Qball has asked about Amun over in the New Pagans forum, and as the local daughter of Amun, I thought I'd start a little thread on my Dad! yay!

Amun, The Hidden One: (also spelled Amen, Amon, Ammon)

His name means Hidden, and He is described as "Mysterious of Form." Sometimes syncretisized with Ra. The Greeks associated Him with Zeus.

His city is Thebes. He is king of the Gods, and upholder of Justice. He protects the weak. Some of the pharaohs claimed he was their biological father, notably Hatshepsut.
Amun's name may also relate to the Libyan word for water, amen.

He is associated with Geese, as he is the Great Shrieker who laid the World Egg. :D He can also be associated with Rams, Criosphinxes (Ram headed spinxes), and with frogs.

As a member of the Ogdoad, He personifies hidden power with His wife, Amaunet. In this form He has the head of a frog, while She has the head of a snake.
Amaunet later became Mut, the Lioness Eye of Ra Who is the Queen of the Gods. His son is Khonsu, one of the Moon Gods.

One of His festivals is Opet, which celebrates His marriage with Mut.

Some sources say that he is pure holiness, independent of the universe and the personification of the Breath of Life. As a God of Wind, He can also be a God of Storms. yay!

When He is with Re, He has two sides to His personality - the Hidden (Amun) and the Revealed (Re).

I've found that He likes amethyst - he claimed my favorite one. He can be a very quiet God to have in your life, but that's not so bad. Of course, like all the Gods what He seems to like the most is that you give life your all. chocolate is another offering that He likes, and Cherry jolly ranchers. I've also given Him frogs, artwork, and poetry. He's been pleased with all of that, though I know He really wants a goose from me, but that's just because of how He relates to me specifically.

If I keep going, no one else will have anything else to add, so I'll shut up now and return to my Amun Fandom. :T

Wow, Thank you very much. I was a major car crash and I have just started to regain my faith and path. It has been very hard with the total loss of my memory and haveing to relearn how to read and stuff. Amun spoke to me as I meditated outside one day. A beutiful Thursday, I kept hearing a voice everytime the wind blew. It gave me a calm and content feeling that I haven't had since the crash. I need to learn as much as I can. I am finally losing that lost feeling I used to have.Any help you can give me is so apprcitated.
Peace,Love,And Faith

:hugz: Qball, my best advice is: talk to Him about what's going on in your life. That goes for all the Gods.
You won't always hear the answer, but They listen. :)
lemme see what books there are that talk about Him in depth...

Egyptian Art and the cults of Ositis and Amun by E. Otto
Egyptian solar religion in the New Kingdom: Ra, Amun and the crisis of polytheism by Jan Assmann trans by A. Alcock

Otherwise the only other thing I can give you is a bit of personal gnosis. I can come back later and post some of it.

Poem that I wrote about who Amun is to me.
Hidden, You slip through my hands
Not like water,
You leave only the sensation of your touch
The breeze upon my skin.

Mysterious, You are beyond the poor expressions which artists give,
Leaving ephemeral glimpses of Winds
You come, a sphinx,
Strength, and Power is Yours,

Sudden, You slip through my hands,
A goose flying south for the winter.
You return, Hidden again,
Mystery again, to sing in my ear.

To be my constant Listener.
You slip through my hands,
Like air, ever present,
Almost unnoticed, yet vital.

My breath is Yours.
My speech is Yours.
Hidden and Mysterious,
I am Your child.
You slip through my hands.

eep! *blush* _inabox_

Em Hotep!
Kinda neat to find out that your birthstone, element and Chinese Astrological symbol all are things of Ra/Amun Re,who is also my patron..my other name has Imn(Amen)Ra in it.
