I'm hoping someone can help me. I was looking at some information on egyptian gods as i'm very interested in them and the Kemetic religion and on site about Set(or Seth) it seemed to say that Set was originally a Hebrew god. I was just wondering is this true, was Set brought to Egypt by the Hebrews, also is there a connection between Set and Yahweh as on another site, i was looking at the attributes to different gods and there seem to be a few similarities like i thing Set is associated with the desert and storms and i think Yahweh is called the god of the desert, but that's just what i've read, maybe people who have had experiences with him might know different.
Also just one more question, i've seen a lot of people saying they were claimed by a god, i don't think i have but do you think there's anything wrong with trying to get closer to one or some, like making the first move (i'm interested in Anubis, Set, Isis and a few others).

This is by one of the Children of Set from the House of Netjer (Kemetic Orthodoxy). http://www.per-set.org/
I think that a lot of people try to make connections between the Hebrews and Egypt. Some of those links exist. Some don't. Set is the God of Foreigners and some assume that the means that He isn't from Kemet, but I'm not so certain one way or the other.
I think the reason why people connect Set and the Hebrews is in hopes of drawing a connection between Set and Satan, that in my opinion does not exist.

Zephystorm already gave you an excellent answer regarding the fact that Set might originally have been a Hebrew deity. Given that the Egyptian religion was quite accepting of foreign deities, we cannot absolutely rule this hypothesis out.
There is, however, no positive evidence of it as far as I know (as opposed to some deities like Mandoulis or Apedemak who were clearly "borrowed" from the Nubian pantheon, for instance).
On the Set/Yaweh similarities: I would be careful in comparing attributes and drawing any conclusions from that.
In my understanding, the Names of Netjer cannot be reduced to being the "God of this" or "Goddess of that".
Kemeticism is a soft polytheistic religion where each Name is a facet of all-encompassing Netjer (summed up in the famous phrase "the One and the Many"). To me this means that the Names go well beyond archetypes such as "God of embalming" or "Goddess of the sky". They have many, many other attributes... just like Yaweh certainly has many more characteristics than just being a God of the desert!
It is a very good idea to research in depth the Names that interest you most. I would also take time to meditate or at least reflect on Them and simply tell Them that you are interested in meeting Them. This does not need to be formal or involve ritual. Just try to talk to Them and do what feels comfortable. You may well get an answer :)
Also, keep an open mind as to which Name(s) may take an interest in you. They definitely have a sense of humour and Someone completely unexpected might show up.
Best of luck! :)
