This is my first class in the regular COT so I'm going to wing it and try to be as responsive as possible to your needs as students. I figured that since we were at the start of the class, we'd start on the basics. For this course you will need:
Yourself
A Pen or Pencil
A Notebook
Easy so far :)
The notebook is not just for taking notes on this course, it's also for you to document predictions, dreams, etc. The reason for this, is that it will give you an idea of your progression and will also give you a paper record of where you started. (If you're like me, keeping this diary is probably the hardest thing you'll have to do in the course ) When you review this notebook, you must make sure that you're honest with yourself about what you've recorded. The only way to become better at energy work is to be honest with yourself, and recognizing where you need work.
In this class, if you have a question, no matter what it is, ask it. I want you to know that it's okay to ask any questions here. If you feel that uncomfortable, you're always welcome to pm, email, or message me about it to discuss it privately.
Ok, now that those basics are over...
I'm calling this first lesson 'Common Ground' because I think it's a good thing to see where we're all coming from before we start with the more difficult lessons. Some people are coming back for refreshers, or to see new techniques. Some don't know anything about the subject at all but are eager to learn. All levels are welcome here.
Your first assignment is to tell me what you think energy is, how you think energywork works, and how you think this class will help you. You should also be writting down in your notebook each of the assignments. They can be as long or as short as you like, as detailed or vague as you like. You should date the entry, with date, time, and your mood each time you write.
Also if you have any prior experience with energy work, please let us know.
That's it for this class! Next week we'll have the first exercise type assignment!

Energy: the force that composes the universe. Matter and energy are the same substance just at different... vibrations? It’s hard to put into words. But Energy is within all things, and as one who believes the divine is a part of all things, I believe that Energy is a part of the Divine. It can not be destroyed, but can be directed by our thoughts, by our Will, and can be transformed by the same.
Quantum mechanics has recently begun to discover that particles on a subatomic level conform to what the scientists believe they will do. So, if a scientist is expecting a particle to spin clockwise, then it is. If the scientist expects it to be stationary, it is. This is an example of their Will affecting reality.
That is what spells do, allow us to focus our thoughts on energy enough to be able to affect the objects and concepts around us.
Energy work is a major part of this, learning to shape and transform the energy of the universe, and to send it out with a specific task in our minds, be that healing or protection or some other task.

Let's see... energy. Everything is made up of energy. And there's lots of energy in the world that we can't see, but that is just as real. For example, my aura is just as real as my physical body, even though I can't see it. Not all energy is the same - it is fundamentally, but it takes on different qualities depending on what it is at that time. A rock is different from a tree, a body is different from an aura, and my aura is different from, say, my mother's aura. And the energy that makes up things like auras is a lot easier to work with than the energy that makes up more physical things like trees... but I don't know why that is. This energy, as I see it, is a part of God.
Energy work is manipulating energy - moving it and changing it. Depending on the kind of energy you're using and how you're working with it, it can be more physical, like what we're doing in the Psychokinesis class, or it can be like spellwork but more direct. I'm not sure how it works - I know it does, but it seems like it shouldn't. I'm pretty skeptical by nature.
How this class will help me: I can sense energy some, and want to know how to be able to do more things with it. As for the rest... *sigh* I don't like admitting this. But you did talk about honesty. I'm a reluctant psivamp. I know I still drain people unconsciously sometimes. I figure, the more I learn to work with energy, the more I'll be able to keep this from happening. (I've already noticed this since I've started working with energy in the Psychokinesis class.) Also, because of this, while I'm good at drawing energy in, I'm pretty bad at sending it out. I'd like to fix that.
I don't have much experience working with energy. I tend to send out intentions rather than doing actual spells, and it often works well... maybe that counts. And we're making psiballs over in the Psychokinesis class. And there's the psivamp stuff - figuring out how it works, and trying to figure out how to switch it off when I need to.

Energy is the "substance", for lack of a better word, that everything is made of. Heat, light and matter are all made up of energy in different states. This energy is in constant flux, moving from one place or form to another.
Energy work is the intentional redirection of the flow of energy, typically in order to accomplish a specific goal. But it can be just for practice.
I'm hoping this class will allow me to gain a better understanding of energy manipulation, and improve my skill in this basic component of magic work. I have done some basic energy manipulation, but not enough to be really proficient.

I think energy is the start of everything, nothing can exist without energy.
Energy is everywhere, but it doesn't always have to be visible, energy can take a wide variety of forms from something you can touch, from something you can see, to something you don't even notice.
Energy is some kind of vibration which can move.
Energy work can help people to harmonize the flow of energy through the body and to help to find a balance. It can promote the healing and well-being of the body. Energy work can help to restore the a disrupted energy flow.
At least, I think
I don't have any experience with energy work, but I can sense energy in certain situations. I'd like to learn how to understand energy and which influence it can have in health, life,...

I think that energy is what composes all, matter and what makes it move or live... all, and that it cames from the Divine, that all energy belongs to it (even us). Like Einstein said I think that it can't be destroyed, it only can be transformed, and that we, with our will, can cath some of that energy and transform it to beneficiate ourselves.

Energy is what everything is made up of in the universe, from light to matter, things seen and unseen. What makes each different is the different vibrations each has, similar to musical notes, or colors. Everything in the universe is connected through this commonality of energy, and therefore, if we know how to manipulate the energy, we should be able to manipulate things or situations around us, that is what I think energy work is.
I think this class will help me because it will show me how to manipulate that energy.

What is energy? Energy is what makes it possible for everything to exist in the sense that without energy, I don't get up in the morning. Energy is required for living, breathing, working, growing, changing from one thing to another. Energy is essential, though it comes in many forms. It can be changed into different forms. it can be hot, it can be cold, it can be light, it can be electricity, it can be many forms and can change between forms. If it has a true form, if that's even possible, I don't know what it is. It is everything in Creation, it is the Gods, the plants, the birds, us, the planet, rocks, soil, bacteria, everything. Matter combines with energy to make ... solid things. OK, that's worded badly. Matter is what helps energy make a solid form, but matter and energy are not necessarily found together. Am I making sense here? I'm sort of writing off the top of my head. You don't always need matter to have energy. Or do you? Hmm... And now I'm confused. I was never good at physics. ><
I think energy work is all about learning to use the energy that is everywhere and do things with it. I'm kinda new to it all, I've been pagan for 5 years and yeah, I haven't done any energy work, or not much of it. That's why I'm wanting to do this class to understand better how to work with what's all around us. I want to be able to use it, feel it, see it. So yeah. Hope that's ok.

Wow, how do you put this in words! ;)
Energy is a combination of many things. It is the “hum” of life. Without energy, there would be nothing. Energy is in everything. Everything has its own energy and energy levels and frequencies.
I believe that energy-work is the ability to control the energy within you and around you to influence will.
I think this will help me to be able to harness my energy and use it in positive and healing ways.

Energy is the substance of all things in the universe. All things are composed of energy and without energy we would not exist. I know that is very simple, but right now I'm sick with a cold and I can't think straight, so please bear with me:) .
Energy work is the ability to re-direct or change energy (I guess, manipulate?) to achieve a specific goal.
My mother taught me how to work with energy as a teen, but over the years I've let life's distractions get in the way and I need to re-focus my energies. I'm hoping this class will help me re-focus and gain some fresh understanding of working with energy. I hope that makes sense!

Energy to me is the life force that resides in eveything in the universe. I liken energy to the remanents of the big bang that are scattered throughout the universe. Its everywhere, in everything. Its whats needed to live each day.
I'm not familiar with energy work (which is why I'm taking this class), but I would think its the use of our energy. Actually manipulating it for whatever use we need it for, like sending positive energy to a sick friend.
I'm in this class to learn something new. To get a better idea of energy and how it is used and what it can be used for. I have always been able to sense energies left behind from others whenever I go someplace I've never been before so I'm curious about it.

Energy is that shiny stuff that oozes from our astral pores. It's the icing on cakes, the air, water, fire, motion, calories, words. Energy is a ball held in the air. Energy is living and dying and breathing and laughing and everything else you could mention. ever. times two.
Energy is. energy is mortal and deity and thought and supposedly cannot be created nor destroyed. Energy is auras, and that tingling feeling at the base of your spine and firing synapses and the strength in a baby's clenched fist and a heartbeat. It's focused will, and lightning, and ocean waves, the product of fusion or fission, the decay of molecules, combustion.
Energywork is working with energy (:graduate: ) using energy of any kind for a purpose. Be it threading chi through the body or folding chakra energies into cake batter, starting a car or singing a baby to sleep. Each requires work and work requires energy. Energywork for this class, I'm assuming, is using 'spiritual' energy alone, or in conjunction with physical energy for a purpose be it healing or any other possibility.
I've worked a little with chi, a little with chakras. I have a grasp on at least the idea and theory of leylines and understand charging. I've passed energy to people, and know how to 'lift' energy from people. (I guess that's like psychic vampirism in a sense, though I see it more as calming a situation if things get too worked up.)
Am I right in the least?

I have little or no experience with energy work, but I'll try and answer the questions as best I can :)
What is energy?
Energy is all around us, and everyone has their own energies. It is kind of like spirit - it is in everything, where ever you go - places, buildings, people, animals, the natural environment ... it is their connection to spirit or the divine. Energy can be positive or negative, certain people or influences can drain your personal energy. It's kind of hard to describe ...
How does energy work?
Energy works by connecting you to the universe, or the divine. It can work by being passed from one thing to another - like the scientific energy. Einstein believed that energy could never die - it could only be passed from one thing to another - which is why he believed in an afterlife - since Human Beings are made up of energy. I used to know a person who practiced Reiki - which I believe is connection to the energy of the universe.
How do you think this class will help you?
I think that it will help me to learn the basics of energy - how it works, how to use it in my daily life. I am a person who often feels energy drained - so I think that it will help me to combat that. In general it will help me to learn more about energy work!
I hope that's ok ... :)

Your first assignment is to tell me what you think energy is,
Energy is movement. Without engery, nothing would move. Energy is Life. Without energy there is no "spark" of life. (Producing an affect) Energy is what holds everything together. Energy is connected to the power that makes everything work, be it the power to run our cars, or the power to move the galaxies in the universe. It is also the strength of expression; a force of utterance, power to arouse the feelings, life, spirit
how you think energywork works,
Energywork is vibrational. Just as sound waves (which are vibrations) can change things, break objects, even move objects, energy works the same way.
how you think this class will help you.
I think this class will help me to more easily recognize when I've raised energy. And help me to better work with it.
Also if you have any prior experience with energy work, please let us know.
I have had minimal experience with energy work. I believe on a few occassions I have raised a significant amount of energy, but I need to become more in tune with the process to know for sure.

Energy is the stuff that fills ua and that we can use to change and adapt the arcane. It is what you feel in storms, and the winds. What you see in fire and water, and all of the things involved in the use of Magick. It is what keeps us going beyond the normal levels when we are stressed.
Energy work is the what I do when I have ritual or when I ask for healing. Though I have not really done any "specific" energy work - and by that I mean, me actively saying that I am going to shift energy in this direction from that direction. The energy work I have done is usually a side effect of my prayer-ritual.
I am taking this class to better equip myself as a priestess. I have alot of people depending on my skills and not only do I need to understandall the "in's" and "out's" of this, I also need to know how to explain it to the others that follow me.

Energy is the basis of everyting, without it, we would not exist. I am having a hard time trying to describe it, so if this post seems a little off, please bear with me. Everything has it's own specific energy. I have the ability to read peoples energies. This can be a little overwhelming at times. I feel the negative, the positive and the sadness, lonliness, etc of the people around me. This is very daunting to me personally, when I read their energies, at times I tend to take them on. It is very hard for me when a negative energy is present. I tend to feel overwhelmed when this occurs. It can be very oppressive at times. I try to stay away from those that I know are consumed with negativity. Energy influences us all in very different ways. I belive that we all have the ability to redirect the negative thus causing it to become a positive. This is why I am taking this class, I want to learn how to redirect the negative energies so that I don't have to avoid certain people. I feel that the people around me could benefit from my learning how to redirect the negative. I stay at home as much as possible right now, there is so much negativity out there this time of year. Everyone is caught up in getting just the right thing for each person on their list that they don't even realize the negativity that they are projecting.

Energy: I think energy is everywhere since everything is made of it and that there may different forms of it like elemental energy e.g. water, fire, air and earth, electricity, bio energy and psi.
Energy work: I haven't done much energy work before so i'm a complete beginner. I've done a tiny bit of expanding my aura and generally feeling it out. I've also did some work with my 3rd eye chakra which i read on Witchcraft From the Ground Up (on www.whywiccanssuck.com). I didn't open it fully but i could defently feel something there. I've also done a bit of tai chi and i think chi gung and yoga (although i want to start doing all three again soon).
What this class will do for me: I think this class will help me feel out energy, charge up, charge things like maybe talismans, etc, draw energy like element energy or other things, manipulating energy and maybe making spells more powerful. Also helping me too feel the energy.

Hmm, this has got to be a tough question for me. I have sat on this one for a couple of days and still can not come up with an answer proud to post. I have not done any energy work before (that I know of anyways - enough to put a name to at least). I have signed up here to gain more knowledge. I love to learn.
Energy is us. It is who we are. Energy is all that is living and all that is not. Regardless of breath and bloodflow, there is always something running through it. It can drain us and make us whole.
That's about all I have. Maybe I can give a better answer at the end of the class :graduate:

Mood: Tad sad.
What I think energy is
Within a magical context, well I don’t know. I know what energy is within its original physics context, so I’m gonna start there with qualitative descriptions and try and apply it to magic.
Energy is the measure of the amount of work you can do. Work is anything useful; a raised rock has enough energy to do the work ‘crush your skull’. When talking about energy you can’t get away from talking about forces too. Forces are the external causes that make objects behave the way they do. So back to my falling rock, it’s the force of gravity that GIVES the rock its energy. It’s also the force of air resistance that effectively saps some of the rocks energy; energy is useful work, we want the rock to crush your skull, so slowing the rock down isn’t useful, therefore one way think about it is negative energy.
So within a magical context, perhaps there is one ‘magical’force, as yet unknown to science. Or perhaps there are a number of distinct forces that interact with each other, similar to how electrical and magnetic forces interact. These ‘magical’ forces I believe are interacts somehow with gravity. No one really knows what gravity is, we know it behaves in a certain way, and relationship with the mass of the object, but that’s it. I read about special equipment that measures and draws the electromagnetic field around a person, apparently when Christians pray this field changes. So if you consider prayer and magic to be similar to one another, then its likely magic will do some weird things to a person electromagnetic field too.
How I think energy Works
Energy doesn’t actually do anything, its forces that actually do stuff; but that’s being very semantic :P Well, again I’m assuming magical energy is obeys the same fundamental laws of all the other energies known to science. You can’t create nor destroy energy – First law of Thermodynamics. If we could just create energy then it would be possible to become greater than the Gods. The first law of Thermodynamics also syncs up nicely with the concept of drawing power/magic/energy from the Gods/Mother Earth, etc. We aren’t actually creating magic, just drawing some of that natural energy and shaping it to our will.
Again, applying the same laws as ‘normal’ energy, magical energy and mass are one in the same – E = MC^2. So if you some how were able to draw upon some uber energy source, in theory you could create stuff. Or in reverse convert matter into pure magical energy.
Stepping back from a scientific perspective, I also believe there is a kind of like spiritual energy which the divine/universe can use to guide you / try to bend you to its will.
How I think this class will help me
First up I really wanna learn how to shield and protect myself against harmful energies. I also want to know how much we as an individual can do without divine; a lot ‘I did it by God’s grace’ to me seems more like people giving credit to God for something they did themselves.

I'm a very new pagan so I have little experience with energy. I think that energy is that invisible force that is present in absolutely everything, and it's all connected. Energy is what allows us to think and feel and move. It's the "life force" of all living objects. Because all things once came from the earth it's present in inanimate objects as well.
Energy work involves manipulating energy. Giving a tug on something's energy sets a chain in motion that can alter outcomes in many other areas. It's very complicated, and I almost find it overwhelming to think about. Manipulating energy is really what magic is based on.
I could be totally off base here :S

Friday December 16th
10:23 A.M. or so.
Mood: Tired, exhuasted, worn out, burnt out, and other such adjectives.
Energy is the underlying "medium" with which everything is made up of.
Energywork is the concious direction of said energy, for constructive/destructive means. Its works by manipulating the surrouding energy in your body/enviroment and directing it towards a said goal.
From the class I hope to gain a better understanding of "seeing" energy, and some practical use for my energy, rather than just shuffling it around at random.
Prior experience: I read Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics, and have yet to use anything astral in the book, however his energy techinques were quite useful. I'm lazy when it comes to "work" so I haven't devoted the time I really need to, but I have done most of his basic excersizes, I have my own personalized grounding and centering techniques I use, I like to think I'm intermediate at manipulating MY energy, not that I really ever "use" it for anything except during mediatations. I have NO experience with viewing energy, I just have never really understood "seeing" it. *shrug* I can shield myself, as well as others.
Its just odd, I can see any energy I create, or within myself, and any that I "send" out, but I can't see anything I don't "create".

What I think energy is: The capacity for work or vigorous activity; vigor; power
How does it work: Energy can take many forms. They work in different ways. How do I work with energy? I have energy to do work such as physical or mental. However, I work with other energies as well. Natural forces or energies I have worked with such as wind but nothing severe. I guess for energy work there needs to be the one that does the work and something that responds to it.
I think this class will help me develop more skills as far as energy and more structure not just randomness/chaos.

Energy:
Energy is a measurement of work, where work is defined as the result of the application of enough energy to perform some task, such as to heat a certain amount of water to 1 degree Fahrenheit higher than it was before, or to push an object one foot from where it was standing or to fuse two hydrogen atoms into one helium deep in the core of the Sun.
In other words everything we do and everything that goes on around us can be thought of as work and energy is the measurement of the effort that goes into performing that work.
Energy exists in many forms. There is potential energy, which is the amount of unreleased or captive energy that is in an inert object. Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by a thing in motion. Electromagnetic energy which is the energy contained in an electromagnetic field. Thermal energy is that which radiates off a body which has a higher temperature than the other things around it. A fire, or car engine that's been running for a while, or a living being that is radiating away excess heat as a result of the processes that keep it alive.
"Energy Work" is a bit of a mixed metaphor perhaps, but to me relates more to the work that you do to move energy around from one place to another rather than using it to do what people think of classically as "work".
As living beings, we all produce a significant amount of energy, mostly electromagnetic and thermal in nature. This doesn't stop right at the edge of our skin though, but continues some distance away from the edge of our actual physical body.
Energy work would then seem to be all about manipulating that energy around our person and around our environment.
I have done a little bit of energy work and some very basic exercises on how to generate and manipulate it within and around myself, but am still very inexperienced in how to do so externally or how to pick up on energy emanating from others, places, things, etc. and what to do about it I don't really have a good sense of where I "am" or how I affect others energetically or the energy environment around me.
I'd like to come out of this class being more aware or attuned to these things.
So there you have it, a bit rambly perhaps, but I think mostly coherent.

Your first assignment is to tell me what you think energy is
I believe that energy is the core of not only us but the Goddess as well. Our energy makes us who we are and how we will react to situations.
how you think energywork works,
This one Im not sure on but the way I see it in my head is that energy is still a thing of substance and we can use it accordingly. Like a glass of water kinda. If you know how you can find ways to use it even with out it being visable.
and how you think this class will help you.
I would like to be able to help more people and to be able to keep my own energy levels high.

energy: energy is the matter between all molicules.its the force that composes the universe.

To me, everything is made up of energy. It's the life force behind what we see, think, and feel. Physical objects have energy. Thoughts have energy. Emotions have energy. This post has energy.
Energy work makes us more aware of the energy. It allows us to have more control over what energy we send out, and what energy we let in. It will also help us conserve our energy for when it's really needed, and properly distribute our energy. Hopefully it'll help us understand how this energy is affecting us and the world around us.
This class will give me a good structure off which to fully develop my awareness. Being an empath it's hard to constantly be in-tune with MY OWN energy. So hopefully this class will be a good assistant to my spiritual growth and level of awareness.

Monday at 12:45am and I am in a contemplative mood.
I believe that energy is part of everything. It takes energy to move, to think, to see. It takes energy to breathe and exist. I believe that stones have energy, that dirt, plants and animals and people are all comprised of varying forms of energy. Love is energy. We are all beings of Love therefore we are all beings of Energy. I do not think that I can explain it more fully than that.
How does energywork work? Our thoughts are energy - and if we think or believe or will something hard enough we then use a strong enough energy to creat that very thing we wanted. I think that is why it is important to watch our thoughts (easier said than done) and try always to think positive so that we are bringing positive energy towards us.
What do I hope to get out of this class? hopefully enough knowledge to be able to answer this question more completely and accurately :) also a better understanding of how to use energywork to my advantage to be able to fulfill my purpose in this lifetime.

Energy work - I've done very little, a few spells & making some energy balls.
What I want to learn here is how to be more receptive to energy on top of the usual class stuff like directing and receiving energy.

Energy is just that, energy. Energy, combined with matter, make up everything we know, love it or hate it. It also entails use of itself, for use in spells, meditation, healing, etc. Energy is what you make of it, lol.
As for past expirances, ive managed to create some psi-balls/energy balls. I can also create/blow smoke from my mouth, if that counts for anything, lol.

what you think energy is
From a scientific standpoint, energy is physically transformed matter. Einstein's famous E=mc2 comes to mind. Or it just can be the energy you get when you eat (nourishment). But that is only one kind of energy - there's also mental energy (which gets you out of bed in the morning).
, how you think energy work works
Actually, I don't know, that's why I signed up for it. All I so far understand is that you can learn to be capable to direct energy on a "quantum" level. (I used quotation marks because that is the way you can explain what happens from a scientist's point of view.)
how you think this class will help you
I hope it lets me understand things I so far only heard about, sort of a Energy Work 101. A friend told me things about shields and other things and I'm a bit the skeptic who can rationally believe that it's possible, but still remain unable to make that leap to comphrehend how it works.

Energy: The building block of everything, it is needed for even the most basic functions. In science, you learn that there are two types, kinetic...and one I can't rememeber right now. Kinetic is used for moving things, ect.

I think that energy is something that can’t be grasped or held, but can be used. Everything has energy and uses it in one way or another, even plants and rocks. My mind keeps drifting back to when we went over potential and kinetic energy in science class, how everything has potential energy that can be transformed into kinetic with the right push. But when I put my mind to a more spiritual and less scientific mode, then I see energy as something that varies within each element and person. The energy of water is directly opposing the energy of fire. Ack, it’s hard to explain what I’m thinking…
Energy works in many, many ways. The most common way (I believe) is when you concentrate on using your energy, thus allowing you to use it more effectively, perhaps to even use more of it then you ever thought possible. It can also help people to balance out if used correctly. If used incorrectly then it could just as easily do the opposite, cause people to become off-balance.
I believe that this class will help me to actually get a better grasp on what I think of energy and how it works. It should also help me to understand how to ‘use’ it more effectively, or something like that. I’m not really 100% sure, I just feel like learning this will do me good. As to my prior experience with energy work… all I’ve done is psiballs and learning how to control my unconscious drawing of other people’s energy.

I'm going to go back and read other people's responses...but here goes mine.
I think there are different types of energy. Heat, light, sound, etc are all different forms of energy. Energyworking for this class, and in magic workings to me seems more along the lines of astral energy and/or energy one gets from the astral. This type of energy really cannot be seen, only felt. Since energy can not be created or destroyed, a person can only harness the energy around them. I think magic is just bascially energy manipulation.
Energy work, to me, is just basically that: working with energy. It is learning how to harness energy and manipulate it in order to achieve specific goals. Energy work and spell work are really closely related to me.
In this class, I hope to be able to learn to harness energy easier to use in my spellworkings. I really do not have a lot of experience when it comes to spellwork, so this class will help me out a lot.

can we fine tune this to physical energy? Emotional energy and 'the vibe' of a room or place can be destroyed or coaxed into being. Most often changed, but at least I think it can be destroyed. Like a really great party and then the one person with the grey cloud over their head rains all over the dance floor and people slip and break their noses. metaphorically speaking.

To me energy is simply everything, energy is the most advanced part of an object and it is also the most basic building block. Energy is present in everything, even in things we can see and energy can be felt and manipulated by anyone if one only has the concious thought of it. Energy works by its own will, but can also be used by one using a concious effort to use energy. I've worked with energy for years now, but I am taking this class as a refresher course and to see if I may be able to learn something new.

It's never static? Or is it? Like, it's constantly moving around. So in a sense energy work and magick is all about helping move that energy where we want it to go. Directing it to go where we want it to go. It can be controlled and directed, which you have, but I don't think it's static either. I think it's always moving at some level. Even atoms and electrons are moving. The nucleus of an atom is moving. Surely energy is always moving. Well, it makes sense to me. Does that make sense?

Where I come from/level:
Well I've had several Reiki classes several of years ago (however they weren't terribly good classes). I can feel energy with my hands but I can't 'see' it. I'm an empath...I guess that's energy...but not manipulating it. I can feel auras and chokras...but I don't necessary understand what I'm feeling.
Tell me what you think energy is:
I don't know...it just exists. Its all around us.
How you think energywork works:
It would be playing/manipulating the energy that is around us. (I'm definitely entry level here!)
How you think this class will help you:
I'm not sure because I'm not sure what I can do in manipulating energy...I know that I have helped people with Reiki (had some really bizarre results)...but I just ran the energy. I don't think I was really manipulating it except clearing and spinning up the chokras. I guess what I'm looking for is knowledge. Since I've worked a little bit with energy I want to learn more...know what I'm doing and what else can be done.

I agree with everything except 'cannot be destroyed'. So I have a question to clarify it. When I select stones...some stones are 'dead'. They have no energy. It was my understanding this was due to negativity such as negative mining of the stones. That due to this the stones loose their energy. Is this then not true...that the stones never had energy in the first place?
Briana
Kaylara
December 30th, 2005, 05:34 AM
If the stones had a negative charge, you'd still feel a charge though. You don't stop feeling the energy just because it's got a negative charge. They've probably been cleansed (wiped clean of any charge that they may have previously held.) or hold such a faint charge that you're not picking it up. The way to see if they actually do hold a faint charge is to give the stones energy (not negative or positive) and see what comes through.
Energy cannot be destroyed. It can be changed, manipulated, dispursed, but never destroyed, because the energy of the universe is a constant mass.

Well, I've avoided reading the other replies in this thread because I didn't want my response to be influenced. :)
I think energy is the connective force of everything in the universe. It cannot be created or destroyed (good ol' physics concept from school- thanks Ms. Peterson) and can pass between many different materials, people, objects, and can change to different forms. It manifests in many forms whether chemical, mechanical, physical, emotional, aural, electrical, heat, etc. It makes bonds between what it touches and passes through. I think the clearest example/analogy I can use is the energy between people, whether emotional or even sexual. The way a person can walk in a room filled with anger and everyone else can feel it, the energy, the emotional force. It can be controlled and used for certain things, certain purposes and can be directed-- in the same example, a person can direct their anger towards another person who obviously feels it and is affected by it, even in silence.
what else was i supposed to answer?
experience I've had: I'm not entirely sure, but I believe I've the ability to feel others' energies and auras. I feel emotions very strongly, even from strangers, perhaps why I was so comfortable using that analogy/example above. I am usually able to guess what a person is feeling (not thinking necessarily) because I sense what emotios are running through them at a given time, even if they try to hide it-- for instance, I can feel if a person is sad or depressed or angry inside, even if they don't say anything or keep a smile on. I guess that's experience enough, apart from my own energies inflicted (sometimes unknowingly) upon others.
what i expect from this class: to clarify any msconceptions i've had about the concepts of energy, to gain the knowledge and ability to positively manipulate my own energies and control them better, also to more clearly be able to sense other energies, esp. spiritual ones, when they are around me and clearly distinguish between them. Also, to be able to better focus my energy, in grounding and centering, etc.
I guess that's it.

I mostly agree, but I want add a little bit. Physic's are nothing more than models used to describe how the universe works. At the moment, our current models explain how things work fairly well (the earth spins around the sun because of gravity), but not the why of things (what the hell is gravity ?). E=MC^2 and thus energy can neither be created nor destroyed may not necessarily be true in all circumstances.
So metaphysical energy might follow the laws of conventional physics, or it might not; we shouldn't assume it does until we prove it so. Light is a good example from normal physics, about 100 years ago it was known light was a wave. Therefore like all waves it had a medium of propagation, the Either. Two physics set out to find the direction and speed of the Either; Since the earth is spinning and moving through space the speed of light should of been slightly different depending on which direction you shot a beam of light. They found no result and Einstein later came up with quantum theory with explained that light was both wave and particle.
Moral of the story: Physics doesn't know everything, and sometimes assuming something based on how other known things work leads to incorrect conclusions.
What do you mean by "Holds a different charge depending on the material it's in" ? In the physic's sense A charge of an substance is caused by an excess (negative) or shortage (positive) of electrons. So you can only have 3 charges, positive, negative or neutral.

As far as I'm aware, energy is that substance that is within and without every piece of matter - regardless of it being "living" or "dead". It cannot be created or destroyed, and so, it is recycled through time and space.

I'm not sure I totally understand the "basic vibration of matter" you defined energy as. Would you mind explaining that part a big further?
Thank you.

Sorry about turning in the assignment a little late. _inabox_ I believe energy is everything in and around us. All matter, whether solid or in any other form is composed of particles that are themselves energy. Particle and energy at the same time. This is what science has taught me. As for me on a day to day level, energy is anything that comes and goes in the form of emotions, physical power, vibes around people and places, electricity, heat...
I think the flow of energy brings about events and makes things happen. One form of energy may be more useful than another in a given situation. Energy influences actions due to its nature. Positive energy can bring about good things and negative or blocked energy can cause stuckup situations and harmful events. By correcting the flow, as in replacing such an area (body/place) with healing, positive energy can restore peace and harmony.
As I write this, I have so many questions crop up in my mind and I hope to find answers in this class. I have been using grounding techniques and Reiki for some time now. I would like to be able to sense energy much better though.
Thanks Kaylara for starting this class. :)

Alright, there we go!
Everything consists of energy, both that which we can detect with our 5 ordinary senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin) and that which we cannot detect with them.
Energy can be manipulated. This does not mean that we can change the form of matter whenever we like to do so. Everything has a little source of energy. Humans as well. We can retrieve portions of that energy and use it. We can also put energy from the outside and refill our source. This is basicly what sleep&rest are needed for (other then for physical replenishment).

The basic vibration of matter. All things have a different vibrational state. Solid things have a very low vibrational state, and so they are solid. Liquid things are less cohesive and thus they flow, and gas molecule have a very high vibrational state and have almost no cohesion unless the molecules are concentrated. We don't recognize that our desk is in a constant state of flux, slow, but it's there, the atoms, molecules, particles moving ever so slowly towards a new state of being, and there in lies the energy, coming from the friction of the particles as they interact.
I highly suggest that people check out the super string theory site that Godez provided, it's not a difficult read, and has a lot of good information.

I think that energy is what makes up the world around us. Kind of like the atomic particles, but perhaps even smaller and ore invisible -- but of course, just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not real. I think that we're energy, that there's energy in every living and non-living thing, that there's energy in the air, and that perhaps even God himself is a form of energy. Perhaps energy could even be defined as spirit.

Energy is everywhere and in all living things. Even inanimate objects have energy, though they can hold energy, they can't create energy. I believe that only living organisms can create new energy, or atleast regenerate lost energy. Energy can not be destroyed, but it can be molded, manipulated, and transformed into a different vibrational state. Energy is everything and resides in everything.
I have a little amount of experience with energy manipulation, but not much.

Personally, I am capable of reiterating everything that I have been told that energy is. I can sit here and rattle off the ideas how energy is the substance of all things, how the vibrational frequencies determine how a person place of thing appears to us, or I could even go on to describe some other elaborate explanation that might actually seem like I know whatever it is that I’m talking about. Yet, that won’t aid in my development or growth and is in part the reason I am here. Even though I’ve worked with energy, felt it flowing though me, felt it in the life around me, and even taught people the generalities of what it is and how to feel it, I still haven’t come to a solid conclusion that feels entirely right to me.
For me, understanding comes through the application of knowledge. I am an experiential learner. I pick things up by doing them, rather than theory alone. So in lieu or explaining what I believe energy to be, I will instead share several experiences related to energywork and we can go from there.
Throughout my childhood I unconsciously played with energy, but it wasn’t until around my sophomore year in high school that I actually recognized it for what it truly was, and didn’t simply attribute it to the imagination of a child.
Two friends and I were hanging out and we were seeing if we could guess the cards of a playing card deck, and we had varying degrees of success. Through trial and error we learned that our chances of guessing correctly were greatly improved if the one holding the card and asking the guesser would picture the card in his mind and concentrate on that image.
No naturally the improvement in the game sparked out interest in how this could be used and improved, and since we seemed to be doing a form of telepath I went home and did a little light research.
After sifting through a few role playing websites I finally came to a website called “Playful Psychic” (http://www.psipog.net/activepsy/contents.html). So I printed out the basics skills portion of the site and brought it to my friend’s house.
Naturally, being the impetuous youths that we were we saw no need for the basics of shutting down, grounding, centering, or even really drawing energy, though some of the skills we were interested in included the last one. So we jumped right to the psi balls and psi shielding.
Initially, we all made our separate psi balls at different times and we put our hands near it and felt the energy that each person had. This is when I learned that our energy is unique to each one of us. One of my friends energy seemed to emanate a strong heat related energy, while my other friend’s felt more staticy, and they described mine as sort of a magnet pushing against a magnet.
So after our experimentation on our own, we sat in a circle and decided to each make one at the same time and then when we felt as though we had given it enough energy we each placed it in the middle and in our minds visualized them combining and the one left would remain stationary floating in the center of the circle, all the while we still directed energy through our selves towards this ball in the middle. After about five minutes we were all satisfied with its place and existence in the middle we each passed a hand through where we had placed the ball and we could still feel the heat generating from that point. It was pretty friggin’ cool.
That same night we also experimented with shielding as well. We pictured many different elemental forces (however fire was the main one we kept returning to because it gave us the most powerful and quickest results, but ultimately took more to maintain) surrounding us completely and then added energy to it as much as we possibly could. We had two people standing face to face with about three feet in between one another and then had the other person walk through to see whether or not you could feel it, and it was a definite yes. However, after doing this for a half an hour or so, my shoulders started to hurt as if I were bearing the weight of the world upon them, and each of us felt sufficiently drained for a good week after that night…and so I learned the importance of the other basic skills that we had decided to toss to the side earlier on.
Also a few weeks after our first experimentation, the same group of friends and myself walked into the woods behind Brendan’s house. This would be one of the most moving experiences I’ve had and would help direct my path from there. We always heard the term “tree-hugger” and we also knew that each living being held some sort of energy, so we literally went into the woods and hugged trees. At first I had expected each tree to have pretty much the same energy, as you would expect from most inanimate objects, however this was far from the case.
Each tree had it’s own unique energy, it’s own personality so to speak. Some of them felt motherly, others felt lonely, others felt like children, and yet all were more than happy to share themselves with us…except fro one tree, which I got a very negative tone from before even approaching it.
From this I cultivated a deeper love for the woods than I had previously held, and it lead me to do more research on trees spirits and how to communicate with hem…which I’m still in the process of perfecting. It’s been an ongoing learning process of the power of life, birth, and creation as well as the completion of the cycle of death and so forth, which I’d be more than happy to share at a time when it wouldn’t be totally off topic.
I have also experimented with seeing auras, but can never really get passed just seeing the white mist beginning to form around the person or thing, aside from trees, which I usually get a reddish hue from their leaves.
There was also the time that I had forgotten to water the apple tree that I had been growing, and it was wilting and dying and seemed beyond saving. So after giving it a good drink of water, I place both of my hands on the side of the pot and just my pure compassion for the tree came flowing through my arms and into the pot, it was a very powerful experience, my hands move to the bark and the dying leaves naturally without thought as to what I was doing, after about ten minutes I placed it back down on the window sill and the next day it was as alive and healthy as ever.
There have naturally been many more times that I’ve used energy in the form of shields, psi balls, minor healing, meditation, and grounding exercises, but if I were to go into all of those we’d be here all day.
Also, I have had an epiphany relatively recently that allowed me to finally workout an issue I was having between the distinction between God, energy and myself…and I came finally to the conclusion that all three were both identical and different at the same time and much of it just has to do with how we classify things to be able to understand them on an intellectual level and share them with one another.
I’m basically taking this class to help solidify and complete the foundation that I’ve already begun to lay down for myself. It’s important to me to one day be able to pass what I have learned along to others, however before that happens I want an intimate understanding of what energy is, and not just something that I might be able to reiterate to another.
And now to wrap up I just wanted to post a few quotations that I either wanted to comment on or that I found was an interesting point of view and made me think of things in another way.
Again, applying the same laws as ‘normal’ energy, magical energy and mass are one in the same – E = MC^2. So if you some how were able to draw upon some uber energy source, in theory you could create stuff. Or in reverse convert matter into pure magical energy.
Analog
This thought actually occurred to me as well while I was at work jotting down notes that I wanted to use in my response to this lecture. Since everything has a certain specific vibrational frequency wouldn’t it be possible if one could learn what this frequency was and then learn how to tweak it to be able to create it into some other form?
Prior experience: I read Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics, and have yet to use anything astral in the book, however his energy techinques were quite useful.
LeftToWonder
I actually own that book as well, and I’ve used a few of the beginning techniques that he had, some really pretty powerful stuff. For those of you who don’t want to commit to buying his book he also has it online for free…just follow this link : http://www.astraldynamics.com/tutorials/?BoardID=6 and scroll down a little bit.
Roadknight
Hmm…I never quite thought of it in that light...I like it.
Can we agree then, that energy:
- Can not be created or destroyed but it can change forms.
- Is inherent in everything
- Can be controled and directed
- Is the basic vibration of matter
- Holds a different charge depending on the material it's in
Kaylara
I agree with most everything said here though I do have to second Analong’s point that “So metaphysical energy might follow the laws of conventional physics, or it might not; we shouldn't assume it does until we prove it so.”
Though I can’t give a specific reason why, it’s just something that resonated within myself when I read it and I fully agreed with it.
And I figure that’s all for now…:)

i think energy is the force you keep inside of you that colors all the moments of your life. it affects everything and everyone around you and can be affected by the energy of other people and things that you encounter. i believe it can be channeled to enliven and encourage, and i believe you can hurt others with it. i hope to be able to better focus my energy and to be less affected by the negative energy of others by the end of this class.

Energy work involves understanding the energy that you are working with and using that knowledge to use the energy for a specific purpose.
I think that this class will help me to understand energy better and learn control.

I believe energy to be something not tangible. It is the concerted effort of thought and soul combined to be able to put forth a desired outcome just by visualizing and having belief. Also, it is a feeling that is put out by a person to describe who they are: open, approachable, kind, etc.

Can't say more than what's already been said; energy is everything. It's the force that exists invisibly, basically for everything else to live. I think the fact that everything possesses energy that can deliver a vibe to someone about it sort of intuitively (like reading one's emotions, or the 'feel' of a room) proves that the world and what's in it is beyond physical. Even though energy is physical, but the feelings received from it necessarily aren't... I'm not sure that makes any sense, but it's late, and I'm trying. Words are hard.
Working with energy is developing or sharpening the ability to manipulate it, which makes one more in touch with their surroundings. By working with energy, you're benefiting from what's already there. It raises awareness and understanding of the world around us.
I really just hope to further learn about energy overall; how to use it, interpret it, understand it, control it. I don't think I've had much experience in working with it, though I've given it a shot, but I believe I might have just been going about it wrong. If there is a wrong? Though if there isn't, I'm sure I could definitely find a better way to learn. And I'm hoping this class will provide just that. :)

Energy is something that inside of everything around us, including ourselves. It can affect moods, situations… almost anything really. Everything around us is made up of energy and that energy can be manipulated in various forms.
Energy work can be comprised of manipulating energy and sending it out for a specific task that we have in mind and can also be encompassed in many rituals and spell work.
I do not have much experience working with energy but I’m eager to learn. I think this class will allow me to have better control over the energy I send out because my friends whom are also witches say that my energy is always everywhere. I hear “Cryssi, you’re in Egypt again” at least twice a day. :) So I would like to gain more control over my energy and be able to manipulate energy more.

Energy is the force we all give off, whether animate or inanimate. Some of us "feed" off of it, some of us are just "energy sinks". Some people are more sensitive then others. I believe that reading/seeing/expereincing energy allows some people to be psychic.
My previous expereince with energy involved my boyfriend (TiggerTim) and my friend, J. J and I trade energy during CAPA meetings, and he occassionally catches glimpses of my life. Last week, after absorbing large amounts of his energy, I was awake for about 5 hours, running on full steam, like I had consumed a large amount of espresso. As for energy with TiggerTim, lets just say I experince it most when we are coupling. Also, we seem to have a connection to one another (which J attributes to the fact that TiggerTim and I have been a couple before). I think that's about it.

i think Energy work is learning to understand how it affects our bodies and those surrounding us as well as the environment.. how to try and manipulate or direct its flow or even absorb some of its essence for whatever physical or spiritual purpose
i am always curious and amazed on how energy affects my life, sometimes i notice it more at certain times then others, i would like to be able to understand it better and tap into it, also i hope i will learn from others about their experiences with energy work, just out of curiousities sake_catroll_

Umm..ok...After reading everyone else's replies, I don't think mine is quite as good, but I thought it would be better to NOT read anyone else's answers before I wrote mine, so here's what I came up with:
I think energy is the "essence" of everything: Every living creature and every inanimate object. It is the vibration coming from a human, animal, object, etc., the aura, and the thoughts and feelings perceived while studying the subject.
I think energy works by going in depth to explore an object. You have to sense the vibration, the warmth of the object. I believe energy as a whole works because it feeds off of other energies.
Anyway, this is going to be a very good class. I can feel it. I think it will help me get a better feel of my own energies, which will help me learn more things about myself and perhaps other people as well.
I haven't really had any prior experience with energy work, but I am very intuitive and pick up vibes from people that I meet. I can usually sense if something is wrong, if they are lying to me, etc.

Energy for me is something you have inside you, it is also in the Universe and you can projet it out. Energy is your soul, is the light inside you that shows the divine in you. Energy can be raised for protection to help others (reiki is a use of energy, i think). The lessons can help me to use better my energy and help others!

E-ner-gy: The force driving and sustaining mental activity <in psychoanalytic theory the source of psychic energy is the id>
These are the definitions I found on dictionary.com and those are few of the many they had listed. These are what i feel closest to the subject of raising energy.
When we speak of energy we automatically think of trees, galaxy, world, people, soul. But energy is more than that. Energy is a never-ending cycle of constant growth. Energy as someone said is to "Wake up in the morning, brush my teeth, go to school and do it all over again". To raise this energy is using you're own soul and mind to take *some* of this energy and give it a task, feel it, 'play' with it.
When I think of raising energy I think of a blank canvas. The canvas is energy of its own (me, my energy) When I start painting and creating something new, something with a different destiny or purpose then this is the new raised energy.

Well sadly I haven't been as active in this course as I'd like to have been. What can I say? I always take on too much and then end up flaking out on things. But I'm back!
Firstly, I don't have a notepad at the moment so for the time being I'll be recording my notes on WordPad via my comp. I hope that's okay!(Once I get the real thing I'll transfer my notes and all other entries)
Your first assignment is to tell me what you think energy is, how you think energywork works, and how you think this class will help you. I don't know if I can say exactly what energy is, as in, a explination of what energy is composed of. That being because for my beliefs energy is the core of everything, so truly nothing can make it up to be what it is, it just is. I believe energy is truly everything in existence. Energy inhabits plants, birds, humans, spirits..everything! And even without taking such courses, just living and breathing are subconcious ways of tapping into the natural energy that exists within all of creation.
I truly wish I could give an explination of how I believe energy works. But I can't. It's not something I've questioned to a great extent(until now, lol!) and honestly I don't think I have even the beginings of an answer. But now I will be thinking on this and hopefully I'll be able to add my answer at some point.
I believe this class will help me tap into my own energy as well as the energy that inhabits everything else. I think we can all agree knowing ourselves is a great asset we all aspire to attain. And in some sense, I believe that since energy is(IMO) the core of all existence, knowing energy and how to use it is a part of knowing ourselves and everything else.
But these are just my views...
You also asked if we've had any previous energy experience...I do..
I can feel my own energy quite well and at times(when being directed at me) I can feel the energy of others. But I'm not nearly as adept at feeling others as I am with my own energy. For me my energy feels like "warmth". I can concentrate on using my energy for shields. I think one of my favourite things to do with my own energy is just to concentrate it to both of my hands. To feel that light, yet solid warmth move to my hands and envelope them is so amazing! I really love it.
Also I have at times had limited practice with balls of energy. Acctually I learned that technique from our teacher(Kaylara) ages ago in a chat!

All things have or are comprised of energy. Anything and everything that exists is made of energy. It moves within all matter, sometimes slower than the eye can see, sometimes so fast it visibly creates more energy. Energy moves, grows, it lives and breathes.
Energy feeds off of itself. For some things, this 'feeding' will make things grow. for some, it changes or transforms. An example would be a blade of grass growing daily in its own form of energy and from the touch of the suns. A tree standing for a hundred years, every growing, expanding. That same tree, when chopped down, still possessing its energy, has the ability to change and still grow by rubbing two pieces of it together. The energy with the wood quickens, allowing it's energy to grow at a faster rate, expand until POOF!...the energy transforms, yet is still the same.
I think this class will teach me or give me the knowledge of how I can use energy in the help of healing. How to work with energy in positive ways.

Energy is what everything in the universe is made of, essentialy. I think it is most commonly 'felt' as vibration. Like noise kinda, I guess. It's like the paint that the gods used to create the universe. Without it there is nothing.
Energy work is just that. Working with energy for the good of yourself and others. My improving the energy in and around you, you can improve your life. And so on and so fourth.
I think this class will help me because I really don't know anything about energy and I can only move forward from there.

What is energy? Energy is a driving life force, which everything consists of. I believe that pure energy is what we all came from and after death we go back to the pure energy state in the spirit word. Humans absorb energy from many external avenues (ie. the food we eat, the sun and the moon we live under and the earth we walk upon). I also believe that energy also comes from within each of us, it is the essence of our very soul.
I am new to my path and would love to learn how to raise, control and direct my energy more efficiently. With this basic but profound tool, I believe it will help advance my spell craft and healing abilities and also help me with the more mundane aspects of life as well. =)

what energy means to me? It is the force that is in all things. that is what makes you and I to be....and energy work helps to be able to change a life force to make it better or to grow.
I want to be able to make a difference to spread some postive energy to help others and that's why i want to take this class. Plus to help protect me from others trying to take my life force from me.

I consider energy to be the "breath" of life. Energy comes from the spirit of all things. I believe that all things consist of energy to some degree. All things vibrate at different frequencies because of the life contained in it. So to me, energy and life go hand in hand. That is not to say they are the same thing... but one cannot exist without the other.
When I hear "energy work" I think 'manipulation'. I see energy work as the manipulation or direction of energies towards a goal and/or intent.
I am hoping this class will help me to recognize different types of energy more accurately and be able to show me how to use energy more efficiently towards my day to day thoughts and activities.
