I can't imagine how the guy could win, but he's got history on his side. Any so called historical documents proving Jesus exsisted will quickly have their legitimacy blasted but I don't think it's going to work. A loop hole will be found and catholocism will only be strenghened. he will probably get counter sued, in the US that would fail to but I have no idea about italy.

His law suit is unfounded. The issue is not whether or not Jesus existed or not, but the nature of the case. He is suing an individual priest using a law that is meant to protect people against being swindled or conned. To swindle is to deprive of by deceit, and involves personal gain. Unless he can prove that the priest requires payment for his services (donations are not required), then the existence of Jesus (or lack thereof) is a moot point.

I'm not a sharp on Italian law, but I think you pretty much nailed it on the head with that one.
Plus, I've never really liked the idea of striking at other peoples paths in an attempt to benefit one's own. However, this is a really interesting case, nonetheless. Thank you for sharing.

Actually, I'm kinda happy to see someone take a stand against the Catholic church in Rome. I've always had concerns about the power they hold and the way they wield it. They use fear to rule and I would love to see their power taken down a notch. I'm not sure if his case is founded or not because I have absolutely no knowledge of Italian law....I only hope he doesn't give them more power by pressing on with the suit.
