How bad is this stuff really? Most of the drug information I read sounds basically the same, no matter the drug. Is it as addictive as smack? Any other information would be appreciated. I'm trying to determine just how worried I should be about someone trying it.

As with most any street drug, each person can react differently. There are many things to consider. The potency of the drug, what it's cut (or diluted) with etc. The most important thing for anyone to remember is that it only takes ONE time for it to kill you...and you never know if that one time will be the first time you use it.

What else can you expect when the policy is to have a 'war on drugs', so that everything is treated the same from pot to smack? Information? Any notion that one may not be as bad as another? We can't have that, so what if it encourages people to think, well, I've tried pot, so as it's just as illegal as cocaine I may as well try that then ....

LostSheep, I'd advise not to try it!
But that's my opinion and advice.

Okay...I can give you personal feedback on this one. BAD SHITE! I lived in Marin County during the early 80's (then known as 'Cocaine County'). I did coke along with everyone else. ...and I saw so many people go down. One of my best friends had to leave town...disappear...he was dealing and he snorted it all. And he's not the only one. My boyfriend bought an eightball to sell (I wasn't involved)...by the time I got home from work he had smoked it all. Once he and friend actually burglarized a store so he could get money for coke. He ripped people off (not his normal personality until coke). He'd be middle man...then cut off the top to get free coke.
It is highly addictive and anti-social. It may start out social...people giving you a line or two...but then you get to the point that you don't open the door when friends come by 'cause you have a half and you don't want to share. Soon all your money's going to the habit...and you can't afford food, rent, etc (somehow I was able to make sure I had my portion, but my roommates and boyfriend always blew their money on coke...I had to borrow money from my folks just to make rent). I started getting sick all the time because I wasn't getting sleep and wasn't eating. I used up all my vacation time at work for sick time.
Its a downward spiral...trust me...stay away!!!

Physically addicted...I don't think so. But...you can get addicted to the high after one use...if you live through your first time.

That's hard to answer... I would say 'actually' addicted no...but if you're asking if they will do it again until the point they are addicted... It depends on the person, the experience and how accessible coke is to them. Most cases I would say someone would probably do it again if its near.

to cocaine in powder form...no to cocaine in rock form...aka...crack....yes...
Oh..I have a question. What's the difference between rock cocaine and crack...?? I was always led to believe they were the same, and it was called "crack" because of the crackling that it makes when it's cooked.
Q.) What is the difference between crack and cocaine?
A.) Crack is made from cocaine in a process called freebasing, in which cocaine powder is cooked with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to create rocks, chips, or chunks that can be smoked. The term crack refers to the crackling sound that is heard when the mixture is smoked. Crack is usually smoked in a pipe. Because it's smoked, crack cocaine effects are felt more quickly and they are more intense than those of powder cocaine. However, the effects of smoked crack are shorter lived than the effects of snorted powder cocaine.
Cocaine is produced as a white chunky powder. It is sold most often in aluminum foil, plastic or paper packets, or small vials. Cocaine is usually chopped into a fine powder with a razor blade on a small mirror or some other hard surface, arranged into small rows called "lines," then quickly inhaled (or "snorted") through the nose with a short straw or rolled up paper money. It can also be injected into the blood stream.

Oh man...that really sucks! I got real lucky on that one. I could drink gallons of rot-gut liquor...but smoking coke made me nauseous. Kinda ruins the high when you're heaving.
I quit drugs after a bad experience with X (the precursor to today's Ecstasy...nasty stuff). Gave me a 2 hour flashback out of the blue...total bad trip. Ecstasy is another one to stay the hell away from...everyone thinks its a 'friendly, happy' drug...its not. I've seen what its done to people. Severe depression... A good friend of mine got totally depressed then turned to coke, speed and finally smack (then she had to go to a meth clinic). It really screwed up her brain; people tell jokes now and she just doesn't have a clue. I'm not even sure if she's clean even now...

Been there done that, just don't! The thing with coke is it easy to get hooked because lets be honest it's fun, big party time, and you stay thin!
Now the other part, you can loose your job, your friends your family, and all of your money. You don't want to think about what some will do for a line, when their hooked and have no money! and last but not least... each time you do it, could be your last cause it can cause a heart attack, or stroke. So to who ever is thinking about trying it, "just once" yeah...DON'T.

I take it you have a friend who has tried it...and liked it? I don't know what to say, hon. I've tried talking to friends before...and they just started lying to me about using it. If they are bent on using it...
Hmmm...Trainspotting was about smack...there's an old movie called 'Rush' (not the new one) that was about getting real screwed up from coke.
I wish you luck and hope your friend comes to their senses.

She hasn't done anything yet. Many other people I know are doing pot, smack, meth, e, coke, crack, acid, 2cb, dxm, scripts and/or angeldust. I'm not sure I should bother anymore. If they are going to do it then it's not like I can stop it.

I did quite a few drugs when I was young--in my late teens, early twenties. I never did crack or cocaine, stuff like that--I did drop acid, smoked a lot of pot, took speed twice and got sick from it. One time some idiot laced my pot with coke and I didn't know it till I smoked it...man that was freaky and I was so pissed. I stuck with the drugs that I pretty much figured I wouldn't get physically addicted to, and quit when I was ready to quit. Now I barely even drink.
What I have to say about your comment above is that no, you probably can't stop someone determined to try it. But you can at least convey your concern. If they don't stop and it gets bad, you can also walk away from them. Anymore, when someone I know knowingly and willingly ***ks up their life, I simply won't give them any energy to continue to do so.
You have to decide what to do if your friend chooses to get into drugs hardcore. Are you going to stand up and say, "I care about you and I know how dangerous some of this crap is."?
Once you've stated your concerns, then there are really only three options left--not say a word and pretend to ignore that part of their life--and that in a sense enables them to self-destruct. Walk away from the friendship if you can't handle their addiction (because if someone starts in on coke or crack, they *will* get addicted), to keep their destructive behavior from impacting you. Or you could choose to tell their parents, in which case the parents will either be grateful for your help or not believe you, which can be bad because then your friend will find out what you did.
It's really up to you and what you feel able to do, willing to do, or that you should do. Not an easy situation, and I wish you luck.
