I've started this thread so that we can causally discuss whatever, candle related, magic related or just whatever!
Also, I'll have the next lesson sometime next week. This is the first week of classes, so I'm going a bit nuts! :)
so... here's a random question...
When do you light candles, other than for a spell?
I light candles when I'm reading a book, or taking a bath. General relaxation kiinda thing. :) I also light them as offerings to my Gods and to my Akhu (spirits), but that is more like a spell imho.

I have lots of candles but hardly light them. There is clutter in the house and a cat so that is why. I'd like a bath with them and maybe herbs and flower petals.

I light candles sometimes when I'm having a bath, during blackouts (very useful thing to have a bunch of candles around), when I feel compelled to. I don't do many spells actually, so my candle lighting is much more frequently tied to non-ritual/spell-related things.

I light candles when I'm studying usually. I've been known to get quite stressed while I'm studying and candles usually give me something to focus on for a few minutes when I have those moments. It also helps keep me calm and helps me concentrate.

I love candles!! I have always loved them. And I usually dont burn them, so then they just collect dust. But recently I have been getting better about lighting them. I will light one if my girls the dogs are being stinky or if I am meditating.

I suppose that it would depend on how it's broken and what kind of candle it is to begin with (taper, votive, etc).

I like to light candles sometimes on my desk at work. My employer knows that I am pagan and she actually is very supportive. (I know I am very lucky) I also light them at night sometimes to help me relax. when i had my altar in my bedroom i kept one lit at all times. Now that it is in another room, I have a room just for my altar and my computer, I don't keep one lit. I don't feel as compelled. I think i might need to make a small altar or maybe an altar box in my bedroom. I really miss the candles at night.

I think I light them for just about everything we generally have atleast one burning even if it is just a tealight under my aroma melts warmer. I also keep one in my car in the winter in case of an accedent or something it will keep you from freezing to death. Thank goodness I have never needed it but I know it is always there!

I light candles when I'm doing anything really. I try to always have one lit now, especially since it's the Imbolc season. The most times I light them though is when I'm having company over, watching t.v. and taking a bath. Very awesome things...one of my favorite things about Wicca, is the emphasis on candles....blessed be.

You could always cut the wick and have two candles. Other than that, I'd say to melt it down.

kind of off topic, but dddo candles have to be unscented to work?
wondering since it is harder for me to find unscented

Scents can either help or hurt your spells! We'll be covering that in a later segment.
Two alternatives for you in the meantime... use tealights... they're usually unscented. Or... make your own! That's what Lesson 2 was about! :)
If you do buy scented candles for spells, a guide for the time being (until we get to that lesson) is to make sure that the scent hits you as appropriate for the goal!

I know I didn't sign up for the class, but I hope I could talk here anyway. I was wondering how many people besides for myself like to light virtual candles? The site I like best for that is:

It's an interesting concept, imho.
I don't myself. Generally if I don't light a physical candle (which is often nothing more than a prayer said over a tealight and then lighted and placed in one of my shrines), I will just send energy.
When I'm just sending the energy, I will focus on the person and the need, visualising the situation changing to the desired outcome... or just the desired outcome. This is the most basic form of magic. Magic is willpower. Everything that we do, and all the toys that we have are nothing more than methods to harness and draw out our own willpower.
For this reason, I find that virtual candles can be very appropriate. Just remember to put that will into them. Pray, visualise... strongly... and it will be great!
Rambling on...

A book on candle magic was actually how I found Wicca and Paganism. I am no longer Wiccan, but candles still have a lot of functioning for me spiritually!!!
I do wonder where spiritually candles got left behind... Prodestant? I know Catholics use them a lot. Thoughts? Comments? Anyone experienced in a "mainstream" religion which doesn't use candles?

I love candles! This is a very mild statement for me. [laughing] Actually I am a candle whore! :hahugh:
I have all kinds of candles but never made any, yet. (Now that I have lesson two I will start making my own)
I light candles for all reasons:
Lavendar - reading tarot, after a hard day, shower/bath, meditation
Red - sex, festivities/parties/celebrations, needing assertiveness, to bring in love, for passion
Sage Green - in my kitchen for cooking, cleansing, ending of a meal, bringing in money because my kitchen is in the money section for my feng shui, I love the smell of my candle - Fig/lychee
White or Cream - cleansing, after housework, while reading or studying, when all is quiet after a noisey time, meditation, crisis management
Purple - meditation
Pale shades of blue, pink, lavender and then white candles in my bath for showering and getting ready for any spiritual work or to the end the day.
So I love candles is an understatement. All of my friends call me to get candles or to help them pick the right candles for their special occasions.

OK... let's see if I can pick my arse up off the floor...
Next lesson is on it's way.
I hope that everyone has taken this time to work on establishing and firming up what we've covered so far. If not... that's fine, but I do encourage everyone to read over the past lessons again, go over your correspondence lists and expand those lists.
