I have this Angel tree topper that my mother gave me a few years ago and every time I look at it I see Freya in it. Now it's supposed to be an angel but I was wondering if I removed the wings if I could use it on my altar or somewhere to represent Freya.
It's one of those thats made out of paper bag material. Mine looks like this one except she's a brunette with her hair pulled back, and her wings are hard and actually have the feathers detailed on them. Mine also isn't so ruffly and has more gold on the dress.
Edit: See post #20 for update & more pictures.

i don't see why not, if you always see Freya in her anyway.
why would you take her wings off? remember, Freya had a falcon-feather cloak that She could wear to shapeshift. maybe there is a reason you are seeing Her in a winged image.

As long as it has that meaning to you, that is what is important, wings or no wings. It is the meaning that you give it, not what someone else thinks of it, you give it the power to be!

True but it still really makes her look like an angel. Hmmm good point, I'll think on that one.
Thanks for the replies on this.

When I look at female angels, I see valkyries. I mean, there aren't any female angels in the Bible, are there? The fact the some Christians like to create female depictions of angels is, in my opinion, an example of the Nordic Folk-Soul trying to manifest itself. Freya is the Queen of Valkyries. I say leave the swan maiden her wings, but give the sheild maiden her sheild.

Thanks you all, I will do. Such a helpful crowd.
And someone who comes to the house and sees her, will think I'm christian till they get to know me.

Of course, it could also be rememberance of the Roman Lars or the Etruscan Vanth.
We encode things the way we want to see them.

Right, but I was responding to this. Maybe I mis-read it, but what I was saying is that maybe some Christians like to create female depictions of angels is an example of the Etrusco/Romana rememberance trying to manifest itself. I mean, I know that this thread is about Freya, but there are other cultures with winged goddesses, spirits, and demons.
That's all~

I have recently been reminded of this thread and when I came back to it I realized I had never posted the picture of my "Freya" that we were talking about so here is one taken today of her on my altar. This pic ended up being dark so I lightened it but I'll try to get a better one soon that shows her off a little better and replace this one with it.
I also recently decided to take this sun & moon Santa that my mother had painted for me & put it on my altar to represent Mundilfari and his children Sol & Mani. Between the two of them on there one would think I just haven't taken down all my xmas decorations. lol

I think it would be cool to hang amber apples with five pointed stars etched into them on the trees topped by Freya.

I would think Idunn would be more appropriate.

I know, I'm not a recon but in my own opinion on this. I think it would be great AND accepted. I have a rather large crystal "Angel" that appears to be flying that sits atop our tree, although we didn't go for the tree thing this year due to obvious reasons she still made an appearance. So I say go for it especially since it was a gift.
