I have an interest in Numerology (amongst many other things!), and wondered if there was anyone else out there interested, or who would like to find out more.

Silverwitch...I am interested in all forms of divination. But, I have no knowledge of numerolgy at all. I know what it is, but not how to use it or how it works. The runes are my forte. Any help in learning more would be greatly appreciated. So...now the perverbial ball is in your court. Thanks!

Thanks Ellegon. Will wait a little - just to make sure I'm not treading on anyone's toes. If there's no problem, I'll write some of the basic principles etc, to give you an idea.
PS I enjoy the runes as well, but they are not a speciality of mine, although I have a working knowledge.
Get back to you soon

Well! ;):D;)
(sorry Silverwitch! this is going to get off topic for a second-but only a second! :D
I came back because I thought of something I wanted to ask you Ellegon...you said that runes are your forte, and I wondered if it's just runes. I was wondering afterwards if you have read about/know about Asatru? Because if you have or do that would be great! If you don't then no biggie! :) I too have a connection with the runes and in your words I guess it would be my "forte" too, but I am also searching for the beliefs that they belong to. I have found lots of info thanks to everyone here but having someone to talk to about it would be great..... well, your turn!

OK Folks, Thanks for your interest! Here we go.
Numerology - the study of numbers and their meanings - an ancient science that is a numerical analysis of your life, and others. Numbers can speak, and are very powerful symbols, and as symbols are the universal language of the unconcious mind, anything we can learn about symbols helps us to connect and understand the subconcious.
As an excersise on the importance of numbers, try living one day of your life without using them!
If you think about it, nothing in your home could have been conceived without numbers. Try as you may, you will be unable to find any item around you that has not relied upon the Law of Numbers. Your home could not have been designed, or even built without numbers. Without numbers, there would be no music, nor would your children be able to be educated. You could not be treated in hospital without numbers for the medical profession relies heavily upon them. We judge an individual's maturity by their age and their level of affluence by numbers. Imagine a ritual without numbers! You could not vote, governments could not govern and wars could not happen - such is the power of numbers!!
The Egyptians, Chinese, Hebrews, Indians, Sumerians,
Chaldeans, and Phoenicians were all responsible for the furtherment of numbers, and the concepts of Numerology have been studied and upheld by some of the world's greatest philosophers and mathematicians. It is generally felt that Pythagoras (a brilliant mathematician and profound philosopher) formulated Numerology as we know it today. He believed that the universe existed upon numbers and that nothing could exist without numbers, and he used his profound logic to take mathematics one step further and deduced that if numbers provided the basis of the universe, then numbers must also provide the basis for life.
Numerology can be used as an addition to other forms of divination to enhance them, particularly Tarot, Astrology and even Runes, even though it is a complete science in itself.
So, from the basic background theory, we'll go on to a little practical! There are no end of permutations which make up Numerology, and a complete Natal Chart can be compiled as with Astrology. Again, like most esoteric arts, its basics are incredibly simple - and then tends to become more complicated, the deeper you look into it! However, most authorities agree that the *Life Path Number * is the most important number for the individual and compares to your sun sign in that it puts you into one of the Twelve Characters of Numerology.
So for the first step, I would like you to compile your *Life Path Number*, and in order to do that, you take your birthdate and reduce it to a single number. As an example we will take the birthdate 28 October 1950.
a) Add all the digits of the birth date together INDIVIDUALLY
ie 2+8+1+0+1+9+5+0 = 26
b)Add the remaining two digits together to form a single number
ie 2+ 6 = 8
Therefore the *Life Path Number* for this individual is 8.
Occasionally, you may need to reduce again for some birth dates, eg 9 September 1974.
a)Add all the digits of the birth date together
ie 9 +9+1+9+7+4 = 39
b)Add the remaining two digits together to reduce
3+9 = 12
c) Add the remaining two digits together to reduce to a single number
1+2 = 3
Therefore this persons *Life Path Number* is 3.
Ok for anyone who wants to participate, work out your *Life Path Number*, and when you've figured it out, get back to me and we will go on to Lesson II - What your *Life Path Number* says about you!! Enjoy and have fun!! :bigredgri

For you two quickies, I'lll give you a little preview of Lesson II.
NB: There are not such things as "good" or "bad" numbers. All have the balance of positive and negative traits. Also, this is a simple overview, other numbers that will go to make up your natal chart will change, moderate and alter the picture.
*Life Path Number Four*
Positive: Trustworthy, Practical, Dignified, Tenacious
Negative: Dogmatic, Narrow-minded, Repressive.
'Fours'are known as The Builders.
*Life Path Number Six*
Positive : Responsible, Conscientious, Humane, Loving, Unselfish, Tolerant
Negative: Nervous, Cautious, Jelous, Narrow-minded, Pessimistic, Interfering.
'Sixes' are known as The Teachers
OK Lesson II will start in ernest, when I've had some sleep!!! :bigredgri

Hi Mythril, Glad you could join in. At present, I'm not bringing in the 'Master Numbers' (bet that's got you all intrigued!), as we are currently dealing with the basic Fadic Numbers. May well bring the 'Masters' in a little later on, if everyone is still keen, and wants to go further!

ok, thanks silverwitch.
Good idea to leave them out for now.
I have read alot about numerology but why is there only 9 numbers excluding master numbers.
why not 13 or more?

Good point Mythril, The reason for there only being 9 numbers, is that once you get past 9, under Fadic Addition (ie taking the number to its lowest form), all numbers can be brought down to a single number, ie 11 = 1+ 1 = 2, 12=1+2=3 and so on.
The other reason is a bit more airy fairy, and not so much a reason as a theory. In some forms of Magick, there are said to be 9, worlds that we have to evolve through, and these equate to each one of the 9 numbers, there are also 9 Seripoths on the Cabbalistic Tree, excluding the physical. Again, these are said to be states of awareness that we need to go through before we reach the God/Goddess Head. Also like the Cabbala (and this is sometimes applied to Astrology as well), once we've been through all the states (1 -9), we start again! Not to sure, or happy about that one! How ever much you can go along with these therories or not, the first reason certainly stands up.

Hi Skysteed, good to hear from you. We are now up to Numerology Lesson V, but if you go into 'Divination', you'll find lessons 2,3 and 4, which will give you more info on what to do with your number, and what it represents. See you there :bigredgri

I have been studying and using numerology for a little over a year now. I am fascinated by it. :)
it goes so much deeper than just your birthday or name calculated. from your house number, to your numerology name chart.
.. funny, cuz I flunked outta math! ;)
