If I get involved with a hearth, will I be some sort of weird misfit if I still hold onto other ancestral gods/spirits?
Namely the Celtic and Cherokee pantheons.

Hmm... very good question... to be Tru to your Ancestors, I think you must be Tru to ALL of them... you should honor & be respectful of all your Ancestors, HOWEVER I think you should choose which Path you're going to follow, and then follow just one, honoring those Gods & Ancestors first & foremost...

I hope that made sense...

so foremost they want you to understand where your roots lie, in what tribe or civilization. then they want you to learn the gods of your ancestors. And if they happen to be Norse or Germanic, then to be tru you will want to talk to them and find out which one you relate to best. Then just like a friend you tell your troubles to and your hopes and wishes, that is how they want to relate to you. and in return, they will give you wise counsel and friendship.

Thanks. I do feel drawn to explore my Germanic heritage, but I couldn't give up the relationship I've built Brighid and Grandmother Spider(NOT a goddess, but definately a guide).
Thanks again for all you good advice to all my questions.

Now like what Heathenwolf stated: "then they want you to learn the gods of your ancestors. " That cannot always be trimmed down to one pantheon since a lot of us (like me) have both Germanic & Celtic in our blood so then you enter a new terretory where you wouldn't have to give up Brigid.

I'm a bit late in responding to this particular thread but I can be a slow thinker.

As a recon of any type in the modern times we face a very clear challenge of being of mixed heritage. Most of us can only track our ancestry so far and even those answers may not be definitive. By example, one side of my family came into America from Ireland and that is as far as the records go. However, the area of Ireland where they originated was known to be heavily populated by Franks who settled there from Germany. And the Franks, though Germanic were known as a people that settled and merged with other cultures they encountered, including Gauls. So, who knows!

But I digress. My suggestion is to honor all of your ancestry, guides, land spirits etc. as often as you can without concern for being unfaithful to any specific pantheon. In most Indo-European pagan cultures, examples have been found of tribes or even families worshipping a hearth god or goddess, while the larger village, nation, etc worshipped differently. You may not want to mix-and-match in the same ritual where obvious conflicts may exist just out of politeness.

My gut feeling is, if you did a hammer blessing during a rite for Brighid she would be just as honored knowing what it means to you as she would if you recited a poem in Old Irish. When in doubt, keep your heart open and let the feelings guide you as to what may be right or wrong.

Peoples paths change as they grow. I believe that you can get involved with a hearth, and still pay homage to your gods. My patron god is THOR, and my matron godess is Cerridwen. I don't have any celtic in me, but she is who I feel the strongest connection to among the godesses.
