I am thinking of writing my next article on empathy...what it means, some basic outlines of the different types of traits we have etc etc.

What do you all think? Any input?

I think that's a very good idea, could be helpful :hugz:

Well make sure you stress we are normal everyday folks, but with a bit of a twist so to speak. Talk about how we feel, we act and respond to others. Things like that would be good.

I'd like to see empathy presented as a series of articles.

You have the different types of empaths and their areas of strengths and weaknesses.
You have the areas of dealing with being an empath so as not to let it negatively impact one's own life choices.
You have the how empathy can be used as a healing tool.
You have the areas of how empathy is used negatively what to watch out.
You have the areas of learning how to be a stronger empath.
You have an area of how to deal with personal emotional issues verus dealing with the emotions of others and how to know and handle the differences.
You have an area of how an empath uses his/her ability in choosing their SOs and what that does to the relationship.
You have the area of those who are close to an empath and how they deal with what they and the empath go through.

There's a lot to cover. I'm don't think a sigle article can cover it.

I think it's a great idea. Not alot of folks know what it means to be an empath. Good luck !

good idea, I especially like the list that Silvermaiden compiled but I think also a definition of what an empath is and empathy is a good starting point that can lead to Silvermaiden's list.
Even an interview with a few empaths and they dealings with every day life may be of interest to the general public.

Make it in-depth if you write it.

I've begun to get the feeling that people are confusing empathy with sympathy and compassion... and that empathic nature in general is being taken for granted, or that "everyone" is an empath... when that isn't necessarily the case.

I don't know if that's just my impression... but its one of the reasons I haven't been around these threads much lately. :p

I think that everyone can, and should, develop empathy, but it's not the same thing as "being" an Empath. It's similar to what I've been learning about ADD. Everyone has times when they display the same symptoms as a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD, but they come and go and don't affect the quality of life noticably. For an Empath, this affects our lives noticably.

I agree that everyone can develop empathy. As for "should" it would be nice, but some are just not capable of it for some reason. Yes, it certainly isn't the same as "being" and Empath. Although I don't recall choosing to be one, but here I am.

 You don't usually choose, but are chosen. ;) Or something like that.

And I'm not saying that everyone doesn't have the ability for empathy... but that doesn't necessarily make you an empath.

And I'm just gonna shut up, 'cause I don't want to sound like a jerk, and I'm not sure how to get my point across.

Oh, nothing of it. I understand your point. I agree, in the back of me mind I'm sure it's "one is chosen" not "one chooses" when it comes to "being" an empath. I have to accept and learn to live with the fact that I happen to be an Empath. I am sure I have been for longer than I think too. Knowing who me Goddess is that I devoted to in this life and the last one (I suppose), it should come as no surprise. I just didn't know it would be so rough, but that's partly me own fault for not paying attention to myself and going for years so unprotected, not learning about it and what have you.

Your correct, having the ability for empathy is not the same as "being" and empath. I thought that point was made by Lunacie clear enough. I just was digging a little deeper at the bit about Everyone "should" learn to be an empath.

Well, if you want to learn to handle it, you've come to the right place. :) Over time, MW has accumulated a LOT of excellent and helpful info... though you really have to dig to find some of it, like in the Empathic Bunker thread.

And I agree... empathy in and of itself is something that more people should practice. The world seems to have gotten to be a cold and distant place these days. A little empathy for others couldn't hurt!
