For those who are familiar with Hindu and/or Christian traditions:
Do you think there are any similarities between what the Bible calls "wisdom" (Sophia) and what the Hindus call Shakti or Devi?
Do you think the writers of the following passages were inspired by Hindu wrintings like the Vedas, or at least knew the idea of Shakti?
Proverbs 1:20 Proverbs 1 Proverbs 1:19-21:
Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares;
Proverbs 4:6 Proverbs 4 Proverbs 4:5-7:
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
Proverbs 7:4 Proverbs 7 Proverbs 7:3-5:
Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman;
Proverbs 8:1 Proverbs 8 Proverbs 8:1-2:
Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
Proverbs 8:11 Proverbs 8 Proverbs 8:10-12:
for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

I haven't devled into Hindu studies yet (The Religions teacher at my local college is the most close-minded Christian I've met, so the teaching isn't as fruitful as it has the potential of being).
But one thing I did learn, is that most religions are developed over time. Stories are told, and travelers retell them to their people. There are constant similarities between religious moral teachings because there is a basic human moral code.
I guess the fact that people across the religious sphere see many, base and fundamental beliefs in the same light - is another reason for tolerance. The fact that most religions were created by humans basically ensure that there will be flaws, but if you could break every (almost) religion down to a one-sentence belife system, there would be many zealots shocked at the similarities.
The last thing I want to do is start an arguement - and I am fully aware that no one or thing, or religion will fall perfectly into my little analogy, but I hope you get the gist of my little soap box.
OK, I'll get down now, before I slip up and break my little pagan neck.
Blessed be and happiness to all who seek it.

I think they are one and the same but to get most people in the conservative Christian world (and I have come out of that world within the last 3 years) to admit that.... well it would never happen. Too many foundations would be rocked to the core if they realized that what they say are the only true teachings actually existed thousands and thousands of years before the first recorded thing in the Bible supposedly did.

i think the two ideas stem from the same essence, but that the Hindu conception is much more approachable/usable and powerful than the watered-down biblical version. Shakti is associated with the most powerful Hindu gods, and also the demon-slayer goddess DURGA, she-beyond-reach.
