Sorry to ask this but i didnt see this issue being addressed anywhere on this forum and the server is being slooooooooooooooooooooooow..............
What does u do about nails that refuse to rust? There are 3 big iron nails i need to put in a witchs bottle but the nails still look brand new.
The nails have been sitting in a jar in a dark place in a corrosive solution for nearly a month now. I really don't know how to go on.
Any help/insights would great ly be appreciated.

I have no idea why your nails won't rust. Maybe the nails are treated with something that inhibits corrosion.
Is your spell really not going to work if the nails aren't perfectly rusty? The condition of the nails shouldn't matter as much as the intent you are putting into your working.
Just a thought.

Try using a can coke(pop) Let them set a day or two..They will turn black, then leave them in the air to dry for a day or two so they rust..You'll be surprized what a can of coke can do..Eats rust away to..

I agree with Dio and/or Bob.
Since the actual conditon of an item doesn't really matter, just the symbolic aspect, you could even just paint the nails a rusty color. Magic is powered more by the mind than actual physical objects.
Also, creativity and improvisation help. Cigarettes have been called "coffin nails" and can be used in place of actual coffin nails, still generating the same effect because, like I said, what occurs in your mind is more important to magic than physicality. If they need to be rusty, paint the smokes rusty. Really doesn't matter.

Wow...brings the term "they're just nails in your coffin" about smokes to light...thank you

I've never done anything with nails, except to hammer them into wood, so I don't know a thing about this. But now I'm curious as to why it's more desirable in your opinion to have a rusty nail vs a shiny new looking one.

Hmmm..i'm beginning to think this is an rarer problem. Yeah, these nails need to be ready by next week at the latest. I think i will try teh can idea and paint them if they dont rust even then.
lol at the cigareetes=coffin nails comparison, but would that work if u were a smoker, coz i am and cant quit. i agree w/semi in the fact that if u are good at visualization u dont need the nails so rusty, but i can count on one hand the number of times i've made coffin nails, im a nOOb at that.
To put in a witch bottle, i need a protection spell coz theres people i want to ward off, its not a reversing spell or anything like that. i guess a bottle would cover that, too, tho.
In teh bottle, i dont put blood in it, that seems unneccessary, but maybe thats just me. it just escapes me why these nails wont rust, they have been given chance after chance.
Only other thing i know about this is that oxidizing nails is the 21st-century equivalent of real coffin nails, but i may be wrong.
Any additional insight would be great ly appreciatd.

Are they galvanized?? If they are, they won't rust

Is the bottle corked? It shouldnt be, you need the oxygen to promote the rusting. Are they completely covered in whatever solution youre using, they sholdnt be, for the same reason. Want to rust them FAST, use salt water - it corrodes things quickly. Also, some nails are coated with oils from their production. This inhibits rusting. The simple way to combat that would be to boil the nails for a bit until you feel any oils are removed.
As others have said, you may also have not iron nails, but galvanized ones, in which case they simply will not rust. If you have what are called 6d, or 6 penney nails, they arent going to rust anytime soon no9 matter what you do.
Get yourself some "common" nails at the hardware store - theyll work well for you. In fact, if you go through your local home Depot or hardware store, you'll most likely find some in the bins that are already rusted.

Might I add scuffing the nails up with sandpaper of an emery board before soaking?

I like to improvise as magic is intention.
I can't find any coffin nails and I never thought of rusting nails. I live near a pet cemetary so I use old pet nails. The cemetary is out of use and the pet nails are rusted looking, or at least dirty from all the digging and stuff.
If all else fails just get a little dust from a gravestone and use that. I think it's a good substitution and you don't have to wait for anything.
Good Luck!

Thanks for explaining why you want the nails. I stepped on a big rusty nail yesterday and pulled it out of my shoe with pliers. It's extra rusty now given that there's blood on it. Of course you just mentioned that you don't use blood in your witch's bottle, but you could always wash it off. But I remember hearing that bloody, rusty nails work even better. If you want this nail, let me know and I could send it to you. It hurt like crap and so did the tetanus shot, and I'd for someone to get some good out of this.

This also sounds weird...But sometime's you can ask a caretaker at a cemetary?..They find all kind of things..
