View Full Version : Getting 6 Teeth Pulled

It's hard for me to ask, but I think I need some help for tomorrow. :woah:
The dentist is going to pull 6 upper front teeth :toofless: and fit me with a partial plate. I've had teeth pulled before, and it wasn't too bad, but 6 all at once may be a little more difficult.
:collapse:
I could use some energies for being able to sleep tonight :zzzzZZZ:, for as little bleeding tomorrow as possible, and very little swelling and pain. Is that too much to ask for? :ugh:

Wow. You've had some pulled before and survived? I am amazed at your bravery. And, I'm not being sarcastic either. I'd be terrified if I even got one tooth pulled (haven't had wisdom teeth out yet, may not have to...I hope not).
I'll definitely keep you in mind and send some good vibes your way. If you've managed one tooth at a time before, I am certain you can handle six teeth at once. :hugz:

I had 9 teeth pulled a little over a year ago, so I know what you will be going through! It really isn't too bad, do make sure that they give you something for the pain. I didn't have an incredible amount of pain after, but it was hard to eat. I ate lots of mac & cheese, it just kind of slid down, no chewing involved. Get lots of rest and all my extra energy is being sent to you!Good luck and let me know how you made out.
Blessings!

Thank you all very much for the sympathy and energies, but never mind.
After making the long drive again this morning in rush hour traffic (shudder) I was seen by a different tech who never bothered to introduce himself, and then proceeded to examine my bite in great detail, finally pronouncing that he wouldn't be making any impression because a partial plate wouldn't work for me.
After staring at him in amazement and horror for a full minute without him saying anything else to me, I said, "What?"
He told me that because my top teeth come down so far over my bottom teeth that a partial plate would be too likely to break. I asked what I'm supposed to do instead? He got quite defensive (and I swear I didn't yell at him or anything! he must have been having a shitty day already - or maybe a shitty life I dunno) and said I need to have a dentist do a "reconstruction". He didn't say whether they could do that in their offices or what the hell a "reconstruction" even is.
Eventually I managed to understand that he meant I should go and see a different dentist who does this reconstruction work - which apparently means filing down the tooth and then attaching a false tooth to that remnant permantly. He said it would be cheaper than having six teeth removed and a partial made. Somehow I doubt it. Especially since the tooth next to it will probably need the same thing done.
So much for getting rid of these awful yellow teeth that are rotting to pieces and having a pretty white smile for the first time in my life. :wth:
The dentist I saw last year treated me like a crybaby :wah2: which I am when it comes to seeing the dentist but who needs the attitude? So the search for a different dentist commences.

I'm sorry it worked out that way after you had psyched yourself up for it.
I wish you luck in finding a dentist who can help you as cheaply and painlessly as possible.

After all the time and money I have put into my teeth over the years I (finally) went to a new dentist this past summer and she was honest enough to let me know that all the reconstructive work (root canals, caps, crowns, etc.) I have been having done since I was in my teens had eventually destroyed the upper jaw bone to the point that my only option was to get an entire upper plate denture.
I took the plunge and did it and in about two months (as this process is slow and gradual) I had a new set of upper teeth and I feel so much better with all that garbage out of my head!
I'm a little self conscious about letting people know I wear a denture, but on the whole I feel a lot better about my appearance, too!
My end cost (we are lucky enough to have a dental plan here, and they covered a lot more of this work than anything else I've ever had done!) was about $450.00.
If you are not too hesitant about this option, (and I sure was at first, but I prefer to be able to eat) I would look into it in comparison to the estimate for this reconstructive work.

But that's why I went to this dentist, to see if I could have them ALL pulled and have dentures made. They took a wrap-around x-ray and said just what every other dentist has said for the last 15 years, that my teeth aren't bad enough to have all of them pulled. So they just keep rotting away. (sigh) And all the cavities and rotten places keep putting toxins and crap into my system, making me more susceptible to getting sick and causing sinus problems and headaches. (sigh reprise)
I was so glad to find a dentist who would pull the worst ones and replace them with a partial plate, only to have my hopes and delight crushed this morning by some jerk who didn't even have the courtesy to introduce himself and tell me what he was going to be doing. Or have the decency to explain what he meant by reconstructive dentistry when I clearly thought he meant another damn root canal.
And on top of this, making me feel twice as bad about the whole situation, I've caught a cold virus. I don't remember what the incubation time is for a cold virus so I don't know if I caught it from someone on New Year's Eve or caught it from someone at the dentist's office yesterday.

I'm so sorry, sweetie. :hugz:
Believe me, I understand totally about the sinus ills and headaches. I had an earache on and off from 1996 that I finally left behind this summer. I wish I could think of some solution for you, and I can't understand why dentists don't see that when bad teeth make you physically ill like this having them pulled should be elective!
As much as they advertise these one-day denture services you'd think you could find someone who would be more sympathetic and sensitive to your needs.

I've only had my teeth cleaned once and it hurt so bad I was crying. The dumb tech was listening to music and looking at what she was doing and she didn't even notice how much pain she was causing. I finally pushed her away and said, "No more!" She said she was so sorry and she would have numbed my gums if she had realized. Well, why didn't she tell me that was an option before she even started? Arrrrgghhhhhh!

:hugz: Lunacie. I know how difficult it is finding someone who listens and hoping that somewhere out there are people who have a little respect when it comes to something like this. I am finally on a waiting list to get into the hospital to have all my teeth removed. It's a long waiting list so I don't have a date but at least I'm on it. I still have to go see a denturist to get impressions done. I am so looking forward to no more tooth aches, sinus infections, sore throats and taking forever to eat anything. I no longer respond to freezing of any kind so I need to be put under and as the waiting list is so long, I need to have all done at once. At least Drisel works at the hospital I'll be at so it is a comfort for me.

Is the nerve endings still alive in your teeth? If there are, they won't pull them out. As a person who needs one of her back teeth pulled because it hurts like hell, the only option the dentist had was to block it up with a filling because the nerve was still alive.
It still hurts and is now super sensitive (I can have cold/hot food because it hurts too much).
Sending you healing energy for your teeth!

Difficult to find someone who listens? I thought I had found such a person on Monday at this Dental Center but on Tuesday I got blown out of the water. I guess things have changed since my mom had all of her teeth pulled some 35 years ago or else they were worse than I realized. The dentists keep telling me that mine aren't that bad, but I know they are making me sick.
Let us know when you get to the top of the list and get your teeth pulled. I will sure send energies for you in getting through all that. :hugz:

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any pain since this tooth broke, but I know that it's only a matter of time, so I'm trying to get something done, if only the dentists would be more helpful.
