Yes ive traced my family tree back that far, and it took almost ten years. But i encourage others to follow suit and to explore their roots so that they have a grasp of their past as well as their future. It gives a purpose and meaning to know where your family originated from. Thats my Paternal side , now on my Maternal side Its strictly Irish, oh boy how many years will it take me to discover the rich heritage from that magickal land of Eire?

how on earth did you manage to trace your family back to the dark ages? id have thought anything beyond 1000 would be nigh on impossible due to a lack or records.

with a lot of help from the german church system, and the legal system i found out my family originated in Heidelberg and the Mayor and a few judges were related to us. The records do exist back to around 1400, before that there are lists of Important people in the Village of Heidelberg that go back to 900 Ad.

The maternal side of my family tree has been traced back to the late 1400's (to my best recollection, I don't have the book handy to verify that) to Rintje Lautenbach. My mother's side of the family is Frisian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisians).

I'd am extremely interested in how you got aid from the German church system because I'm stuck in the 1800's with my dads side of the family from Germany & Belgium. I need major help to go back any farther, since I don't speak German or Femmish who the heck will I ever get any more info from before they immigrated?

Thanks I'll email you about this soon like tomorrow morning, can't now because I'm at work. I found a VerHeyden in Antwerp, Belgium this summer and he said he tried to look up info but was not allowed access to any info. Not sure if it was a lie or not. Some names in my German genealogy include Roeill & Mueller.
