Today, my family received devastating news. A long time, very close friend of the family died in a house fire, along with his wife, last night.

The authorities think that the fire started with their woodstove. They've sent the remains to be identified by dental records, to the state.

It is my hope, that Rudy, and his wife, felt no pain in their passing. That maybe the smoke inhalation got to them in their sleep, so that they never felt any pain.

It is very upsetting for my family. Rudy was like one of us. My Grandmother and Grandfather treated him like a son, as Rudy's parents passed away years before.

My Grandparents lived across the road from him for more than thirty years. Rudy often mowed their lawn for them, or went to buy them groceries, etc. And after my grandmother passed, he often came over just to keep my grandfather company. My Grandfather just moved away, this year. And I think he is feeling some guilt about the fire. I think he feels that if he were still living across the street, that he somehow could have gotten Rudy and his wife out alive . My Grandpa was a volunteer fire fighter for many years, but is 87 years old now, and feeble. So...he probably couldn't have done much, except to call the authorities. Anyway...Rudy was also a great friend to my parents, aunts and uncles. He will be deeply missed.

I, personally, remember him from family gatherings, however, I didn't know him really well. I just remember him as an extremely outgoing, friendly, helpful guy.

I guess it is bothering me so much, because the manner in which his death happened...Fire...what a terrible death...and because Rudy has no family left to mourn him, except my family. His parents passed years ago. He has no siblings, or children. Only a step daughter. So at this point, we're not even sure what will be done about a funeral. I wouldn't be surprised however, if my family all banded together, and paid to have a service for him. He was a deeply loved individual.

Anyway..I don't know why I posted this. I guess I'm just deeply saddened, and needed to vent those feelings. Anyway..any prayers/candles/ thoughts that you all could spare for my family at this time would be appreciated. They are all really crushed by this.

Thank you.
