Qball has asked about Amun over in the New Pagans forum, and as the local daughter of Amun, I thought I'd start a little thread on my Dad! yay!
Amun, The Hidden One: (also spelled Amen, Amon, Ammon)
His name means Hidden, and He is described as "Mysterious of Form." Sometimes syncretisized with Ra. The Greeks associated Him with Zeus.
His city is Thebes. He is king of the Gods, and upholder of Justice. He protects the weak. Some of the pharaohs claimed he was their biological father, notably Hatshepsut.
Amun's name may also relate to the Libyan word for water, amen.
He is associated with Geese, as he is the Great Shrieker who laid the World Egg. :D He can also be associated with Rams, Criosphinxes (Ram headed spinxes), and with frogs.
As a member of the Ogdoad, He personifies hidden power with His wife, Amaunet. In this form He has the head of a frog, while She has the head of a snake.
Amaunet later became Mut, the Lioness Eye of Ra Who is the Queen of the Gods. His son is Khonsu, one of the Moon Gods.
One of His festivals is Opet, which celebrates His marriage with Mut.
Some sources say that he is pure holiness, independent of the universe and the personification of the Breath of Life. As a God of Wind, He can also be a God of Storms. yay!
When He is with Re, He has two sides to His personality - the Hidden (Amun) and the Revealed (Re).
I've found that He likes amethyst - he claimed my favorite one. He can be a very quiet God to have in your life, but that's not so bad. Of course, like all the Gods what He seems to like the most is that you give life your all. chocolate is another offering that He likes, and Cherry jolly ranchers. I've also given Him frogs, artwork, and poetry. He's been pleased with all of that, though I know He really wants a goose from me, but that's just because of how He relates to me specifically.
If I keep going, no one else will have anything else to add, so I'll shut up now and return to my Amun Fandom. :T
