us in December on the 31st. :)

If your using the Navy's page you need to add or subtract your hours for where you are in the world sense they list the times as universal. Texas is a 6 hour difference which changes the day that the new moon falls in.

To understand Universal Time and its application here is the link for explaination: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/UT.html

ty both, i should have mentioned that, I am just too fuddled right now to be thinking straight and that link is great ty again!!!

What do you use in your Feary Tea?

Faery Tea: Saying as put into pot

3 tsp black tea (Earl Grey): Black for power,
A) 1/2 tsp chammomile: apple of night,
C) 2 tsp dandelion root: wild grown root
B) 1 tsp elder flower: And Lady's blessing
A) 1 tsp hops: Hops for joy
A) 2 tsp mullein: Then between the worlds;
B) 2 tsp raspberry leaf: Tangle of bramble & faery knots
B) 1 tsp rose hips: Kissed with love,
Brewed to invite the Fair Folk to Tea

*Notes:
recipe is from Ann Moura
A) I substitute all the A's with Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea
(Spearmint, Lemongrass, Valerian, Chamomile Flowers, Hawthorn Berries, Tilia Flowers, Orange Blossoms)
B) I just use the teas not the actual flower or leaves
C)I use fresh dried and ground mugwort as it is also a "weed" and I have it growing in my sill
So 5 teas and a weed all toll
But I still use the amounts and say the sayings as I add them

um...I'm confused. The Lunabar tells me the Black Moon rises here in Decatur, GA at 6:17 but I'm not sure if that means earlier today (wednesday morning) or tomorrow, Thursday morning. Also, somewhere else it says it'll be up around 10....do they mean 10 am or pm? and on the navy site posted above it says Dec. 1st @ 15:01...what does it all mean? I feel bad cuz I just found out today that this was a "special occasion" (Black Moon) and I wish I had known earlier so I could plan my ritual. Is it too late? Do I do it tonight or tomorrow and, if tomorrow, do I have to do it during the time they tell me to or any time of day tomorrow? I'm lost lol.

You don't have to do anything at all. It's optional. If you want to celebrate an esbat ritual in honour of the Black Moon, then do so. If you don't or can't, don't get upset about it.

Your Lunabar should tell you exactly what date and time the New Moon is at under the Moon Phases tab - that's the little one on the tool bar that looks like the Earth surrounded by a dotted orbit line.

When I set mine to Decatur, GA it tells me that the Moon is going to be new December 1st, at 10:00 AM - which means it's not the "Black Moon", since it's not happening as the second new moon in a month.

The "Black Moon" will be December 30th at 10:11 PM.
