So my parents and I went out to this new little sushi restaurant we found, which was awesome. It was a tiny little hole in the wall place that could probably only seat like 30 people, owned by this old woman and her two sons. The food was amazing, and the woman was a very talented origami artist. She had a display case full of her work, that included a huge origami peacock, a full sized vase, and lots of other amazing pieces. After dinner my parents and I walked over to look at her work, and since the restaurant was empty save for us, she came over to talk to us about her origami.
We asked her how she made it, etc. etc, and there was a cute little yellow chick next to the peacock that was just so cute. I told her I loved it because it looked so silly, and she put one finger up and opened the cabinet and handed it to me. "A gift," she said in her broken English "Very easy to make."
I dunno. I just got such good vibes from this old lady. She was probably 65 or 70 and only came about up to my armpit (I'm only 5'4, so she was tiny) and she had gray hair and these gnarled hands. She made all of the sushi herself by hand, and seemed like the kind of granny who would give her sons a good whack upside the head with a wooden rice paddle. She was just so sweet, and I feel so blessed that I got to meet her and talk to her and she gave me one of her pieces. It's so cute!
