No kidding? I didn't know that. About the ex-scientologists that is. You know, that's a branch I have never heard from on MW.

Scientologists, you mean?

They pretty much keep to themselves.

What is the Difference between Discordianism and the Church of the Process?

Thornley hated the Process Church. He felt they had played an instrumental role in helping bring him to the attention of Jim Garrison and tried to frame him into the Oswald assassination investigation.

On Sondra London's site there is a book which I am reading currently which mentions them. I'll see what else comes up. He mentions he was spooked when he heard about Manson's links to them though.

That's almost verbatim to Trey Parker's response. He had no problem cashing a check when they were making fun of Christians.

I just have a hard time accepting any religion that was created by a wager.

Okay, I read through this entire thread (yes, the entire thing cover to cover) and the only rational conclusion I can come to is that Discordians et al are CATS. Yes CATS, never on the same page, love cages but only when it's their idea and don't make good pets, oh and eat whatever they want at the moment. CATS I tell you!!!!!!

Discordians aren't required to wear colored robes with an alpha or omega symbols on them

Discordians generally don't have anything to do with Jehova,Lucifer,Christ or Satan.
Eris is our Co-Pilot.

Most Discordians don't hang out,or want anything to do,with Charlie Manson.

The CotP theology was at a time heavily influenced by the "teachings" of Anton LaVey.
Discordianism is heavily inflenced by the teachings of (Groucho,Chico,Harpo, and sometime Zeppo) Marx.

Discordianism didn't influence David Berkowitz(Son of Sam).
According to his own testimony, the CotP ideology did.

Discordianism has no set dogma(only catmas) and no set hierarchy.
CotP members are required to believe CotP propaganda.

The founders of discordianism were 2 burnt out hippies from California, the CotP founders were ex-scientologists from England.

Discordians admit our religion is a joke. The CotP are very serious about thiers.

Discordianism is about freedom, and chaos. The CotP is about control and order.

Many discordians believe that since all religions cause chaos, confusion and strife in one way or another, all religions are de facto discordian by nature.
CotP doesn't get the joke.

Somebody finally got the difference!

Yay!

Somebody finally got the difference!

Yay!
Going to be 43 in August.I didn't get this old playing the game of Eris without learning a thing or two.
Chaos is something that takes decades to master.

Tonight I had to put a young chaos mage who thought he was "all that" back in his place.I just got tired of him making all these outrageous claims about his magick, saying that he is the wave of the futu=re,and i'm just an old fogey discordian(his exact words)and when he had the nerve to tell me that I am to old to tear up the dancefloor,I just had to blow him away(it was goth night at the Dungeon tonight).
Needless to say, since I''ve been dancing at gothclubs for 20 someodd years now,all the girlies decided to dance with me(he was hittting on everyone female all night, with no success).
I may not be able to tear up the dance floor all night like I used to,doesn't mean i can't tear it up for a song or two.
It's been a while since i've hung out and danced like that.

I hurt all over now,and I am very drunk(only 3 of those beers i paid for, like I said,I am one hell of a discordian mage.)

Part 2.

This is the best part.
"Charlie"(the young chaos mage) tells me that he is going to go on the dance floor to "raise some chaos".
Told him it wasn't a smart idea.

So he's on the dancefloor doing bad tai-chi,and I turn to my homie "Dragon James" and said to him.
"Charlies putting the wrong type of energy into the dancefloor".

30 seconds later I'm grabbing my beer and diving out the way of "Big Jimmy"(the clubs bouncer) and some stupid drunk touron trading blows not more then 2 feet away from me (Big Jimmy is a good friend of mine for many years, and he is always stationed by the big speakers that my crew like to sit and put our jackests on).
They wrestle all over the dancefloor until Big Jim can get him into a front headlock and the other bouncers can subdue the guy and "escort him out of the establishment".

Dragon james looks at me and says
"You definately called that one".

Charlie walks up to us and says "Oops, sorry about that".
Me and Dragon James look at him and say.

"This is why children shouldn't play with magic".

Is the Discordian Society responsible for GW Bush becoming president?
Nope.
Gruad Greyface,The Sacred Order of the DEFAMATION LEAGUE and the Social Order of THE CITIZENS COMMITTEE FOR CONCERNED CITIZENS are to blame for that.

In other words, don't blame "US",blame "THEM".

But we did have some of our agents in the Clinton administration.
They even left a few calling cards.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/stories/01/26/whitehouse.pranks.02/index.html

Republican sources told CNN that the pranks included removing the letter "w" from computer keyboards, forwarding some calls from various offices to the chief of staff's office and leaving signs on doors poking fun at Bush's occasional verbal pratfalls, such as one sign saying "Office of the Strategerie."

The letter "w" is the 23 letter of the alphabet.

The Bush administration knows we still have a mole in the Whitehouse leaking out info, but he and the rest of the Greyfaces will never guess who.

Sometimes.
I am quite familiar with the IOT,and while I lean more toward Phil Hine then Peter J.Carrol(yeah,I know,he's pretty much severed ties with them),with the exception of some very minor philosophical differences,I have nothing against them.

The IOT has always given discordianism it's due credit for inspiring many of their beliefs, and I've had many a interesting conversation with various members.

Do discordians know about the fascifundies latest attempts to indoctrinate the youth? Particulary the project they are dubbing "Battle Cry" ? http://www.battlecry.com/

Last friday, they brought 25,000 kids together under the banner of red flags in San Francisco, and they pretty much held a rally for the "right wing" of the culture war. Critics ensist that this event is set to promote racism, sexism, homophobia, and militant fascism to American Youth.

IOT?

OTO?

AMA?

What's with all these fraternities?
Nothing wrong with fraternities.
I was fraternity president of Iota Omicron Epsilon( IOE,or as we liked to call it,The Initiates of Eris, a very respectable Erisian fraternity when I was a student at Miskatonic University.

We had a big rivalry with the big snooty Ceremonialist Mages fraternity Delta Iota Kappa( or as we liked to call them the DIKs).

I remember one time,I got busted by the lake where all the Innsmouth students hang out all the time(and I do mean all the time),making Out with this really cute wiccan cheerleader, who unfortunately, was had also just broken up with a member of DIK a few weeks before, who was with four of his friends.
Needless to say,I got my ass whooped.

When I healed ( head nurse was a master healer) I went to the janitor (because everyone knows he's the baddest mofo in Miskatonic, because he'sthe one who has to clean up everyones "mistakes") and asked his advice on how to get pack at good old "Skip".

Now,don't get me wrong, one of the things i had to learn early in life was how to fight.Kicking Skips ass wasn't the problem,it was how to do it without his buddies jumping in.

So I walked up to Skip between classes and told him,'I am about to teach you a lesson in erisian magic.
I challenge you to a magical duel after classes."

After everyone within earshot stopped laughing their butts off,Skip accepted.

When he and his crew(I had my crew with me also, just in case) showed up,
I Told him,
"Here's the rules..."

1-In the sacred circle,it's a no spells or summonings barred match.Anything goes.
2-No one can interfere once the match begins.
3-You get one spell to defeat your opponent.
4-you win when you vanquish your foe and walk out the circle.
5-no retaliations after the match.

He accepted the terms.

We step inside the circle, and begin.
Skipp puts on his robe, goes into his gym bag, takes out his chalice, his atheme, chalk, candles, chrystals,a bag of leeches, incense, a wand,a live chicken, a ham and pastrami sandwich,a diet coke, and this huge-ass grimiore, and begins to draw his Circle of Protection.
While he's bent over drawing the circles( really detailed, even he even used different colored chalk), I reach into my backpack, pulled out piece of paper with a crudely drawn sigil( I used crayons),and the words "Beatdown Spell+5" written on it in big leaters,
showed it to the crowd, burned it,and then I rushed Skip and beat the living daylights out of him.

My foe thus vanquished,I stepped out of the circle victorious, only to see that cute wiccan cheerleader walking off hand in hand with one of those Innsmouth kids with the bulging eyes and smell vaguely of fish (actually all them Innsmouth kids have bulging eyes and vaguely smell like fish) member of the swimteam.

hail Eris.
