Or brownies, or fairies, or something! (I haven't gotten a good look at them yet.)
My DH and I just bought a house. It's an older house, all sorts of idiosyncracies, windows on the inside but not on the outside, you know the sort of place. The lady who lived there was an elderly Christian lady, liked everything in its place and just so. Well, we went down into the basement, which I don't think she used much, and my daughter said the far end of it felt "creepy", so we decided to do a house cleansing and dedication at our Yule Circle, which was last night. We banished a very unhappy camper from the basement with the elements and sacred herbs and music, and announced to the room at large that any "beings of good will" were welcome to stay. The place lightened up immediately.
But later, while we were all in the living room, we heard rapid footsteps coming up the steps from the basement. Whatever/whoever it was, it investigated the kitchen and paused on the other side of the (closed) door to the dining room where we were. Now, we had been listening to celtic instrumentals, but at that point the CD changed to Christmas music, and we felt a vast confusion as the whatever realized we were playing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo". It was a bit nonplused by our apparent respect for the Wee Folk, but our playing of Christian music. So it retreated back to the basement. When we left the house (we're not all the way moved in yet and are still sleeping elsewhere), we left a bowl of eggnog for them, since we didn't have any milk.
I don't know whether these are European-type Wee Folk or Native American ones, but it's going to make it interesting living there, that's for sure! I can't wait until they start riding the cats!
We've already had something that disappeared in the new house show up again. After we'd looked everywhere.
Have a wonderful, blessed Yule, everybody!

I have a strong feeling they are Irish.. as I started reading your messege i got that tingle feeling and the almost tattering sound of voices..
something about the eggnog having or not having any liquer.. i swear this is the oddest thing.. but i think they are irish, and bitching about there not having been any whiskey in the eggnog!
Course, it could be just my spirits here yapping in displeasure at the whole ordeal.. or it could be hearing yours. Either way there are some pissy pixies around *knows shes not going to hear the end of it for that comment*

I love being irish *giggles*

Good sign, up untill you realize as your talking aloud that your suddenly speaking in tongue, and that someone is chattering back.
I seem to get all the antsy spirits. *sighs*. They never scare.. they've just always got a gripe. *rolls her eyes* They remind me of my grandfather.

Oh, boy. I was hoping that wouldn't be a problem. Well, I guess I'll stop at the liquor store on the way home. Whiskey, you say? I don't drink, I don't know these things!

Nope, still a good sign. Provided you only have those conversations alone or in the company of understanding friends or family.. I've been present for those conversations; it's usually amusing, assuming you're aware of what's going on and not under the impression someone is nuts.
It's a bad sign when expensive/precious stuff goes missing (I'm recalling someone who told us about losing her BoS several times, once to find it in her bathtub, while she was home alone and the kids away for the weekend), or when they start pricking and poking you. Of course being chided and teased isn't always fun, but it's not that bad ;)

I had a problem with my wee folk riding the cat until I started leaving them 5 shiney new dimes every week. Since then the cat has been fine but I did discover that they were hording a few odds and ends in the couch last night. I was moving the furniture around to wash the floor and noticed that the bottom of the couch looked full. When I opened it up there were a pair of shorts, a hat, a few hair elastics and a deck of cards. I hadn't really been missing any of these things so I put them back and resealed the bottom of the couch. Go figure?:p

my mum is always joking that we must have "borrowers" (expression taken from the book by the same name, of course) or something, because there is one corner of our house, and it happens to be where our kitchen, basement, and playroom are (each on their respective floors) that you will put things away or set them down for a moment, get sidetracked, go do something else, come back, and whatever you put down will not be where you put it. So we'll look all over the place, and finally we'll glance over at where we swore we'd just set it, and there it will be.
I've also found that my sister and I tend to misplace our thoughts in that corner of the house too. We'll be talking to someone and walk into the kitchen and suddenly forget what we were thinking or talking about altogether. Its really weird.

I have a Brownie in my apartment. Actually saw him twice at my former residence and I had announced loudly that I was leaving when it was time to move, because I wanted him to come along LOL. (He must have, as he never cared for my ex-husband who is still living in that house). I also have a few fairy folk that visit. They are courtesy of my friend May, whom I would swear is a fairy herself. They like to hang around and eat my Reese's LOL
They also had a propensity for swiping my... I kid you not... fancy-schmancy Victoria's Secret undies. *sigh* I could have done without that one! But I asked them to stop that because that stuff is expensive. I'd rather have them eat the candy :)

I lack the knowledge in fairy lore. I believe they exist. I leave them milk on Esbat, however, everything else, I'm clueless. A comment intrigued me. What is exactly "wee folk riding the cat?" and how can you tell if they are. I'm curious to see if that's what's been going on with my pretty kitty these days.

wow sounds like you've got some playful folk there;
I find that having cats around seems to keep them out of trouble. The easiest way to tell is when you see your cat pouncing into the corner of the room, or something of the like :D
they ain't so bad, but their connection to this world tends to be reflective of where they're manifesting (has to do with the inbetween and aetheric fields), so the cleansing thing you did probably lightened up the moods.
if you think it's connected to the house though, they can get rather territorial sometimes; if you leave something in "their" space they may decide to "borrow" it :elf:

I am in the process of building a house, and some of the weirdest things have been happening. I can recall on one occasion while working inside I realized I didnt have anymore nails, so I went to go get some outside the house... well they werent there, and That boxs is too heavy for me to pick up, let alone carry. I went back inside and the box was right next to where I had been working!!!!
I was working alone, so I know it wasnt anyone elese... What ever it was seems friendly and helpful, its never done anything too bad, and always seem to try to help. I hope they or it stays when the house is completed.
Anyone have any ideas as to what they or it could be? I have never seen anything, just the moviement.. and humming, sometime I will hear humming and ask others if its them and they think its me! Its a happy tune, kinda catchy!!!:D

I think the phenomenon referred to as the "kitty zooms" or "kitty madness hour" when the cat just takes off and starts running about madly for no apparent reason has also been attributed to housefae riding them around like horses. Sort of like a steeplechase, I guess. If your cat watches or stalks invisible things, it might be fae.
An acquaintance of mine told me that her grandmother used to leave milk (just a spoonful) every night in a dish in her garden for the fae, along with a touch of honey, liquor or a cookie on "special" nights. She also used to mutter something when leaving the gift, but my correspondent doesn't remember what it was (the grandmother died 20 years ago).
So my DH and I have been leaving eggnog out every night, with a little creme de cacao added on Yule (and apologies for the lack of Bushmill's). At Ostara, when the garden starts to wake up, I will start leaving milk for the outdoors fae as well.
I came thisclose to seeing one the other night. It was scampering up the stairs ahead of me; it was sort of like a heat shimmer about a foot tall.

and they live with us. I'mn not sure what you'd call a group of faeries but I have quite a brood of them who follow me everywhere.
Litlith's giggle (their word not mine)of faeries wave hello to everyone at Mystic Wicks
Either that or I'm going mad. :D
But I love them all regardless. Even when they pinch my tea.

Hi there! New here, sorry to just barge in, but this thread really intrigued me.
I have one, too! I just found out, MOF. There's a little faerie-type thing in my new apartment, who hangs out in/around the doorway between my living room and patio garden. It took me a while to figure it out: my stuff kept disappearing, and I didn't know why. I can't see him/her/it...I usually don't see these things (and wil be working on that), but a friend of mine identified it for me. The last couple of days I've spent learning about them, in the hopes of finding out more about it, possibly meeting it or talking to it...and of course, in the hopes of getting my sneakers back :D

I have a few 'little guys' in my house too. They're pretty mello, but occasionally they get really frisky and torment the cat and dog. They'll pinch the dog by his tail, but the cat will just sit in the middle of the room and hoowwwwwwwlllll... kind of nerve wracking at 3 am! They'll get really active and frantic if something is going to happen or if a person they don't 'care for' (i.e., someone who's an 'open door') is paying a visit. They'll knock things over and shake things on the bookshelf... they seem to like to play behind all the 'stuff'... I leave dried breadcrumbs with parmesan for them on the porch for them and they come and go as they please.
I have one who I've fondly named 'greyboy' who likes to show up when I'm showering!!! Little perv...
