My parents used to be part of a fife and drum corp. As a matter of fact....that is where they met. They both play the fife. I used to go to all the parades around when I was a kid, and to all the musters with them.

are usually known as Drum and Bugle corps. It is marching band to the next level. All Brass and no woodwinds. And but of course, drums and color guard. I am part of Jester Corps and it is very fun!

Well, Mistofthesea...I guess there are two differen't KINDS of drum corps then. Just ask my parents. Who were part of the Rebels, a fife and drum corp, that dressed in Revolutionary war costumes, and played yankee doodle dandy and other patriotic tunes on their fifes, and drums. My Mom and Dad, were both pipers, my aunt, another piper, and my uncle, a drum major~:) Maybe it's just a New England thing :)

Several people I marched with in high school went on to march(and WIN) at DCI. We had a big connection to Santa Clara Vanguard and the Raiders. (not the football team!).
Most of our instructors had marched with them at some point.
I was a guard member in high scool, but I stopped after that.
No way was I going to spend my college years living on a bus! ;)

I was in a drum corp. well, it was really a marching band, called The Blue Phantoms. We were basically the marching band for the local FD. I played the bells. When I moved from that town to the town I eventually went to high school in, I joined the h.s. band, but I never really could master the synchronisty moves. Plus I had to learn to read music, because in the blue phantoms, the songs were "spelled out". Instead of sheet music, it was written out like: A A B C D, etc. with the lyrics under the song. Cheesy, I know, but I had fun.

~~Nyx~~ I used to get dragged to the DCI competitions all the time. My father used to be a high school band director. He would go to the DCI competitions to get marching show ideas. We also used to have a complete library of the shows from various Drum & Bugle Corps. Those were what I first thought of when I saw this tread.

:) I am planning on going open class and marching Sata Clara Vanguard at 18. My goal. My brother is going to try for SCV or Cavies! *sigh*
But for now being part of the only Div.2 corp in Canada is good enough for me!
:D
