We got a call from my sister n law last night that my husbands step father Ron died on Friday. Although my mother n law is on her 3rd marriage Ron was her 2nd husband and was the main father figure in my husbands life from ages 5-20. So although he was now the ex step father my husband said Ron would aways still be his step father. He was a very good step father I've been told, I've only met him a few times, very nice man. My husbands half brother Jared (age 20), was Ron and my mother n laws son they had together is the one who found him Friday night gone in his recliner. Jared lived with his father so now has to move in with his mother.
Rons only other known living relative, his sister, was off doing missionary or Red Cross work in Israel so we think she is already on her way back to the US. We think Ron knew he was dying and called her Friday because Jared was at work.
Ron was in his 50's & had some health problems so it really isn't that big a suprise but still to soon for anyone to pass away. My husband (Adam) is pretty torn up about it and so we are going to be going to San Diego within a week I guess to go to the funeral. We don't have the money to fly so it'll be a 2 day drive each way for the 4 of us. How do you take little kids to a funeral, neither of us have even been to a funeral in like 15 yrs. I have to tell work today and see what they say about me being gone for a week or more.
And those of you who know of the now 2 yr fight between my mother n law & I....well we'll see how this visit turns out and how I'm going to be treated by her. I'm told she's broken over the death. As for me I plan on just doing what I can for the family and being there for my husband, that's all that matters.

In the middle of typing this my husband just called and says his 1st sergeant is lending us his portable dvd player so the girls can watch their movies in the car and someone at work that lives near us volunteered to take our siberian huskey till we get back.
