Merry Meet,
I was just wondering if any of you knew if there is any connection with Wolves and the Fire Elemental. I have looked on several websites, and even skimmed through my BOS thinking I have wrote it down before. I am SO into wolves, I have collected little statues of them since a kid and everytime I see one on TV or even a picture of one- i just get this feeling like they are there for a reason, maybe to help me, show me something?

Honestly, I've never ever heard of that sort of connection...but maybe somebody else has some insight. :)

Dangit. I had a long drawn out argument from many sources to help you with this and then I lost the whole dern thing by accidentally clicking the banner to the left of the page, haha. No wonder Coyote is my spiritual guide...
Anyways. The whole of my argument was pretty much that eventhough the elemental spirit of fire is the salamander, you can link the wolf to fire by matching their common characteristics of strength and protection. Fire is known to embody strength, not only physical strength, but strength of will. The wolf can be seen in the same light. In chases, the wolf can achieve estimated speeds of between 28 and 40 miles per hour for up to 20 minutes. Not only that, the wolf has powerful jaws capable of generating 1,500 psi pressure (YOUCH!). This is a testament to the wolf's strength, not only physical strength, but strength of will as well (sounds a lot like fire to me... ;)). Wolves are pack animals. Their protection of the pack is a well known trait of this animal that I probably don't need to elaborate as much on.
I'm not saying that Fire only represents strength and protection. I'm not saying that Wolves only represents strength and protection, either. But herein lies the answer to your question. I think in these aspects, you can sense a connection between the wolf and fire. Hope this helps.
May wisdom of the Foretime be with you, in Day and in Dark!

Fire is also likened to the concept of extroversion, for it is vibrant, commanding and captivating, very easily blending into and taking control of social interactions, and the wolf is one of the most social creatures in the animal kingdom (not the loner animal so many think it is; most wolves in fact die if exiled by their pack).

They're actually a mixture of all the elements, like everything else, but I do not see a strong link to Earth as I do with Fire. If it is in the social structure, I'd liken that to each Element in regards to how it functions.

I can see where all of you are coming from. I also have thought they are connected with fire due to their qualities...and what they stand for. Like, about protection - I think that is one of the MOST important things a person can have...if you are not protected, you tend to get hurt..and thats never good. And, with strength, its something that sometimes I have a lot of but most of the time I am looking for strength..It always seems to me that wolves are so mystical, and that they are trying to tell me something..show me something perhaps. How interesting..Oh I could just go on and on..but I wont commit all of you to that! LOL But you better believe the thoughts are running throughout my mind! LoL. Well, I have had several instances where wolves have shown theirselves to me in meditaion, and in just everyday thought and life you know...maybe I should just follow them..listen to them.. OK,, thanks to ALL of you for your help :)

Wolf is associated with the quarter of South; so the connection can be made...

Even if every person says there is no connection, how could you honestly agree, if in your heart there is?
So if you feel a connection, there is one for you. And what ever feelings the 2 bring out is what they mean to.
Follow your heart, your spirit. It knows what is right for you. :)

I believe they can encompass all the elements, if looked at especially. Sort of like how humans can attribute the elemental correspodences to themselves.

I feel the same way about wolves. They are my totem animal. Wolves are everywhere around me in my house. I have even gone so far as to have my license plate personalized to WOLVEN1. Now that's dedication!

All things correspond in some way to all elements. So naturally people will associate certain things with certain elements more so than the other. When I descide the elemental alignment of something I consider its nature. How it lives and behaves.
The nature of a wolf is to dwell in the forrest and moutains. The wolf lives in barrows, small caves in the earth. The wolf uses the earth to comflague itself. By all means the wolf is an earthy creature.
But this is just how a wolf corresponds to earth. Wolves behave a lot like fire. They are playful and ruthless. Compassionate and violent. They consume life and breed more wolves, like a spreading fire
But the wolf moves fluid to its enviroment. Its an elusive creature that can out manuver its prey or evade danger. In this way a wolf could correspond to water.
And wolves are also intelligent - Air.
Earth is the first element I associate with wolves. But the wolf can correspond to all elements and the element one chooses to align to wolves should reflect the nature of one's magick and change as needed.

Wolves are awesome, they can run like 35 miles a day in pursuit of prey, this gives them staimina. They're also pack animals, yet the wolf totem (or so I believe) teaches the importance of freedom, with the responsibility of caring for loved ones.
It is also a path finder, a teacher and a guide towards sacred spirituality. Wolves are naturally very sensitive and intelligent creatures too.

I've always been very attracted to wolves as well - as a little girl I would often study the habits of wolves, White Fang was my favorite book, etc. There is something so beautiful and mystical about them.
stormvixen - how did you have an occasion to be licked by a wolf and how was it freaky?! I'm intrigued!
