I just performed my first ritual this morning... I asked for the healing powers of my goddesses to help me with a particular problem.. I used the alter I set up, cleansed the space and my tools, called my quarters and lit my candles with intentions.. I found I had the need to kneel after this as standing felt awkward. I also felt myself rocking back and forth as I evoked those I need. I also at times (my ritual lasted close to a half an hour) found the need to put my hands and head to the floor (monk style). I had no ritual prayer planned so I pretty much just said what came into my head in a rambling manner. When I finished I closed widdershins and thanked my quarters for their protection. I guess why I'm writing this is because I was wondering if anyone else found themselves doing a specific "thing" when it comes to rituals like always using rhyme or chants or rambling or standing during the entire time or do you kneel or is it subjective to the ritual and what feels right at the time..
I'm very pleased with how it went and the feelings it evoked in me during and after.. looking back I wonder if my goddesses are smiling at the infancy of my ritual life..
blessed be

I find that each ritual is different if you felt you should kneel and rock well you probaly were supposed to, I notice no matter how well I may plan something when it comes right down to it it changes, even as much as what I was going to say things just start happining- to me that means you must have done something right and the spirits or who ever you called upon for your helpers are there with you.

Im the same way,I am humbled when I feel the presence of the Goddess, and God,I think its because you are a humble person and show respect, and Im sure the Goddess is touched by your love and respect for her.

Its hard to lift yourself up when In the presence of one so divine and lovely.
And you have the wisdom to see that.

Bless you.

The rituals I've done that I consider the most successful are the ones where I do just what you describe - I'm standing, I'm sitting, I'm wandering around, I'm sitting in trees...whatever strikes me as the thing to do at the moment. If I manage to stick exactly to the ritual script I prepared, that probably wasn't as successful a ritual, because it means I never managed to get out of head-space. I was too busy thinking about the ritual to really experience it. My deep self knows waaaay better than my conscious mind how to be in right relationship with Mystery; when I get out of my own way and let that deep self do its thing, that's when I truly come into alignment with the Mystery in all things.

I prefer to kneel before my shrine when doing prayer or ritual. If I'm going to do a meditation there, I'll use a meditation cushion to sit on.

I tend to kneel when I'm casting the circle for various portions of the ritual, and then sit cross legged on the floor before my alter. Course now I have to put a pillow between the hard floor and my boney butt, but that's ok. :geez:

As to prayers, I usually say whatever pops into my head. I think that the Lady and Lord know why I'm there anyway, so words are just an affirmation for me. :)

I stand most of the time, gaze into a candle, and sing. This puts me into a trance. Full moon and new moon rituals are spent clearing the energies from the house and this is done walking clockwise around each room.

Sometimes I rock. The rocking is a good sign that you found a way to raise your energy. Thanks for your description. Your ritual sounds lovely.

I usally start out standing, kneel, then sit, then stand to close. Yep, just depends on where I am and what I'm doing:) I also use nothing more than an outline or guide for my spells... then kinda wing the rest. But then I've done it for a long time ... some people need more structure, and that's ok too:hahugh:

I usually dance. It's not what I intend to happen, but that's what I end up doing most of the time. Sometimes, I wrap myself up in my cloak and sit or kneel on the foor. Once in a while, I find myself wanting to be in the rocking chair.

I sit due to lack of ritual space.. Kneel when I'm *really thankful* during prayer.. And I only stand when doing a clensing of house or something that requires me to move about.

I usually sit crossed legged or kneel before my altar. Sometimes I stand but my altar is too low to the floor to do that comfortably.

I sometimes do the rocking thing too. I like to hold my beach stones in my hands when I invoke the Goddess and such. :)
