I read that and wanted to be sick. I don't understand how a person could to that to a child, and then want a say in whether she lives or dies. Some people disgust me.

I saw that this morning on the news :heartbrea I hope the doctors decide what they feel is best for that little girl, and I hope she goes peacefully as it sounds like there is no chance for recovery. As for the man(the woman has since died, believed to be suicide),I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars...what he did was unforgiveable.

by all the gods, this man makes me sick. it is such a tragedy that this little girl was so sorely mistreated, and that no one thinks she will ever come out of it...

I think she should have the tube out myself. But, reguardless I don't think her parnets should the right to make that choice for her. It should in the hands of her doctors to decide whats best for her now.

As far as I am concerned the only one who can take away life is the Divine. She brings you into the world and takes you home again. It is not anyone elses decsion to make.

Well I'm a tad confused. If the girl dies because of the beating he gave her he'll face murder charges. But when this is a purposeful death(as in someone ordered it, in this case a judge) would this man still be given murder charges. So that part is fuzzy to me. But either way he has no say what so ever. He beat the poor child. I think he's just worried about those possible charges if the plug is pulled.

with things like these, peole are too stuck on technicalities. well, people stop feeding peole yet it is not 'suyicide' or 'murder' but giving them a shot and/or taking them off life support is its the same thing to me. i think keeping someone alive in suffering is worse than letting them die.

Nobody really comes off sounding too smart there. Even the doctors sounds like idiots.

Both of Haleigh's doctors agree she should be removed from the ventilator, but they are split over whether her feeding tube should be disconnected.

They have said that with her feeding tube alone, Haleigh could live as long as two months. Without any life support assistance, she would die much sooner, the doctors said.
They actually think that if she's going to die anyways they might as well drag it out as long as possible?

I think that yes, he will face murder charges if she dies after life support is removed. I'm not sure about the Law in Mass, but here in Washington that would be a murder case (speaking as a paralegal). The rationale behind it is that he caused the EVENTS that lead to her death, i.e., he beat her so badly that she couldn't survive without life support, which leads to the question, how long would she have lingered if there were no life support measures taken. I think that he should be locked up for the rest of his life with the face of that little girl painted on every wall of his cell, so that he has to look into her eyes every day for the rest of his life...:fprisoner

As to the mother... she sure took the easy way out didn't she? :grrrrr:

As awful as this is, we had one here where the mother and stepdad beat a toddler to death, then tried to burn the body in the bbq to get rid of the evidence...

I pray that this little soul finds the peace in the next life that she wasn't granted in this life.:wah:

He beat the poor child. I think he's just worried about those possible charges if the plug is pulled. Yep, I agree. My neighbor was beaten and left for dead, and while he remained on life support for a couple days, the swelling and damage to the brain were so bad that they could not repair it, so once his family all got there, they pulled the plug. The man who did it was then responsible for and convicted of murder.

Because the beating was the direct cause of death. The life support only prolonged his dying. The fact that he couldn't live, breathe on his own was what killed him, not the fact that they stopped forcing his broken body to breathe. It's the same kind of issue as the case in Mass.(The doctors want to *let* her die, not *make* her die, that man is the one who made it so she can't live), and I don't think the States really differ on it.

I CANNOT IMAGINE a kind of legal system that would allow this man to make the decision about pulling the plug on this little girl. If she has no next of kin (what about cousins??) then she should be considered a ward of the state, and the state should make the decision. This man has no business in it. He beat her. He just wants to keep her alive so he won't be charged with murder. That's exactly it. And it's horrible.
