What happened to all those people who were missing after Hurricane Katrina?

Immediately after hurricanes Rita and Katrina forced hundreds of thousands to relocate, more than 18,000 people were reported missing. Months after the storm, more than 4,200 still are, including hundreds of children.

they are sending people back into the heavily damaged areas to search about 400+ homes. they say the reason they couldn't have searched them before is because there was way too much destruction.

though after five months i don't know what they could really find

They are still searching. And they found a body in an attic this weekend.
