Repeated detailed dream

Is there any meaning to someone having the same exact dream years apart, or even the same dream but with slight differances. Dreams that are so detailed it is kind of earie feeling. Are they dreams or something else?

I'm not sure, either, but I want to know the answer.
When I was younger, I used to have the same dreams over and over again. They were so vivid that I can recall them in perfect detail, even now, over ten years later. One of them involved a childhood friend that I haven't seen since preschool. Looking back on it, I realize that I started having the dream shortly after the end of preschool, when he left for a different school system. A few years later, then a few years ago, I had the dream again for some reason. I could see his face in it, even though I don't remember what he looks like. I'm thinking that maybe we have some sort of spiritual connection, so I have the dream when he's undergoing a period of great change or something? I don't know, but it's the only logical explanation I can think of.
