Cool! I also just noticed gender symbols. The gender symbols would probably blend in better if they had a transparent background instead of a white one.

I usually go by a combination of karma, post count, length of time as a member, and most importantly -- what a person says.
Karma orgies defeat the purpose of karma. I choose not to participate in them.

Oh, but they did! :)
They showed that everyone (well, almost ^^) around here "is too nice!"! I'm really sorry if I'm 'making issues over nothing', but I kind of liked how it made everyone equally 'loved', instead of confronting newbies with 'karma power' they'll never be able to catch up with. You know, similar to all those spiffy titles and such on other forums? :hmmmmm: Again, I don't really have a problem with it personally, but it's just what I thought.

I think it's how many karma points you give someone when you poke them.
WtchyChick13
January 6th, 2006, 12:44 AM
I think it's how many karma points you give someone when you poke them.
From the FAQ's:
By giving or taking Karma ('karmalising', 'karma poking'), you can show your appreciation or disapproval of messages other members posted.
You touch someone's Karma by clicking the [ Touch Karma ] link underneath a person's post. You can give Karma or take it away, and you can even leave a Karma Comment. These are viewable in their control panel.
Karma Comments are supposed to be treated like Private Messages. If you find a Karma Comment to violate the MW rules, please inform the administrators. Under no circumstance should Karma Comments be published onto the forums.
How it works:
Your browser / firewall application must accept pop-up windows for the Karma touches to work.
You cannot touch your own posts' Karma.
You can give or take Karma for posts only, and just once per post.
You can only touch Karma 10 times in a 24 hour period.
You cannot touch the same person's Karma until you have touched 10 others.
Giving Karma results in a little green box in the member's Karma Comments ('Green Karma').
Taking Karma away results in a little red box in the member's Karma Comments ('Red Karma').
Karma is counted in Points. The amount of Karma Points shows up under your member name in each post, in the form of little green boxes (with a max. of 11 boxes).
If you have less than 10 Karma Points or 50 posts, you cannot give Karma nor take it away. However, your good intentions and the comment are still shown, as 'Blue Karma'. Blue Karma, previously known as Grey Karma, holds no power.
Putting a member onto your ignore list will make their karma pokes invisible as well.
Karma Points translate into Karma Power. How much you get and can give, depends on a few things. Here is a run down:
Karma Power shows up as a number underneath the little green boxes next to each post.
Every 90 days you are a member, you gain 1 point of Karma Power.
Every 1000 posts you gain 1 point of Karma Power.
Every 100 Karma Points you gain 1 point of Karma Power.
Counting Power impact:
When giving Karma, people receive the same amount of Points as your Karma Power.
When taking Karma away, it will deduct half of your Power from the targeted member's Karma Points.
Note: Taking Karma away will also deduct 1/4 of your Power from your Points.
Grey Karma neither gives nor takes Power nor Points.
Flaire

No and I've already explained how to tell which is which. The arrow at the bottom denotes males and the cross at the bottom denotes females. They are based upon the symbols for men and women as we know them today (which are the astrological signs for Mars and Venus).
mol, perhaps you should bring in the traditional male and female symbols, as it appears the current ones are granting more confusion than clarity.

Yeah, they used to be different. Right now you're showing Karma Points, but you're labelling it Karma Power. Points is what you yield, Power was what you wield. People got confused because both Points and Power were prefixed with "Karma", and both words start with "po". Thus calling one "Karma something" and the other "Rep something" makes a bigger difference. Easier to keep apart.

8O OK I have read all post up to my own and I am still lost. I don't understand the Karma power or points.
Now if I am understanding this right?? Karma power shows under your avatar when you post a comment and is some how related to karma you can or have given to others???? Karma points show in your UCP or Profile area and is the Karma that someone has given you cause they feel strongly about what you said (good or bad, points up or down)????
Umm... yeah... and it's related to the value of the yen against the Vietnamese Dong.

THE KARMA MEANS NOTHING! Unless it's a measure of vanity that is. Nothing personal toward anyone so chill out.

Hi
I've been away for a very long time. I've noticed I've lost my karma points !!
I guess its because I was a bit new & hadn't posted a thread?

A while back, we answered the age-old question if one could have "too much" karma, which caused a few users' karma power to go into the negative. Mol has since re-set the karma. :)

Karma is more about the pokes you see in the usercp than the points, people. At least, here it is.
